Ursula, a woman from San Francisco, is on a safari in Bukuvu, a fictional nation in Africa. When her fiancee (whom she has few feelings for) shows up unexpectedly, they depart in the brush to speak privately. A lion strikes, but is quickly subdued by George, a man who grew up in the jungle after the plane he was riding on as a child crashed in the Bukuvu jungle. George takes Ursula to his home, while her fiancee makes up a story about being attacked by George to get Ursula's safari party to find her. Meanwhile, George and Ursula slowly fall in love. When poachers shoot George, Ursula takes him back to the States, where he is introduced to coffee and the San Francisco Bay Bridge. When George recieves word that his mentor, Ape, has been captured, George rushes back to Bukuvu to save him.

Miscellaneous:
The film was
based on a limited animation Saturday morning cartoon of the same name
much in the vein of the Rocky and Bullwinkle shows (I'm not sure if the
two shows are by the same creator).
There are talks
of a sequel, as well as a Dudley Do Right feature in the works, both rumored
to star Fraser.
The elephant
that played Shep was also featured in another Disney film -- Operation
Dumbo Drop.
MPAA Rating:
PG for violence.
My Rating:
When I first
learned of the film I thought I would not be interested in it. It
did not seem like my type of movie. It's not that I don't like comedy,
but I just don't go for guys wearing loincloths. Anyhow, at the insitance
of a friend, I saw it and laughed my head off. It was funny, and
it never took itself too seriously. I wonder what the reprocussion
might be on Disney's animated Tarzan feature might be, though.
