Yeoh to Chan: I Like Brosnan Better

Before her role in Tomorrow Never Dies, Michelle Yeoh starred alongside Jackie Chan in two of the chopsocky legend's hugely successful Supercop movies. But it only took one outing with Pierce Brosnan to sway her loyalties. Yeoh recently told Mr. Showbiz that she prefers Brosnan to Chan "hands down" as a leading man. "I know Jackie's views of what women should do," she explained. "I mean, you look at all these other films—apart from Supercop—and his women are always the victims. They're always sort of decorative purposes in his films, and they run around going, 'Oh-Jackie-oh-Jackie-oh-Jackie.'"
Though Yeoh shoulders more than her share of the butt-kicking in Tomorrow Never Dies, Bond films haven't historically been overly progressive in their treatment of female characters. So what, then, does Brosnan have that Chan lacks? "Pierce is a truly wonderful human being," glows Yeoh. "It's good to see him not just as an actor but as a family man who values being a father, a good partner. And I really like to see that in a man, because that shows a man of confidence, that shows a man of responsibility. So it's definitely Pierce in that way."
Check back on Tuesday for the rest of our conversation with Michelle, in which she shares her thoughts on the Bond films, the reason she's no longer known as Michelle Khan, and the current political climate in Hong Kong.
