"All right, let me just get this out of the way right now. I've done my best not to read other people's reviews of the movie and hear others' opinions because I wanted this to be my true evaluation of the movie and not anyone elses. So, if you don't agree with me I apologize but this is what I thought about it. I just wanted to get that out of the way. Well, I've seen the movie twice. Yes, twice in one day. Once at 1:20 and another at 10:30, both pm showings. The crowd laughed during the previews, but as soon as the FOX music came on the crowd was silent. Then, the six opening notes of the X-Files theme that had come to be loved by all those who watch the show, and even those who don't, came on. The crowd cheered, myself included. My friends poked me. I was stiff with anticipation. 'The X-Files' popped up on the screen. We clapped, mostly out of excitement. This was it. The day had arrived. What we had been waiting for during the past, well, year, was about to happen now. It started out in early times in North Texas. You could tell it was early because it was covered with snow. I don't know, you'll have to check with some experts to see if that was what it was like, but it was the ice age, so I'll go along with it. The two cavemen travelers wander into a cave for no reason whatsoever. In my opinion, these two travelers may have been Mulder's and Scully's past lives. I mean, they had the flares instead of flashlights and they had a knack for going into dark places. Anyway, this thing attacks one of the people and kills him, but the other one kills the thing. Kinda gross, but I expected this. For PG-13 we better get some gore! As the story goes on the prehistoric man gets taken over by the black oil...eerie, but we'll go along with it. Then, we come back to present day Texas where four hickville kids are digging outside of their small community for no reason whatsoever. Well, we need scary stuff, so we'll take it. Anyway, the boy falls down into a hole. By this time I was figiting. Ok, so where were Mulder and Scully? Maybe down in that hole. Ok, so the kid gets taken over by the black oil. By this time I started thinking that maybe Krycek would be in the movie. I mean, he was one of the original people on the show to be taken over by the black oil. Again, why not? So, in comes the conspiracy. A person we've never met comes and gets his men to get the boy and the firemen. The crowd cheers for Mulder and Scully when they come on a week later in Dallas. Ah, its going to get good now. So we thought. There are a few cute jokes. Thank you, Chris Carter, for the jokes because they were needed. The humor was very effective. My friend put it best when she said "Mulder's sense of humor is so bad that you have to laugh at it." I agree. The show proves that it has a sense of humor...including letting Mulder get drunk and having him urinate on an 'Independence Day' poster. Well, having Mulder say 'shit' was an interesting change. Somehow it just seemed natural for him to curse (although we know Duchovny must have enjoyed it). The movie had its creepy moments, like when that man was down with the mutated virus and the entity attacked him. Or, hey, when the bees came out of nowhere when Mulder and Scully were in that venting system. Great special effects, anyway. Its obvious that Carter and everyone else took advantage of it. Also, great directing job by Rob Bowman. Thumbs up to him. He did a great job. As you can tell, I'm leaving my evaluation of Duchovny and Anderson till the end. Ok, so there are colonists that are going to come soon and the syndicate is upset because they've discovered that the colonists' virus (the black oil, we assume) can gestate inside human beings to form new entities, and this is all good, but what was all that sealing stuff in 'Patient X'/'The Red and the Black' and the black cancer in 'Tunguska'/'Terma.' Did it just mutate now? I'm going to guess that because if this had been going on for awhile then Mulder would have been like and egg to one of those lovely aliens. Well...I'm waiting, Mr. Carter. What were those bees that you said you would explain? Were they carrying the black cancer or is it still small pox ('Zero Sum')? Is Mulder really Cancerman's son? You said you were going to explain that, too, or did you just accidently give away an episode for next season? Where the hell were Marita and Krycek? You hinted at them. We know you hinted. "Its all going to hell" as Cancerman said. Gee, who else said that? Krycek! All that stuff Well-Manicured Man said to Mulder in that car was exactly what Krycek told Mulder in 'The Red and the Black!' Those crops and those bees...all continuations of Herrenvolk...what Marita had explained. Do the words 'Zero Sum' mean anything to you? Not that I missed Marita in the least, but I really missed Krycek. The whole movie seemed to hint at him every second but he never showed, although did you catch that rat in the alley in that one scene? Krycek, of course! (just wanted to see if anyone caught that) Well, I'm hoping that ship will be explained next season. Supposedly hinting back to 'Paper Clip?' Could be, I think. Ahhh, the Well-Manicured Man is dead! I really enjoyed that character, though he was a bit of an ass at times. John Neville did a great job of keeping his character mysterious up until the very end. I had been looking forward to learning more about him but oh well, maybe we still will. Anyway, I will miss him. His "my God" lines definetly stuck in your head...like in the movie for example. At least we know he had a family. I thought that was really sweet. I knew it! "Their lips do meet" Carter said. That was vile. Getting stung right before the kiss. That was like a horrible replay of Small Potatoes. Yes, their lips did meet...when Mulder performed CPR on Scully. CPR! I knew it! I knew it was too good to be true! Well, the movie was definetly shippy. It was enough for me, but I hope...maybe in the last ever episode of the series, that we'll get to see a kiss between Mulder and Scully. As Carter said in Inside the X-Files: Scully loves Mulder and Mulder loves Scully. Its a beautiful romance. So, who is this mysterious leader of the syndicate? I'm guessing he's going to be a replacement for the Well-Manicured Man. Well, I hope he can fit in those huge shoes he's going to have to fill. Awww, now poor Krycek won't have anyone to drive around anymore. Anyway, back on this leader of the syndicate. He seems to be an interesting character, and I can't wait to learn more about him in the upcoming season. Upcoming season...it seemed like the movie was one big teaser for season six. Didn't it? The whole thing was like a huge advertisement. Now I can't wait for November! After 'The End' I wasn't as jumpy as I usually am when it comes to waiting for a new season, but now I am. 'Fight the Future' has left so much unanswered and I hope to see at least some of the loose ends tied up. Namely: where the hell do Krycek/Marita/Mulder/CSM/bees/Scully/Spender fit into everything. Oh, and speaking of Spender (otherwise known as Dork Boy) where was he? Wasn't he supposed to be in the movie? Oh, and what about Mimi Rogers' character? I thought the movie was supposed to pick up where last season's The End left off. Well, this is the X-Files. Nothing will ever be explained...at least not yet. I guess one thing that struck me after I watched the movie: It seemed as though Carter made the movie too simple for the X-Files hardcore fans which is understandable because people who had never seen the show would see the movie, and yet he made it a little too confusing for those who had never seen it. Yes, they would understand it, but they wouldn't get some of the inside stuff...like the Lone Gunman, Well-Manicured Man, Scully's cross, Cancerman's involvement, the bees' importance, the black oil...and the list goes on. One of my friends was so confused, and the other one has made me promise her that I'll go with her to explain everything because she doesn't understand the series as it is. Well, I did just mention the Lone Gunman, so lets move to them. Adorable. That part was so cute, and it was great to be in an audience who knew the characters and clapped when they came on. I loved Mulder's reaction to them "Oh God". That was too funny. I was cracking up at that part. Oh, and the "Well, you can strip Byers naked." part was great, too. Now Skinner... very caring. It seemed like Mitch Pileggi tried to make him seem very sweet in this movie...completely caring for his two agents...I don't know what I thought of that. Yes, it was cute, and it was great seeing how much he cares for Mulder and Scully, but he seemed, I don't know, a little too sweet. Too much is too much. Yes, Skinner cares for Mulder and Scully, but he also recognizes that he is their superior and he, well, he has the power. The Skinner I remember would never have let Mulder leave that hospital in Byers' clothes. At least not without a really harsh argument. That part inparticular didn't seem right. So, William B. Davis got paid just to light a cigarette every five seconds. What was all that stuff about "Mulder's seen too much"...? Last season Cancerman seemed to be on Mulder's side...well, until he burned the X-Files, that is. Remember 'Redux'/'Redux II?' Maybe its just because he's just rejoined the Consortium and he doesn't want to risk his life like he did in Redux II. When I first got the soundtrack for the movie my reactions were "what is this crap?" and "oh, so Mark Snow gave into the brass" but after seeing it I realize what he meant by "mood music". The tones in the movie made it all the more suspenseful. Great job, Mark Snow. Ah, and here comes the big topic: David Duchovny's and Gillian Anderson's performaces on screen. Let me just say that I missed the butt shot of Duchovny. Too bad it ended on the cutting room floor. It could be used for 6th season blooper material... Well, lets start with the ever radiant Dana Scully on the big screen. Gillian Anderson was phenomenal. Her acting lit up the screen, and I really enjoyed seeing her in the movie theater. Big screen or small, she's ever lovely. One blunder, and its not even hers, its CC's. Yes, I know Scully's a doctor and that after she got stung she knew she had to tell Mulder her symptoms, but that looked so pathetic on screen. Couldn't help saying "Oooh, Scully's in doctor mode as she's passing out!" Well, back on Anderson. Everyone clapped when she told those receptionists what to do in Dallas. That was definetly a high point. Also, all the little injokes with Mulder..."I saw that face, Mulder. You're buying." Seeing her at the end in that green goop...poor Scully. Even in the movies she's still the one to always be abducted and have to be saved by Mulder. Just for once I'd love to see Mulder abducted. Speaking of that naked shot, though, where was that tattoo from Never Again? Oh well...we must allow for some continuity blunders, I suppose. Now, on to David Duchovny. I loved seeing him drunk. He has a real knack for comedy. All I can say is that he was great in this movie. Fight the Future was packed with wonderful Mulderisms. Well, Mulder got shot...as usual. Some things never change. Scully abducted and Mulder shot. Oh yes. Ok, I'm done. I swear I'm done. I'll make my closing statements now. Duchovny and Anderson...you are beautiful on the big screen, and I hope to see you both there together many times in the future. Rob Bowman's first movie was a success. Chris Carter's script, for the most part, was wonderful. I really enjoyed it. To the Lone Gunman: you're great. Funny as always, even if they were only on for a few minutes. To Skinner...great seeing him on the big screen. Wish there had been more of him. To Cancerman...great seeing you smoking, I guess. To Well-Manicured Man...we'll miss you, and good luck to John Neville wherever he may go. To Mark Snow...great music. Well, Krycek, I know I wasn't the only one that missed you, and we all can't wait to see you next year on the show. Well, Marita and Spender...what can I say? We'll see you next season...but I didn't really miss you guys. Sorry. Why 8 out of 10? I loved it...seriously, I did, but after all the hype and all that Chris Carter said we were going to learn...plus, that kiss...I was disappointed. Someone put it best in a fanfic when they said "and the lights came on in the theater. The people turned to each other in silence, and a glorious cry came from the audience 'THAT'S IT!?'" I can't wait till next season!"
