A murder similar to one in 1947 leads Mulder and Scully to New Jersey, where Mulder want to investigate the legend of the "Jersey Devil," a supposed beast who has been stalking human prey for some time. They learn that the subject of their search is actually a primitive woman, a genetic mutation or throwback to humanity in its previous incarnation.

"'The Jersey Devil' was, to say the least, shippy. Very very shippy. It was great to see Scully go out on a date. The only other date she's had, in my memory, was with Ed Jerse in 'Never Again.' I was very surprised to find that the platonic Chris Carter was the man who wrote this episode. Despite popular opinion, it was, in my opinion, a very well done episode. The whole idea of the Jersey Devil is very scary. This episode obviously showed the relationship between Mulder and Scully being brought to a deeper level. Through this episode definetly didn't show that Mulder and Scully's trust was at the same level that is is now, but it surely showed that they consider each other more than just business partners. Overall, a well executed episode."
