Amor Fati

"Amor Fati, Love your Fate. From past episodes Mulder has stated he didn't believe in fate. Though I suppose even if you don't believe in fate you can feel trapped by it. As Mulder did. As far as an arc closer goes, it didn't close up very much, a lot of the strands that were elaborated on in first part of "The Sixth Extinction" were completely dropped, such as the whole Africa plot...what ever did happen to that man who came back to life? Is he just out there wandering around? I suppose now that Krycek has all the information on Mulder's little disease now, wonder what he'll do with it. Hopefully it'll make him come back in an episode where he can do more than toss off a wig and close a door. One last problem, Mulder had the cure...now the CSM has it...why? Why couldn't Mulder be the carrier? And is the CSM clairvoyent now? I guess that will be answered late, but these were the reasons it wasn't strong plot-wise. On the other hand, the dream sequences with the little but and space craft and the comparison of Mulder to Christ was intriguing. The imagery of the boy representing Mulder's life long quest was profound I thought. The constant building of the space craft could be mental image for anyone. It was nice, considering the end of X-Files is coming, to show the last shot of Mulder continually builidng the space ship. A nice bit of continuity for the show. The Mulder/Christ theme was also interesting. There have been so many times when it seemed as if the world did revolve around Mulder, or at least his quest, it was like a cold shower for the CSM to say it all didn't matter. The Mulder dream sequence was obviously referring to the temptation of Christ by the devil. Interesting, Men of the world are tempted by simpler things...I wouldn't have thought that after "Dreamland." And finally, the end hall scene between Mulder and Scully. We all knew it, but they've never said it before. It was great to hear them renew their faith in each other...when the X-Files world does start falling apart it'll be nice to know that Mulder and Scully are each others rocks, and ours also, in the unstable landslide that X-Files has become."

"Hodgepodge Mulder mental mess has the hokey plot charm of a wacky Japanese anime. Entertaining in a chop soky kung fu Godzilla vs. Cigarette Smoking Man way.. this episode uses Mulder's mental wok visualization to stir fry up some kooky people that we haven't tossed our eye's on in an awhile, like Deep Throat and Mulder's sister. Cigarette Smoking Man does his best "Darth Vader" intoning "I'm your father" but it doesn't matter that the X-Files rips off Star Wars because the X-Files is basically a rip off of many other things, the character of Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs as the basis for Scully already a mainstay in the show's ten ingredients special rice. This episode was full of things that were supposed to be jarring, but at times approached the comical in a kind of hallucinogenic seesaw. I hope that's what the shows director was going for. Mulder looked as if he were hit in the face with baby powder when he was supposed to look old. Kind of silly, but I guess the make-up man could justify it by saying it was just a mental picture of what he would look like. There was a bombastic scene where alien ships bomb a burned out future that caused me to explode with glee and that I hope is a foreshadowing fortune cookie of things to come in the show's mythology."

"I'd give it an '11' if I could!! I'm very impressed, and I don't think I've seen an episode that good in a long time, possibly years. A very risky episode that was pulled off brilliantly. I loved the role that Scully played in the episode, as well as Mulder's all-too-real dream sequences. The ending dropped my jaw and left me absolutely breathless. That is until I started screaming. Excellent episode, I hope to see many, many more this good through the season."

"I give this one an '8' because the ending ended up being very good, and the episode was able to drastically turn around my opinion of Diana Fowley, something I thought could not be accomplished. It was very successful in that. Diana ended up doing something good and worthwhile."
-Anne M.-

"Chris Carter is playing with us again re: that long loving kiss to Mulder's forehead. Otherwise he really pulled out all the stopps--alien writing, comatose Indians, dead people, a jovial CSM!"
-Kathy K.-

"This is a '6,' a tad better than the last, but the next looks good. I want it to get into the government cover up of Mulder's sister and aliens and such again."
-Eric R.-

"I loved this episode! I don't know about ya'll, but I'm glad Mulder is back."
