Signs and Wonders

"Two things the X-Files does too much: kill twins, and have religious experiences. Two episodes ago, we saw 'Orison,' a troubling religious message to say the least. Now we have 'Signs and Wonders.' Well, this episode was no wonder, but it sure gave me a sign--stay away from small southern towns. The ending was a little different, normally its Scully who gets the religious awakening or whatever you want to call it. Not so this time. It wasn't even that great, there was no development to it, so had no real relevance. The strange thing I picked up on was that creepy reverend telling both Scully and Mulder that being attacked by snakes was "their experience alone," yet they both came to each other's aid. Significant? Probably not too much. Could have been much better, but its on the same level as all the other season seven episodes. 'Sein Und Zeit' save us! We're in need of a good mythology, or even just a good episode."

"Slithering into second rate comes this tepid tale of tenacious snakes. Anaconda vs. the Atheists. Mulder and Scaley. Trust no one becomes trust in the lord in this boring rehash of similar zealous religious sects of X-Files past. A snake does not an interesting X-File make. Snakes don't scare me nearly as much as the other things that Mulder and Scully have faced, so why bring them into the show now? The show definitely seems to have been drained of most of it's venom this season with not one solid puncturing of the skin of mediocrity. I have to admit to being disappointed. Maybe Chris Carter should be forced to stick his hand in a tank full of snakes."

"This was one of the scariest episodes I've seen in a while, or that might have something to do with my personal feelings towards snakes. The subject was pretty disturbing as well, especially the surprising twist at the end that made the supposed open minded "good guy" the true source of the evil."

"Excellent episode right up to the end where they blew it. I would have been fine never to have known where the snakes came from."

"I thought the birth of snakes was a bit much."
