The History of Jason

FROM

JASON QUARTERMAINE

TO

.........JASON MORGAN

(From ABC.com)
In 1991, Jason came home from boarding school and quickly learned to contend with his big half-brother, A.J., by cutting him a lot of slack. A year later, Jason found a kindred spirit in fellow high school junior Karen Wexler, whose mother, Rhonda, was, like A.J., an alcoholic.

So preoccupied with Karen was Jason, in fact, that he completely ignored underclassman Robin Scorpio, who harbored a big crush on him. He had more important things to worry about - like Karen's obvious chemistry with her Kelly's co-worker, Jagger Cates. Even though Karen agreed to go steady with Jason and even though they were crowned the king and queen of the Valentine's Day dance, she couldn't deny her attraction to Jagger, and that very night, she left the dance with him, breaking Jason's heart.

By 1995, Jason had found new love with pert Keesha Ward. On spring break, the couple didn't head to the beach but to Paris, where they admitted that they both were virgins. They didn't come home that way.

A year later, a single event changed the course of Jason's life - and in fact, Jason himself - forever. Intent on stopping A.J. from driving drunk, Jason got into a car with his brother. The accident that followed left Jason with permanent brain damage and no memory whatsoever of his family or of Keesha.

Jason couldn't stand the way people looked at him after the accident, always hoping to see some glint of recognition in his eyes. He pushed both his relatives and Keesha away, went to work for mobster Sonny Corinthos and changed his name to Jason Morgan. His birthday, he would declare, wasn't the day he was born but the day of the accident.

The one person who was able to get through to Jason was his old high school classmate, Robin. She was patient with him and had no expectations. She just accepted him for who he was - not for who he used to be. What began as a friendship turned into a deep and abiding love.

But there was a complication: All the while Jason was falling for Robin, he was sleeping with scheming Carly Roberts. When he ended their affair, she threatened to blab to Robin. But Carly was all talk; she was just hurt that Jason didn't want her.

Because of Robin's HIV-positive status, when she and Jason consummated their love, they had to do so very carefully. Beforehand, they spoke frankly about their fears and their desire, and although their lovemaking may not have been the same as other couples', it was just as intense and certainly more meaningful. Jason and Robin's romance was threatened when Carly's manipulations ripped them apart.

Jason became a father unexpectedly when Carly broke up with Tony and claimed that Jason was the father of her child. Carly claimed that she had been having an affair with Jason and he went along with Carly's lie. Carly told Jason the truth about Bobbie being her mother and her night of passion with AJ and how AJ could be the father of the baby.

After Carly gave birth to her son, Jason took the child into his care when she left town suffering from post-partum depression. Even though Tony's dream of becoming a father came to an end when the paternity test proved that he was not the father of Carly's baby, Tony swore to get even with Jason and Carly.

AJ incorrectly concluded from the test results that Jason was the baby's father. However, that did not stop Edward, Alan, AJ and Tony try to take Carly's baby from Jason when he brought him to the Quartermaine mansion for Emily's birthday. Their plan failed miserably and the family lost both Jason and Michael for good. Justus became disgusted with the Quartermaines and ELQ life and agreed to be Jason's legal counsel.

Jason and Robin were back together and Jason wanted to guarantee that Robin and Michael would always be safe. To that end, Jason met with his rival, Moreno, and announced his resignation from the organization. Jason went to work as a mechanic and he and Robin moved into Brenda's vacant cottage with Michael.

Robin and Jason were very much in love. One day, Jason returned to the garage and was shocked to find AJ there alone with Michael. Jason was furious and couldn't accept the fact that Robin had no choice but to leave Michael with AJ. Jason felt betrayed and a rift developed between him and Robin. Jason and Robin quickly reconciled, but Robin was concerned over Jason's deep attachment to Michael. Robin also continued to worry about what the future would hold once Carly was released from Ferncliff and hated the fact that her and Jason's lives revolved around Carly.

Jason proved to Carly that he could still make things happen even after leaving the organization when he arranged for her release from Ferncliff. Carly moved into the cottage with Jason, Michael and Robin and secretly planned on a future of her own with Jason.

By this time, however, mob violence was starting to rear its ugly head in Port Charles again and Mac was seriously wounded in a shootout at the Outback. Carly urged Jason to return to the organization, but he remained hesitant to do so.

Robin was thrilled when Sonny returned to Port Charles as she hoped he would be able to help her with Carly, who continued to use Michael to manipulate Jason. Robin reached her breaking point when Jason announced that he was going to move into the brownstone with Carly and Michael in order to solve everyone's problems. Robin was stunned by Jason's "solution" and they broke up. Thinking she was protecting Jason from future pain at the hands of Carly, Robin did the unthinkable. Robin went to AJ and told him the truth - AJ, not Jason, was Michael's biological father. Jason was furious over Robin's betrayal and made it clear he would never forgive her.

AJ shocked the Quartermaines with the news about Michael and battle lines were quickly drawn. Jason assured Carly that no one would take Michael away from him and they prepared to do battle with the Quartermaines.

Jason and Carly planned to leave Port Charles and go on the run with Michael. Jason left town with Michael and Carly planned on joining them later. Carly, however, changed her mind and didn't rendezvous with Jason as planned. Instead, Carly went to the Quartermaine mansion and said that Jason had kidnapped Michael. Carly started spinning a tale of lies and was able to convince the Quartermaines that she was on their side. Carly even moved into the mansion!

Sonny was furious over what Carly had done to Jason and he told Jason about Carly's betrayal. Sonny was then incredulous when Jason defended Carly and decided to return to Port Charles with Michael. Alone with Jason, Carly explained herself and told Jason of her latest plan. Carly planned on winning AJ over to her side and then marrying him. Carly explained that she would then divorce AJ and return to Jason with Michael. Jason didn't think Carly's plan would work, but he went along with it anyway. Alexis agreed to represent Jason in his custody battle against the Quartermaines.

Sonny and Jason were devastated to learn that their coffee warehouse had burned to the ground and they suspected Moreno was behind the fire. Jason then received even more bad news when he was forced to take Michael to the Quartermaine mansion to live. Jason also lost visitation rights to Michael.

After teaming up to prove that Hannah Scott was actually an undercover agent for the FBI, Jason and Carly grew closer while watching the FBI raid Moreno's warehouse. Soon thereafter, Jason and Carly shared a kiss and Carly was certain she and Jason could have a future together. A short time later, Carly misinterpreted a close moment between Jason and Liz. Carly turned to Sonny and their mutual pain and anger lead to an outburst of passion and they made love. At this same time, Jason filled in for Sonny at a meeting with Moreno and ended up getting shot.

After being shot by Moreno, Jason returned to Sonny's penthouse and was stunned to discover that Carly and Sonny had slept together. Jason turned his back on Sonny and Carly and collapsed outside in the snow. Liz came to Jason's aid and took him to her studio. Jason refused to let Liz contact either the police or Sonny, but Liz took matters into her own hands and arranged for Bobbie to treat Jason's wound. Liz convinced Jason to stay at her studio with her and he eventually made a full recovery. In the process, Liz and Jason became very close friends.

Carly was devastated by Jason's rejection, but was determined to make him love her again. Carly was also determined to keep custody of Michael and end her marriage to AJ, but AJ made it clear that neither Carly nor Michael would be going anywhere. Fearing for her safety, Jason distanced himself from Liz. A short time later, Jason said goodbye to Sonny, Emily, Monica and Lila and headed out of town.

Although Jason didn't return to Port Charles, he did come to Carly's rescue once again. Jason phoned Sonny and told him that AJ had been responsible for hiring an arsonist to burn down their coffee warehouse. Armed with this information, Sonny forced AJ to relinquish all rights to Michael and give Carly a divorce.

Several months later, Jason returned to Port Charles.

Jason offered Sonny an alternative to marrying Carly and said he would take her and Michael out of the country. Jason admitted to Sonny that he only loved Carly as a friend, but said he would do whatever Sonny wanted. Carly, who truly did have feelings for Sonny, realized she couldn't run away with Jason. Carly then agreed to marry Sonny, who promised they would try to make a happy home together. The Justice of the Peace arrived at Sonny's penthouse, but Carly got a case of cold feet. Jason spoke to Carly but Sonny misinterpreted their conversation and thought Carly still loved Jason. Carly and Sonny were then married as planned and Sonny was thrown when Jason explained that Sonny was the man Carly loved.

During this same time, Emily had been kidnapped by Zander but she soon realized he was just another one of Sorel's victims and went from being his hostage to being his friend. Jason and Lucky tracked Emily and Zander down and were prepared to rescue Emily and turn Zander over to the cops. Jason and Lucky were then shocked when Emily begged them to let Zander escape. Jason and Lucky did as Emily asked and Zander took off for Canada. Jason brought Emily home, much to the delight of the Quartermaines.

Jason then left Port Charles again but returned in January 2001 when he learned that Sorel and Carlos had joined forces to eliminate Sonny permanently. Liz was thrilled to see Jason back in town and he asked if he could hide out at her studio as he needed to keep his return a secret. Jason also told Liz that she couldn't tell Lucky that he was back in town. Liz was torn about lying to Lucky, but agreed to help Jason and keep his secret.

When Elizabeth was forced to choose between Lucky and Jason, she chose to be with Lucky. Jason soon left town again to hide out from mobster Sorel.

When Jason came back to Port Charles he was given an order by Sonny to watch over his half sister Courtney Matthews. Courtney was married to AJ and working as a stripper to pay back damage AJ had done to the club. Courtney found herself being stalked and Jason promised to protect her.

Courtney and Jason found themselves closer than ever when it was discovered that AJ was Courtney's stalker.Courtney and Jason could not deny that they were falling in love. But they would not tell Sonny because they knew he would not approve. Meanwhile Jason was also protecting Brenda Barrett who was a suspect in the murder of Luis Alcazar. Jason soon married Brenda to keep them from being forced to testify against each other. Eventually Brenda and Jason annulled their marriage, allowing Courtney and Jason to get engaged.

When Sonny found out Jason and Courtney were involved in a relationship, he was less than thrilled for his sister to be marrying into the mob life. Finally Sonny was forced to accept their relationship and Jason and Courtney went ahead and planned for their wedding. But their wedding was unable to avoid problems. A pregnant Carly was kidnapped before the ceremony causing the wedding to be postponed while they all searched for Carly. It turned out that Ric Lansing had taken Carly hoping to steal her baby when it was born. Sonny and Carly's son Michael told Jason he saw Ric take Carly. But before they could rescue Carly, she was kidnapped again by Lorenzo Alcazar.

Jason, Sonny, and Ric went to South America to rescue Carly. Right before Jason left to go, Courtney found out she was pregnant. But she didn't want to tell him because he had already expressed his doubt about bringing a child into such a dangerous life.

Unbeknownst to Jason, Courtney decided to follow them down to South America to help them rescue Carly. But she got herself into trouble when Alcazar found her on his ship and demanded Sonny and Jason trade her for Carly. Courtney decided to take matters into her own hands and jumped over board to escape Alcazar. When she got to land safely, she was told she had lost her baby. When she and Jason got back to Port Charles, he saw that something was bothering her. She finally confessed she had been pregnant and had not told him. Feeling guilty with nowhere else to turn, she sought comfort in pain killers. While Courtney was under the influence of drugs, she ran down Elizabeth Webber with her car. At first she did not remember the incident, but eventually it came back to her and Jason convinced her to turn herself in.

Jason and Courtney found their way to each other and exchanged vows in France with Carly and Sonny by their side. But it was not soon after Carly was accidentally shot by Sonny that Courtney realized the extent of danger she would be forced to deal with by being married to Jason. To keep the children safe while Carly was recovering, Courtney took Michael and Morgan to live in the country for awhile. There they met Brian, a policeman who helped them adjust to staying in the country. Jason was suspicious of Brian and did not trust his motives with Courtney especially when he took a job at the Port Charles Police Department.

Carly's feelings for Alcazar grew after she came out of her coma. When she checked herself into a mental hospital, she stabbed Jason with a hallucinogenic drug that she had been administered. Still under the influence of the drug, he found himself at Courtney's loft where his true feelings came out. Unfortunately for Courtney, when he came out of the drug, he didn't remember any of it.

Courtney shot Brian when he and Jason got into a gunfight. Courtney wanted to turn herself in, but Jason insisted on keeping it a secret.

During the Port Charles Hotel fire, Courtney and Jason shared a romantic moment, but it was short lived when they survived and Jason was arrested for Brian's shooting. He was handcuffed to a railing, and left to die until Nikolas found him. Jason felt betrayed by Courtney when she purchased property on the docks with money she inherited and would not allow Jason and Sonny to use it for illegal activity. Their relationship got worse when Courtney knocked Jason unconscious to keep him from killing Alcazar. They finalized their divorce.

When Jason found out Sam McCall was pregnant with Sonny's child, he offered to claim the child as his own to protect Sonny and his family. In the beginning of her pregnancy, Jason talked Sam out of having an abortion. He promised her he would raise that child as it's own. What he didn't count on was developing real feelings for Sam, his best friend's mistress.

Unfortunately Sam's pregnancy ended unexpectedly, but her unborn baby saved another one of Sonny's children, Kristina. Kristina was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and Sam's child was the only donor match. Her stem cells saved Kristina.

As Sam dealt with the loss of her child, she became closer to Jason. He asked her several times to move in with him and when she did their relationship grew stronger. Soon after, Sam and Jason became foster parents of sorts by agreeing to care for a baby that Bridget, one of Courtney's foundation kids, gave them. Jason wasn't convinced it was a good idea, but supported Sam when he realized how much having the baby meant to her. As their romance flourished, Jason proposed marriage to Sam, and she happily accepted. Their happiness was short lived due to Bridget asking for her baby back. Sam tearfully returned the child, and was initially unable to forgive Jason for telling her to do so.

Jason and Sam were able to work out their issues, and teamed up to find Sonny's children after they were kidnapped. Their investigation took them to Louisiana where after a shootout with Faith (Sonny & Jason's longtime rival) they found Kristina and Morgan. Michael was still missing, but before they can get any information from Faith she's killed. Sonny and Jason tracked down the sniper responsible for killing her, and Jason discovered a Polaroid of a deceased Michael.

Jason refused to believe that Michael was really dead. He continued to search for clues and with the help of Sam, he figured out that Michael was indeed alive. As it turned out, Michael had been kidnapped by AJ who all of Port Charles thought was dead. AJ and Michael secretly returned to town, and Jason confronted him at the Quartermaine mansion. The confrontation turned into a violent fight that sent them both over the staircase railings at the Quartermaine estate. AJ was taken to the hospital where he ended up being suffocated. Sonny and Jason were shocked when Michael explained that he was responsible for killing AJ. In order to protect his son, Sonny claimed that he killed AJ, but was ultimately found not guilty.

Michael continued to have emotional problems after the kidnapping trauma. In an effort to help him, Jason and Sam decided to place him in therapy sessions with a Dr. Thomas. Sam was surprised to hear that Dr. Thomas had also been Jason's doctor after his near fatal accident years ago. Due to AJ's murder, the police were ready to take Michael away from his family, so Sam and Jason ended up leaving Port Charles with him. Things with Michael got worse when Jason realized that Michael's close friend Jody was only a figment of his imagination. Sonny realized that Michael needed to come home to seek the appropriate help.

Jason soon remembered that years ago when he was in a coma, AJ had enlisted Dr. Thomas to let Jason die. When AJ had threatened to blackmail Dr. Thomas with the attempted murder, he retaliated by killing AJ. This meant that Michael was not in fact responsible for AJ's death. Jason wasted no time in going after Dr. Thomas. Meanwhile, Dr. Thomas landed at the Quartermaine's estate and held Alan & Monica hostage. Jason shot and killed him, and the nightmare of AJ's murder was finally over.

After Jason was cleared of the shooting, Sonny surprised Sam and Jason with a vacation and sent them away on his yacht. The boat was then stormed by phony police, and Jason & Sam were brought to an island. Jason was taken to the dungeon while Sam met the hostess: Allegra. Allegra needed Sam to impersonate her recently deceased daughter and marry the wealthy fiancé so that Allegra would return to the financial lifestyle she was accustomed to. Sam had to learn to dance while Jason was digging through the dungeon wall to escape only to find Alicia, a dead ringer for Sam and Allegra's supposedly dead daughter. After a failed escape attempt, Sam agreed to play along to save herself and Jason. Eventually Sam and Jason escaped, but all the while Jason struggled with life threatening headaches and seizures. Soon enough Jason had no memory of who he was or his life in Port Charles.

Jason quit working for Sonny and accepted the fact that he was poised to die. Although he didn't remember Sam, it didn't take him long to fall back in love with her. Jason's condition proved fatal, but he refused to seek treatment. During this time, crazed psycho Manny Ruiz was on the prowl for Sam. Jason knew that if he was bedridden in a hospital, he'd never be able to protect Sam from Manny. Sam was determined to save Jason's life, and learned that Robin was the only person that could make Jason healthy again. Robin had since become a doctor and was living in Paris. While there, she had developed an experimental treatment for those who suffered from the same disorder as Jason. Sam tracked Robin down and begged her to return to Port Charles. Sam and Robin met in New York, and Robin agreed to help Jason. Unfortunately, their plans were stalled when they were both victims of the Port Charles train crash. Jason, who was still fighting fatal headaches, escaped the hospital to get to the crash site. Jason went through the Glencoe tunnel to get to his loved ones, but was trapped after a cave in. Jason eventually tracked down Sam and Robin, and the two women were rescued. Jason ended up staying in the tunnel to save Carly's life, and after an explosion Sam believed he was dead. She was overcome with relief when Jason finally found an escape route and returned to her.

After an emotional plea, Sam convinced Jason to undergo treatment for his condition. Unfortunately, Robin's treatment helped Jason recover his memory, but did not cure his disorder. Robin ended up tracking down renowned surgeon Patrick Drake, and Jason's surgery was a success. After he survived, Jason credited Sam for saving his life. The tables turned for Jason and Sam when the Encephalitis virus hit Port Charles. Sam became incredibly ill, and Jason was not about to let her die. He and Carly decided to investigate the illness and ended up tracking down an antidote in the Maarkam Islands. After a series of missteps, they were finally able to bring enough antidote to General Hospital to save those still infected with the virus.

Unfortunately, Jason did not make it in time to save the life of his ex-wife, Courtney Matthews or Sam's brother, Danny McCall. After Danny's death, Sam discovered that she and her brother had no biological relation. Sam was convinced she was adopted and Jason helped her investigate the truth about her past. Sam and Jason were stunned to learn that their longtime enemy, Alexis Davis, was in fact Sam's mom. Jason remained supportive of Sam, but both decided it was for the best to keep Alexis in the dark. Meanwhile, Jason was furious to learn that Sonny and Emily had developed a relationship. He made it clear to them that he objected to their romance, and gave Sonny an ultimatum. Sonny decided to steer clear of Emily, but the threat of the virus brought them closer together and they were unable to stay away from each other. Both agreed to keep their relationship hidden from Jason until he calmed down. When Jason discovered that Sonny and Emily had been lying to him about their romance he was both hurt and angry. The couple was unable to keep up their façade once Jason saved them from getting killed by a hit man during an intimate moment. Jason is more certain than ever that Sonny will only put Emily in danger, and continues to warn them that their relationship is doomed.
