PLOT:
Several years after the events of part 5 Freddy has killed all but one of
the kids in Springwood. This last kid escapes and ends up in a home for
troubled teens. He suffers from amnesia; a psychologist returns to
Springwood with him. Three teens who stowed away with them are
butchered by Freddy. Maggie, the psychologist, finds out that she is
Freddy's daughter. With the help of a psychologist who studies dreams
she brings Freddy into the real world and kills him.
MYTHOS INFORMATION:
Freddy was taunted as a child by other kids who knew how he was
conceived and called him "son of a hundred maniacs".
Freddy's step father would beat him with a belt. Freddy began to
enjoy the pain.
Freddy now has the ability to enter the dreams of anyone who falls
asleep in Springwood, he is no longer limited to just the Elm Street kids.
Since we never see anything about Alice and her son it is possible that he
killed them and got their power to enter everyone's dreams.
Freddy was given his power by dream demons who look for the
most twisted human that they can find and give him the power to turn nightmares into reality.
BEHIND-THE-SCENES:
Looking to rebound from part 5's rather disappointing box office
returns New Line employed several gimmicks in this one. The obvious one
is the death of Freddy. There were also several cameos.
* Robert Shaye, New Line's founder and president, played the man who
sells John a ticket out of Springwood in his dream.
* Roseanne & Tom Arnold play the childless couple at the fair.
* Johnny Depp plays the guy in the antidrug commercial in Spencer's
dream.
* Alice Cooper plays Freddy's abusive stepfather.
When the unfortunate John Doe falls onto a bed of nails his body in
the real world gets covered in holes that fill with blood. The effect was
done with a fiberglass torso that had a mechanism that sucked down the
holes and filled them with blood.
The final battle with Freddy was shot in 3D. Rachel Talalay did not want to use that gimic, but the marketing guys over-ruled her. Everything from when Maggie puts on the 3D glasses untill she takes them off was the 3D part of time movie. audance members were told to put the glasses on when she did.
The first Nightmare on Elm Street film to have an adult protagonist.
Robert Englund's most over-the-top preformance as Freddy.
Made $34 million.
DEATHS:
Carlos (Ricky Dean Logan): Given superhearing by Freddy; head
explodes when Freddy scratches his nails to a blackboards.
Spencer (Breckin Meyer): Pulled into a video game and pushed into
a bottomless pit.
John Doe (Shon Greenblatt): Freddy cuts his parachute string and
he falls onto a bed of nails.
Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund): Pulled into the real world and
blown up with a pipe bomb.
SEX/NUDITY:
During the end credit sequence several memorable moments from
previous films are shown. One of them is Freddy's collapsing chest
sequence from part four with the bare breasted soul.
