Step-daughter Charlotte, who has called Pierce dad since she was a toddler, is expecting in August.
When she broke the news, Pierce joked: "Oh no! You've gone and made me a grandad and I'm only 44." Charlotte is the daughter of Pierce's tragic wife Cassandra - who died from ovarian cancer aged 39 - and her former husband Dermot Harris.
Charlotte, 25, was advised to have children early amid fears she might also develop her mother's condition. She and fiance Alex Smith plan to marry in London before the baby arrives.
The couple met at posh Millfield boarding school, Somerset, where they became teenage sweethearts. They have been dating for 9 years.
A pal of the couple said: "Pierce is absolutely delighted by the news. Charlotte and Alex are a great couple, and Pierce is not worried at all that they are not married."
