Demi has led a somewhat troubled life, with her father leaving her mother shortly before Demi
was born. Her mother and step father also indulged in heavy drinking, arguments and beating
episodes until her mother finnaly comitted suicide; Demi was still very young at the time.
At the age of 16, Demi quit high school to work as a pin-up-girl; and then 2 years later, at the
age of 18, married the rock musician Freddy Moore. Their marriage lasted 4 years.
Demi then became a regular on the TV sitcom General Hospital when she was 19. From the
day of her first paycheck, and for the next 3 years, she lived at parties and abused cocaine. It
was on the set of St Elmo's Fire in 1985 that she was fired by director Joel Schumacher for
turning up at the shoot high. After a week's treatment she returned, and has been clean ever
since.
In 1987 she married Bruce Willis and has since had three daughters - Rumor Glenn (who
played Demi's on-screen daughter in Striptease), Scout Larue and Tallulah Belle.
With her will, determination and lack of fear for publicity stunts - such as posing nude while
pregnant for Vanity Faire - she has made made her way to fame. With huge box office hits such
as Ghost (1990), Indecent Proposal (1993) and Disclosure (1994), she has become
Hollywood's, and the world's, highest paid actress - earning a reported $12 million for
Striptease.
