The Face: "Doin’ what I can with what I got!"
I watched the Tremors Marathon on DVD for a whole week to get this right. It's kinda like homework in a way. I sat sketching where hairlines go, eyebrow shapes, eye color, hair color, wrinkles and facial lines...I didn't just jump in, I studied. The figure and the head began life as a Tim Roth Reservoir Dogs figure. Mr. Orange I think. His Black Suit is now part of my MIB Will Smith...but that's another project. Anyway, looked in my reserves for someone with a similiar facial shape and found him. The nose and facial shape was perfect for this figure. Whoda Thunk? I did the boil and pop to remove the head to which I gave a considerable hair cut to and shaved down a few areas. When it came time for the hair details, I used a soldering iron to burn hair tracks in the sideburns, mustache and all of the bald hair spots where I had sanded down. When it came time to paint, steady hands and a keen artists sense of image guided the details of his face. The hair is actually Brown acrylic covered in a brushed on Black Ink wash to give it a Slick back look. TIP: whether you use gloss or matte clear coat, after it is dry, dust it with baby powder to give it a more real feel to it. Sometimes the powder gets down in the grooves and details and gives it a little more dimension. It also makes it less tacky to touch.
The Accessories: "What have you people got against being prepared?"
Almost the entire outfit was from a Soldiers of the World (SOTW) Israili Soldier, who by the way looked like Harrison Ford...but that's another project. So noticing that it was almost identical to his outfit in the opening scene in T3:BTP, I used it. His pistol and glasses came from a SOTW accessory pack. The Beret came from a 21st Century Ultimate Soldier (a GI Joe one would work too). His ascot was custom made out of a white T-shirt. His Night Vision Goggles and Ultra Sonic Watch were custom chop jobs from some generic Joe I saw in the dollar store. I believe GI JOE and 21st Century have some decent night vision goggles too. For the gun... I so badly wanted a Grizzly Big Boar. I searched all over, and with no avail tried to make a custom one. Then it was brought to my attention that the USA Tremors series site was up and he had a new anti tank weapon of destruction. On the first trip to TRU I found the exact gun. It is a 21st Century Sniper's pack that comes with 2 bolt action rifles, the "Grizzly 2", a Sock cap and a "Gilligan" hat.
