Ellen has returned from San Diego to take care of some business for her mother, Alice. Ellen and Matt are in Alice's apartment; they have been discussing Grace's murder. ''And that brings me back to what I asked you earlier. Are you, uh, are you planning on moving back here permanently, Ellen,'' Matt asks with concern. ''Well, I, I haven't made any decions, yet,'' Ellen replies softly. ''You see, I was hoping that you would decide not to stay here in Port Charles. I want you to go back to San Diego,'' Matt says sadly, as he places his hand on Ellen's shoulder. Ellen is heartbroken by what she believes is the brush off, however she puts on a facade. ''My only reason for coming back to Port Charles was to care for my mother,'' she rants. ''I know that....'' Matt tries to explain his reason, but Ellen isn't listening. ''I mean I never intended for you to feel any responsibility for that decision,'' she continues, as she stands and walks across the floor. ''No, that's not what I meant, Ellen...'' He can't get a word in edge wide. ''You know, come on. I mean I am a grown woman. I...I...I know that one night does not guarantee a relationship. I mean, even though I did think that we might...'' Ellen finally ceases her arguing, when Matt gets his voice heard. ''Okay, you know what. You got a time out, time out, time out,'' he gives her the time out signal. ''The only reason that I wanted you to go back to San Diego is for your own safety.'' Matt explains. ''My safety?'' She doesn't understand. ''Ellen, there is a maniac killing people at General Hospital. And nobody knows who's next on his list.'' ''Ooh,'' Ellen breathes a sigh of relief. ''You see, I couldn't stand the thought of losing you. That's the only reason that I was hoping that you'd leave,'' Matt confesses lovingly. ''You don't have to worry,'' Ellen's smile is filled with love for him. ''Well, you see now, the problem is that I can see you. You're right here. You're close. And all I can think about is how much I want to be with you,'' he says longingly. Ellen, touched by Matt's confession, with tears in her eyes, walks over and kneels in front of him. They tenderly and affectionately hug and caress each other. ''You know that all the time that I was gone I just kept thinking about, about being with you. About being with you, and just having you hold me. I didn't tell you that I was coming, because I wanted to surprise you. You know, pleasantly, pleasantly I hope,'' Ellen laughs with joy. ''Are you kidding. Ellen, come on, thinking about you is the only place that I can go in my head to get any joy. And now that you're right here. So real. It's even better than I remembered.'' Matt says with passion. ''Matt, I've missed you,'' Ellen admits with her heart. No longer able to deny their burning love and desires, Matt and Ellen begin kissing passionately, their hands rediscovering the other's body. The scene fades with soft background music.
