Redux

"In my report of "Gethsemane" I reffered to it as 'a hell of a cliffhanger'. I unfortunetly can't give the same praise to "Redux". While there were many complaints that "Gethsemane" gave away too little information, "Redux" gave away too much. Chris Carter, who is usually able to determine how much of the conspiracy should be unravelled in his episodes, obviously tried to put in too much. "Redux", then, became nothing more than a muddled clutter of information, much of which we don't understand. For example, how did Scully know that lifeform was growing within her? How was she able to find out that it was really Skinner that gave her the cancer? How exactly did Mulder find that pentagon room? How did Cancerman know exactly where the surveilance device would be located? How did Mulder know where the surveilance device would be located? How did Mulder know exactly where that DOD guy would be? I could go on, but I choose not to. What about when Cancerman was in Mulder's apartment? You could just tell that he was upset, and then the way that he looked at the photo of Fox and Samantha... he sure seemed like he cared for Mulder. Could this be pointing to the assumption that the CSM is Mulder's father? Ok, I'm hoping that the "Gethsemane"-"Redux 1"-"Redux 2" trilogy will end up like the "Anasazi"-"Blessing Way"-"Paper Clip" trilogy: the first part is pretty good, the second part, besides some great shots of DD, was pretty weird, and the third part will just be the best. Even Mark Snow's music didn't live up to it's normal standard of excellence! David Duchovny was wonderful in this episode, Gillian Anderson's performance was great, and even Mitch Pileggi turned in good acting for this episode, but it wasn't enough to save this very confusing premire. I gave this episode a 7 because a)after this whole summer I was expecting something more exciting to start the season off with a *bang* b)the previews for next week's episode looks better than this whole episode in general. One thing I caught... in the previews for Redux 1, didn't they show Mulder putting the gun up to his head? They obviously didn't do it in the episode, so I was slightly put off by that."

"Dark and compelling with an interestingly literate script, this episode, when put in the current context of television, seems out of place...alien. This effect is compounded when you add a seemingly extraterrestrial lighting department capable of producing the most gorgeous lighting I ever seen on any screen and the extraordinary acting talents of Emmy award winning actress Gillian Anderson. In fact, the entire cast of actors on The X-Files is so excellent in every episode of the series that I simply have come to expect nothing short of brilliance from them, especially now, in their 5th season, with their fascinating well-portrayed characters so well honed. When Mulder breaches an extremely high security level things get intriguing, with what has to be the most imaginative set design I have ever seen on television. The X-Files is traveling down a, what you would call, not very well lit hallway, because it has never been travelled before. There has never been a television series with such a wonderfully black, paranoid vision of the secret dealings of the U.S. government. At the end of this hallway lies the truth, and the truth is not pretty. J. Edgar Hoover is doing somersaults in his grave. (Just as an aside - excessive use of old black and white stock footage coupled with the inclusion of a couple of scenes from past episodes - could mean the producers of the show were experiencing a missing time episode - with a major motion picture and a years worth of extremely hard television to produce. Showing that stuff could have been an artistic decision, I suppose, but whenever I see old film - that though always crosses my mind as a distinct possibility.)"

"'Redux' was definately worth the wait!! Chris Carter managed to climb out of the hole he dug himself in "Gethsemane" with an amazing episode! Mulder's "psudeoscide" was dealt with nicely, and the implicit trust and devotion between Scully and Mulder was breathtaking. SkinnerSuspicion was a great addition, even if I don't buy it. Scully's determination to find proof within herself was an excellent example of her character, and Gillian Anderson played it exquisitely. Mulder's relentless seach for a cure was heartbreaking, especially with the cliffhanger of "De-ionized water" and Scully's collapse. The flashbacks to the earlier episodes were what clinched it for me, showing how innocent and nieve both of them were four years earlier. The only thing that turned me off about this episode was how Carter tried to wrap up four years of a show into a few minutes of dialogue. The scenes of nuclear holocaust seemed a filler to me. I'm taking everything Kritschgau said with a grain of salt. But Carter still leaves the door open for aliens to exist with the existance of the chimera. To me, too much has happened for there to be nothing more than a governmental conspiracy. Overall, a wonderful episode that deserved the hype it got. Wonderful Scully/Mulder relationship as well. I've never seen them closer in their partnership."

"I probably gave this episode a higher rating than it deserved because I was so excited about the season premier. Although this episode resolved some of the confusion from "Gethsemane", it also created even more confusion about Skinner's envolvement with Scully's cancer, and Cancer Man's lack of involvment in this entire "conspiracy". I was very confused by the alien corpses which were supposedly fakes, according to Kritschgau, who had since been taken by the military. The long established link between governement and aliens will NOT be resolved in "Redux 2", just to leave us X-Philes hanging on and waiting for more. In general, a good episode with little action, and much explaination. I anticipate "Redux 2" will have much action, Scully fighting her cancer, Mulder trying to find a cure, etc."

"Watching this episode was so relieving. After five months of wondering what happened to Mulder and worrying about Scully's cancer, I found "Redux" to be a rather satisfying, yet very incomplete continuation of the story. It is very unlike any other episode, with it's lack of physical action and constant monologues. These aspects, though, are what make it a masterpiece. Hearing Mulder's and Scully's voices talk to us throughout the episode helps us to better understand their feelings and their situation. Next week after "ReduxII", I will finally be able to relax, although things will never be quite the same on The X-Files. Despite all of these troubles and changes, Mulder and Scully will pull through like they always do...and, as always, they'll do it TOGETHER."

"This was an awesome continuation of "Gethesame". Many faiths, beliefs, and science is tested and so much depends on the outcomes of these. In fact, Mulder and Scully's lives depend on them. The answer to the question regarding the body in Mulder's apartment was answered quite well and lead to an exciting episode dealing with the real existence of aliens and spaceships which are supposedly being controlled by the government. The hint about the Cigaratte Smoking Man being Mulder's father is very possible. And as for A.D. Skinner, it is suggested that he can be a threat. I can't wait until next week's episode. It'll definitely be a turning point no matter what "Redux II" is going to be like."

"This was a great continuation to the cliffhanger last season. I was shocked to learn of the elaborate plan woven by Mulder in order to facilitate obtaining classified information. However, it was even more surprising to see the CSM's outpouring of emotion for Mulder and the manner in which he defended him. It leades one to believe that CSM may, in actuality, be Mulder's father. This was an outstanding beginning to another great season of episodes which will hopefully answer as many questions as it poses."

"I didn't actually like this epiosde to much, there was to many voice overs and flash backs, but in this one episode they have reveiled more to us than all the previouse episodes put together. I gave five for the suspence, and three for the over all show. Okay now I need to check if I'm insane: Is it just me or was the CSM CRYING?!?! I wonder. Can't wait for next week, I really doubt that Mulder will work for him (but after all this is The X-Files and you never can tell....which is why I watch this!!)"
-Eileen A.-

"Was I the only one disappointed by this season premier? After the big build up in the season finale I guess I was waiting for great discoveries in this episode. Of course we all knew that it wasn't Mulder under the sheet but the story behind that could have been a little more exciting or action packed. Alas, with my X-File addiction I'll be tuning in next week to see where this is going. How is Skinner involved in this and why was Cigerette Man so choked up in Mulder's apartment?"
-Maria D.-

"I loved it! It was so good! I mean how they let us know about the 'real' abductions and stuff! And I was right about what happened to Mulder! Except that I'm sad that I have to wait a whole week till the next episode because I love Scully and I want to see what happens to her!"
-Ula B.-

"I'm so mad that we have to wait another week for the premire to finish...I can't wait that long...I want to know now!! And they can not kill off Scully!! What are The X-Files without Scully? The same for Mulder!"
-Elissa G>-

"I really loved this episode! I can't wait until next Sunday!"
-Sean A.-

"I knew Mulder was alive! Best season premier yet!!"

"It was just a really good episode"
