In my opinion, this episode can be summed up in two words: it sucked! (Pardon my vulgarity) If any of you out there missed this episode, don't worry about it. You really did not miss anything. Then again, this is only my opinion. To me, "Travelers" does not seem like an episode of "The X-Files." It was truely borring. I usually watch each episode at least three times, usually a lot more. However, I couldn't even stand watching it the first time. This is because of many reasons. First, the absence of Gillian/Scully. She is the main reason that I watch the show. It is Gillian's phenomenal acting and her strength that keeps me watching, and that keeps the show together. It is her performance that thankfully conceals David's poor, unbelievable acting performances. Also, I really hate spiders. I cannot stand them. There were actually parts in this episode where I could not bring myself to watch certain scenes. The casting department could have done a much better job in casting a young Bill Mulder. The actor had absolutely no resemblence to the actor who played the old Bill Mulder. They could have done a much better job with that. In addition, Mulder was smoking. What's up with that? And, he was also wearing a wedding band, just like he did in the flashback episode 'Unusual Suspects.' Is Chris Carter trying to tell us something? There was only one positive aspect of this episode. The costume department did a fabulous job. The actor's costumes in the 1920's flashback was great. I especially loved the hats.
Below, are a few quotes from the episode and the ratings submitted by XFEOS members. They are followed with the comments and opinions on "Travelers".
Dales: "They found practically nothing. Do you think that they would have found nothing, unless nothing was what they wanted to find."
Dales: "When your partner dies, a piece of you dies with him."
Woman: "It's in an X File."
Dales: "An 'X File?'"
Woman: "Yes, an unsolved case. I file them under 'X.'"
Dales: "Why don't you file them under 'U' for unsolved?"
Woman: "That's what I did until I ran out of room. Plenty of room in the Xs."
Dales: "Who decides if a case gets an 'X?'"
Woman: "The director's office. It's, uh..., it's kind of a dead end. No one's supposed to see them, but it makes for interesting reading."

"I'm not sure how to start this review off. I really don't. I usually have some weird-ass thing to say, but this week has me stumped. Sorry. I don't know whether to faint, cry, laugh, or be *extremely* mad. Well, really, in the first few minutes after the teaser, I knew the episode was going to stink. (Or be mostly in Spanish.) It was written by John Shiban. (Oh, and Spotnitz.) I'm thinking, "Great. Get out your handy-dandy Spanish dictionary and get ready for a boring episode." I couldn't have known how right I would be with that. Except for the Spanish thing. Well, instead of going to the important stuff first, as I usually do, I'm going to be out-of-character and go chronologically through the episode. I don't think this review will be very long. First of all, I wasn't too pleased when I saw that the time frame was pre-Scully. I think the XF crew needs to figure out that they can do episodes with young Bill Mulder and stuff, and they can go back in time, but we Philes need our Scully. It's like our heroin. And what is up with them showing another pre-X-Files, pre-Scully episode next week? I think I'm going to hurt someone. Do they want us to forget what she looks like or something? Oh God. What is with Mulder's hair? That is so sad. He really cleaned up just before Scully got there. Do you suppose when he got the news he had been assigned a partner, he pulled up her file, saw how beautiful his new buddy would be, and went out for a complete make-over that weekend? He was eating sunflower seeds... I wonder how far back that adiction goes.... OK, I like the gray T-shirt he was wearing while watching TV, but I didn't like those glasses. Another thing he must have changed before Scully. The only cute-Mulder-moment in this episode was when Mulder was trying to get the old guy to talk to him, and he told him that if he didn't tell him what he needed to know, he would supoenna (spelling?!?) him and get the info in court, or whatever. That little smile he gave just before the guy let him in was cute. Awww.... OK. I'm mad. Mulder, you ass! Smoking? Bad boy!! And, hello, can you be more obvious about that ring? At first I thought it was a mistake they left in, David had forgotten to remove his tie to Tea. Then I realised, hey, he could have worn some kind of a school ring, or family ring, or whatever back then. But it was on his left ring finger. So... Mulder was married? Also... They are re-showing 'Unusual Suspects' next Sunday. This doesn't fit. (I feel like a smart FBI Agent putting pieces of a puzzling case together...) They have been showing repeats of 4th season episodes most recently on Sundays, not repeating shows from this season. So, the question is, why are they showing 'U. Suspects?' Beacause it is also a pre-Scully, pre-X-Files episode. And in the show, Mulder is also wearing the ring. They want us to get it. They want us to catch that Mulder is wearing a wedding ring. I think that the next all new episode will have something to do with a former wife of Mulder's. That's what I think. Maybe now I'll get my fight. I want M&S to fight. In case you didn't know that already. Agent Dales (the young version) looks like a young James Woods, don't you think? Oh, and the young Bill Mulder was pretty damn gorgeous, too. I think it must run in the family. I think he looked like Billy on "Ally McBeal". (I call it Ally McBean. I don't like her.) Billy! On "Ally McBeal"! It's another William!! Who was standing up against the filing cabinet in Cohn's office? He didn't say anything, but he was smoking.... The thing coming out of their mouths wasn't too jolly, was it? I liked that little speech Dales made after Michaels died. "When your partner dies, a part of you dies." Lets hope M or S never has to find out. (Well, no time soon, anyway.) So that's where the "X"-Files come from. The records lady filed them under "Unsolved" in the "U" section, but it got too full, so they changed it to the "X" section because there was more room. Always thought it stood for something spookier...something creepier. Oh well. I just thought the explanation was kind of mundane. I don't really like ending this review with a negative Mulder comment, but.... Did you see that tie? The blue striped one? Ug. His fashion sense really was worse back then. I didn't think it could get worse than some of what he wears now."

"Mr. Spotnitz, 'there are hits and there are misses....and then there are misses.' X-Files has had bees, cockroaches, grasshoppers, and little green bugs that are afraid of the light. I am not fond of spiders, particularily when they are crawling inside and out of people's mouths. I don't think this was ment to be a mythology episode. I think it was mostly monster of the week with a little insight on Mulder's father. I suppose that this is all leading up to something, the next two episodes are 'Unusual Suspescts' and 'Demons,' both dealing with Mulder's past/family. The beginning started out slow and boring but it did get better, but I don't think they explained it to well about what the spiders where doing in peoples mouths. Oh well, did anyone else see DD's wedding ring? Wonder if it was done on purpose. Maybe Mulder was actually married earlier in his life. I liked the new agent, if the ever have to do another episode without Mulder and Scully, I hope it will be with him."

"Mulder smoking? Not knowing what an X-File is? Some deranged alien coming out of someone's throuat? Where in hell is SCULLY??!! The plot was ok for an X-File but I hate it when they go back in time. Can't the writers come up with some strange things happenig in 1998? Like more babies with tails or "goth men" or crazy thinking computers or vamipre towns? Plus they took Scully away. What's up with that? Half of the veiwers tune in every week to see Scully. Ohh, men this bites!"
-Ula B.-
"The story was boring, an excuse to pay homage to the Nightstalker as the inspiration for the X-Files. Who cares? Let the Nightstalker stalk a better episode, or stake himself in the chest. The only positive things I have to say is that I liked the disturbing special effects, and the lighting was excellent as always. Oh, and I also liked the inclusion of that old song "Lili Marlene" by Dietrich, it's a haunting song."
-Michael B.-
"Maybe a three is too high of a rating for this episode...this show was awful!First of all, I tune in to see a show about Mulder and Scully.Secondly, this episode was way too confusing. I really should watch it again but I couldn't stomach it a second time."
-Maria D.-
"I'd have to say this episode was not quite what I have grown to love in the X-Files... I'll bet that one day when this is *more* explained Im sure I'll appreciate it more. Whereas I am giving it a 5 opposed to my 3 because it has such potential."
-Jenny T.-
"I didn't care for this episode that much. I thought it was rather boring. What was up with Mulder smoking and the wedding band? I think Chris Carter has a lot of explaining to do!"
-Debi C.-
"The main characters in this episode were not as involved as they could have been. Also, some of it was difficult to follow, especially with the time difference."
