Oh, I kissed lots of ppl last christmas? But it was probably at my friend Joyce’s boxing day birthday party. There was lots of mistletoe going around and I kissed a few friends there – they were girls, I might add!
Why does Rudolph have a red nose?
because its cold, of course! He flies through the air and its freezing. Think how long hes up there for – u’d have a red nose flying through the air on christmas eve, wouldn’t u? yes? Well that’s my point!
Do u feel more romantic at xmas?
I feel more family orientated, more lovey in general. I really love christmas, especially if im around my family – im happily emotional. I actually used to get abit depressed if it was just me and my family at home, but now I really like it.
Would u ever sing in a pantomime?
No, but i did do the radio one christmas carol concert a couple of years ago. I was invited to sing in a little church and I sang ‘when a child is born’ with a gospel choir. It was beautiful. I loved that cos I remember going to church as a kid. Actually I’d really like to go to mid-night mass this year – its special and reminds me of being really little. I love those christmas traditions.
Is it hard to choose between spending christmas with ur girlfriend or family?
If I had a girlfriend I’d combine the 2 together. I usually have dinner with my mum and dad so I’d invite her around. My parents wouldn’t mind at all, they’d be cool. What about if she didn’t want to leave her family? Hmm, then it’d be difficult. I remember one year I had dinner with my friends and I felt really guilty about it after – I wouldn’t do it again.
What do u leave out for santa claus on christmas eve?
I used to leave out mince pies and sherry in front of our electric fire, as we never have a chimney. But one year it was ruined for me as I got up just after mid-night and walked into the front room to find mum and dad eating the pies. I started crying and (in a whining voice) said, why are you eating santa’s food? It was all ruined cos that when I realised he wasn’t real.
Do u feel u have to buy your family very expensive christmas presents now your famous?
To a degree I do – I wouldn’t feel I could buy them anything cheap. Although I wouldn’t buy them anything expensive just for the sake of it – it’d have to mean something. If it was something that they really wanted then hopefully they’d appreciate it. But my sister has expensive tastes and she’s really hard to buy for – she has to come with me.
Whats the nicest present a girlfriends ever given u at christmas?
A ring which my ex-girlfriend, Vicky brough for me. It was one of those with a black stone in the middle. I thought that was it – we were going to get married. Obviously we didn’t go.
Do u have any family traditions that take place at christmas?
Apart from christmas and boxing day dinners, not really. Sometimes we have a little party at a karaoke night. Actually last new years eve we have a party and it was at our new house and me and my mates ending up running around the garden, banging pots and pans on the greenhouse – it was completely brilliant.
You ever snogged anyone at a work christmas party?
Ermm (he goes all quiet) … let me think. No, I didn’t snog anyone from my record company or anyone who was there, come to think of it. What? Will I snog anyone this year? Well, there are a few ppl who’ve I got my eye on, so who knows?!
Have u ever been carol singing with your friends?
Yes – I even brought my keyboard along! I’d take my casio organ with me and a little seat and sit there playing while the rest of my class sang. We’d sit out ASDA for ages and we made loads of money which we gave to charity – it was great fun!
Is it important to have a gf at xmas?
Its nice to have someone to love and to love u back, but then that can be ur family or friends. Doing what I do now, I just want to get home and have a laugh with my mates rather then get all lovey-dovey. For me, Christmas is really about my family – I think Summer is more of a time for romancing.
Have u ever been caught sneaking a quick peek at your parents before the big day?
I was never caught, but I always used to look before the day – always! That’s typical of me - I’m nosey and I just had to find out.
Did your parents ever take you to Santa’s grotto?
Yes. I remember one year they took me and as soon as I sat on his knee I remember shouting, ‘Santa stinks of beer, mam!’ I could smell it on his breath. Then I started pulling his beard and saw it was the caretaker from school and he got really embarrassed – my mum didn’t know where to look.
How much money do u spend on xmas presents?
I end up spending a lot, especially now I’ve got money. Actually, even when I didn’t have money I’d spend a lot and end up overdrawn, but I’m quite a generous person so I don’t mind.
Do u think you’ll ever have a xmas no. one?
yes, I think so. I’ve never really wanted to get caught up in the xmas rush, but I’m sure one day I’ll record a song especially for it.
What’s the most embarrassing xmas present you’ve ever been given?
When I was 12 I got a Glow Worm, one of those that u squeeze and its face lights up. I’m good at pretending I like crap presents – I’m a bit of an actor. The sad thing is though, I actually liked it, butI couldn’t tell anyone cos it wasn’t cool!
Have u ever given a present that was a gift to u?
Yes. I’ll make a point of doing it this year as I’ve received so much champagne, I’ve got loads to give away. (laughing) Thinking about it, now I know what I’m going to give TV HITS this year!
