Chapter 3

The Party
Loz and Amrit jumped out of the car waving bye to Amrit’s sister as she drove away. The stood in the crowded area looking around. Where was everyone? Suddenly three figures approached them, it was the other Scott, Tanya and Nick, Scott’s best mates. Poor Scott had had to stay at home. The four buddies walked into the hall, which was packed full of teenagers. Amrit and Loz couldn’t see their others pals, Kel, Cathy, Billie and Rach anywhere. They spotted some tables and immediately climbed up on them to scan the room. They looked around totally bewildered and then Loz’s eyes caught on a tall figure. He looked really sad and then he looked up. Their eyes met and he smiled at her. She grinned at him and then turned to Amrit, who was also grinning. He mouthed to Loz, ‘you are an angel’ and she grinned turning red in the face. She turned for a minute and when she looked back, he had gone. He appeared ten seconds later in front of her, holding out a glass of punch. She took the glass and thanked him. They walked outside for a while and talked for a few hours. His name was Rich or Ritchie as the people close to him called him. He lived a while away and was only visiting. Then Rich had to leave, his friend who he was staying with had to be home by midnight. He gave Loz a small piece of paper and short kiss then left. Loz made her way to the others and they danced the rest of the night away. She clutched the piece of paper tightly in her hand, she wasn’t going to lose it for the world.

‘Ritchie, phone!!” Meg called up the stairs “Who is it, I’m busy!!” Ritchie wailed back. His Mum came up the stairs with the portable phone. “A girl, but I don’t think its Nadia.” Rich’s eyes lighted up and he grabbed the phone and shut his bedroom door. As he expected it was Loz, she had finally rung him after three days of agony. He had though that she didn’t like him and that had driven him crazy, as he was already upset enough about Nadia. They talked and talked till Loz had another call on the line. It was her bestest buddy Amrit so and she just had to talk to her. Besides Ritchie had a million things to do so they said ‘bye’ and Loz promised to ring him straight back after she had talked to Amrit. Rich sat at his desk, smiling to himself and feeling great again. He never though he’d feel happy again, not after the break up with Nadia. Now Nadia was a thing of the past and ha had great new girl....Loz...or atleast he hoped he did. “Ritchie, visitor!” “Oh no not another distraction!” Rich thought, he knew there was no chance in the world that it was Loz and therefore he didn’t want any visitor. He reluctantly climbed out of his chair and as he did there was a knock on the door. In walked Nadia not even waiting for an answer. She smiled fakely and then went to give Ritchie a hug. Ritchie backed away, suddenly not feeling so happy anymore. Over the time they had been apart Ritchie had realised just how much Nadia had used him and just howmuch she didn;t reciprocate his love and care. He didn’t want to be with her anymore. Noticing his coldness Nadia decded the only way to get him back was to break down and cry. So she started the waterworks and Ritchie fell for it. He gave her a hug, but he wasn’t going to get back with her, this was firm in his mind. When she had finally finished crying she asked for a drink of water. Ritchie obligingly ventured down the stairs to the kitchen to get it for her. While he was out of the room the phone rang. Since she was standing near it Nadia automatically picked it up. To her horror, it was a girls voice and she wanted to speak to Rich. Rich didn’t have too many friends that were girls. So she asked who it was and what connection she was to Rich. Loz a little bewildered by the questions regardlessly aswered them then asked who she was talking to. The girl on the other end sounded very angry and she confirmed that she was not Rich’s Mum or sister but his girlfriend! Loz was so shocked, but he had seemed so nice and so honest! Loz holding back tears, said she had to go. She slammed the phone down, lay on her bed and broke down into tears. Loz lay there for a while then agner overcame her and she grabbed the piece of paper Rich had given her and ripped it up then went downstairs, grabbed a match and set fire to the little pieces of paper. Ashes lay on the ground and she went back to her room still full of anger.
