Sandra was born on July 26, 1966, in Arlington, Virginia. She spent the earliest part of her
life in Nuremberg (Germany) where her mom was an opera singer. Her family moved back to
Virginia when she was about 10. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1982. I suppose
it's not hard to believe that she was voted "The girl most likely to brighten up your day." She
brightens up mine all the time. After high school she went to North Carolina to major in
(big surprise) DRAMA at East Carolina University.
From there she moved to New York to work on getting a serious acting career started. So, she
did the normal thing and went on several auditions while working as a waitress. Well, she got her
first role in the TV version of 'Working Girl,' but it was canceled quickly which was just fine with
Sandra. She apparently didn't enjoy doing it anyway. Soon thereafter, she moved to Los Angeles where
she got a part in a made-for-TV movie called 'The Preppie Murder,' with William Baldwin. She then made
a number a small, low-budget movies before replacing Lori Petty as Sylvester Stallone's partner in
'Demolition Man.' This is where things really started to happen for her. She started to build up a
little bit of a following.....a fan club if you will, to which I am the president. OK, in my dreams
I'm the president. Then again, in my dreams, her and I are off alone on a deserted island beach
and.....well, maybe I better not go there. I want to try to keep this site 'family oriented.'
From here she went on to star with Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper in the spectacularly expensive
motion picture 'Speed.' As popular as both Dennis and Keanu are, I felt Sandra was what people liked
most about this movie. I know she's why I keep watching it over and over and over again. 'Speed' was,
as it's title would lead you to believe, an intense action movie, where things were constantly blowing
up, being crashed, and everything else that action movie-goers want to see. Sandra was instrumental in
making this movie a huge success, not only at the box office, but in people's minds. Anyway, after
'Speed' came 'While You Were Sleeping,' which is my current favorite. It was an amazing success also,
although it didn't bring in quite as much money as 'Speed' did. It only brought in $85 million to the
box office, as opposed to the $120 million that speed took in. Pity! Next in her rapid growth to
ever-lasting fame came 'The Net,' which I also liked quite a bit. 'The Net' was of course, about the Net.
Sandra starred as a computer genius whose life got a little complicated (OK, maybe more than a little)
after the power of computing got into the wrong hands. Computer genius or not, she was a genius
nonetheless in this role. I thought her acting was outstanding. The next step in her career path was
her role in 'Two If By Sea.' I kind of liked it, but it didn't do very well with reviews, and they
had it pulled out of most movie theaters very quickly. It is however already in video rental stores
which is how I saw it just recently, and although it's not thought of as being one of her best films,
she's still in it, so it's still worth seeing.......if only once.
.......and as we left the theater tonight, Debby, the girl I was with said "It wasn't as powerful as
the book." She was referring of course, to the brand new motion picture titled 'A Time To Kill,' the
original novel by John Grisham. No, Sandra was not the leading character, but she was nothing less than
magnificent in a supporting role. And no, maybe it wasn't as powerful as the book, but if you're going
to see a movie that matters, this should without a doubt be the one you choose. It isn't an action movie,
so things don't explode on screen every 5 seconds. It also isn't a love story, so men can see it if they
like. (hehe) OK, if it's not an action movie and it's not a love story, why should you see it, right?
WRONG! I will not say too much at the risk of blowing it for you, but 'A Time To Kill' is about 2
young men that rape a little black girl, then get gunned down by the girl's father in his outrage. It's
about how white America treats black America. In addition to the heart-wrenching plot, the movie was
extremely well made. It was unlike some movies about race. This one was realistic, truthful. If you
want to see a movie for action, rent 'Speed,' but if you want to see a movie that has a point, a
purpose, see 'A Time To Kill.'
