"'Fallen Angel' is the first X-File episode that I ever saw. This
one got me hooked. I was sitting alone in a hotel room, sick, in
Australia, while the parents were out at dinner, and I watched it. Rain
pouring down outside, freezing cold, lights out. Scared silly. It was
great!!
I don't know about you, but I thought Mulder dressed all in black --
black jeans, black T-shirt, black leather jacket. Sigh.
Well, I thought for a first season episode, he looked surprisingly good. The
hair wasn't bad, actually!! But Scully's...eeewww... Get her to
a hair salon, quick!! I'm sorry, but I really don't like her hair in the
first 2 seasons.
I liked the scene when Scully came to "bail out" Mulder from that cage
thing at the crash site. She sort of came in, sillouetted against the
light coming through the door, hands on hips.... "I am woman, hear me
ROAR!" You go, girl! And then she got stuck into Mulder.... "What do you
think you were doing?... Blah blah blah... Bad boy, Mulder, bad
boy!!"
This has been mentioned in other books, but I just thought I'd say it
again, as my Mom picked up on it when she watched it with me. You know
when Mulder and Scully go to the hospital and ask the Dr. a bunch of
questions? Well, he said that the men came in with 5th and 6th
degree burns... but... 4th degree burns are right to the bone. So how
much worse could you get? My mom is a nurse, so she picked up on it
quickly...
Reading glasses!! Alert! Alert! I thought that Mulder in that marron
color shirt and reading glasses in the hotel room was...just about as
good as him in black.
I also liked the scene with Max seizing in his trailer, and Mulder just
holding him until he had clamed down... No, seriously, I think they did
that scene well. The guy who played Max was good. A good actor, I mean.
Pity he had to die... (In "Max") And David did a good job trying to hold
Max....
Did anyone else pick up on the blooper that Max's scar was behind his
right ear, and Mulder told Scully it was behind his left? Just me
thoughts...
When Max's ear started to bleed, a LOT of blood came out. And then, when
Mulder and Scully came to his trailer, there was only a small amount of
blood on his pillow. Just a little dot. Nothing like what was happening
with his ear earlier...
'Enigmatic Dr. Scully.'"

"'Fallen Angel' was a superb episode which introduced the memorable character of Max Fenig, who would later be brought back in 'Tempus Fugit' and 'Max.' The seizure that Max has during this episode is very believable, and helped make the episode more enjoyable. Besides having wonderful music by Mark Snow, 'Fallen Angel' also coined two more memorable phrases in the X-Files: 'Not one, no government agency has jurisdiction over the truth' and 'Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.' This episode was beautifully written and acted, it had a great musical score, and it had a chilling plot, which is all that and X-File ever needs to be marvelous."
