Conduit

"This episode was a great way to begin expanding the mythology aspect of the X-Files."

-Christina O.-

Originally airing on October 1, 1993, the episode "Conduit" is the third episode of the first season.

In Sioux City, Iowa, Mulder's feelings for his abducted sister are reawakened when he learns of a teenage girl who has apparently been abducted as well. He and Scully check out the story of the girl's mother, Darlene Morris, who as an abductee herselft but is reluctant to talk about the incident. At the end of the episode, Scully does her best to account for everything scientifically (like usual), but she is confronted with information that has no rational explaination.

"'Conduit' was a great episode. After the pilot, this episode was a great way to begin expanding the mythology aspect of the X-Files by giving more depth to Samantha's abduction. It also gave David a chance to really get into character, which he did beautifully. I have to say, Mark Snow did an excellent job in this episode. The music at the very while Scully is listening to Mulder's hypnotic regression tapes is very emotional and gave a lot of support to the dialoge being given. I gave this a nine due to the fact that there were a few moments that were boring, but overall, it was an excellent episode in which we got to hear a phrase that has become very popular among X-Philes: 'I want to believe.'"
