This rather 'odd' episode delt with killing trees. There's not much to say about it other than that I'm sure that Mulder fans are jumping with joy that he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. There are two noticable 'mistakes' which I found throughout the episode. The first was at the beginning when Mulder and Scully were at the coroner's office. Mulder said, referring to Bobby Rich, that "his classmates called him 'dork weed'." However, if you watch his mouth, it says something obviously different. Can anyone tell what he originally said? Also, the ending voice-over by Mulder was strange. For anyone else who taped the episode, if you go to that part and turn on the captions on your tv you will notice it, too. What you hear Mulder saying is completely different from what the captions say. The captions have a whole different soliloquy which is located below.
Below, are a few quotes from the episode and the ratings submitted by XFEOS members. They are followed with the comments and opinions on "Schizogeny".
Mulder: "I'm still finding it hard to reconcile the facts with the physical evidence."
Scully: "well, even if he didn't dig this hole, the disease could have killed root systems creating weakened soil."
Mulder: "Well, then how did the victim swallow 12 pounds of this stuff?"
Scully: "Well, when you fight for air, a vacuum is created. And maybe once he sucked down a mouthful of mud, it turned his esophogus into a siphon. With his head pushed down, it turned all of his passages into a gas can." Mulder gives her an unbelievable and hilarious look. "Well, you asked me for answers, those are the best ones I've got."
Mulder: "Hey, Scully. Is this demonstration of boyish agility turning you on at all?"
Scully: "Why would anyone want to steal[Karen Matthews' father's] body?"
Mulder: "I don't think that this was an act of grave robbing, Scully"
Scully: "No. That's what we were doing."
Mulder (voice-over from captions): "Abuse exists, as does the violence that accompanys it. The pleading cries in the night followed by the disturbing denial of culpability: 'If something bad happened, I didn't see it.' A witness to such a horrific event, I am forced to question the frequently blurred line between right and wrong. To weigh the guilt of one man's act against another. To decide if justice was served or if grevious injustice has prevailed. And, if pressed on the subject of what happened last night in the orchard, I will speak as truthfully as I can: 'If something bad happened, I didn't see it.'"
