The following is a story my cousin, Laura Weir wrote. It is about Noel Gallagher, a member of her favorite band, Oasis, meeting Art Alexakis, a member of my favorite band Everclear. ENOY!
It was 7:00 in the afternoon on Sunday, August 16th. Art Alexikis was on vacation in London, England. He was drinking tea at an outside café and was enjoying the atmosphere very much. Art decided that after his Everclear tour, it was time he took a little time to himself, just to himself. He loved the English accents and was quite amused by the BBC. He thought to himself, maybe I could buy a little house here.
It was a very warm day; Art had put on his blue v-neck T-shirt and a pair of jeans. Even though Art loved spending time to himself, he began to feel kind of lonely. He wanted to chat with someone so he started looking around to see if there was someone he could talk with. He spotted a man with an Adidas shirt and black jeans on with big black sunglasses. He was just sitting there with a beer so Art decided to join him. As Art made his way to the other table, he realized that this man looked rather familiar, but he didn't really care…as long as he had some company just for a while. He walked up to the man and said,"Hi." The man looked up from his lager and said,"Hi, mate," In a Manc accent,"what's up?" and he made a gesture for Art to sit down at his table. Art was very surprised at how friendly he was. "My name's Noel." He said as Art sat down. Noel extended his hand for Art to shake. "I'm Art," he said. "Hey Art!" Noel said as he winked at him, he was obviously drunk, "D'you live round here?" "No," Art said, "I'm from Oregon. USA. You know, you look familiar to me…" Art just knew he saw Noel's face somewhere, but he didn't know where. "Noel Gallagher? Oasis?" Noel was kind of waving his hands around like he couldn't believe Art didn't know who he was. "Yeah! That's it." Art didn't really listen to British music a lot so he'd never heard of Oasis. "Well, I know who you are," Noel said with a smug grin, "Arrrrrrrrrrrt." Art loves being recognized, "Cool!" Noel leaned his elbow on the table," Now, Art, mate. Ya gotta get out of this kind of depression, yer know what I mean?" Art hated for his music to be disrespected so he was angry about that comment,"Well, what do you mean I gotta get out of my depression?? My music is like my therapy and now I got this fucking writer's block and it's got me really pissed off!!!" Noel leaned back in his chair and said ,"Ah, you got a block. Well, that's too bad mate, but you're doing the right thing by just relaxing cos you know it'll come to you sooner or later, you know? You just have to be patient about it." Art got calmer now,"Yeah, you're right, man. Sorry about that." Noel said," No problem, mate."
"Getting a little late now, isn't it?" Noel said. It was getting dark, but it wasn't really late. It was about 8:30. Art said, " It's getting dark, yeah." Noel began to get up and said to Art,"We could chat a little on me steps. There's a lovely view of the sunset." Art loves sunsets so he went along with it. Besides, it was on the way to his hotel. London really is wonderful, Art thought to himself; the people are so friendly. As they got to Noel's house Art was amazed at how beautiful it was. Noel began spinning around in front of his house, "Yes, this is Supernova Heights!" He stopped spinning and looked at Art, "So, what do you think?" Art said,"It's beautiful! How much was it?" "Well," Noel said," I'm afraid that the price cannot be reveled." He winked at Art again. Then he opened up the gate and made a motion for Art to step inside. Art did and sat on the steps leading to the house. Noel sat down next to him, "D'you got any kids, Art?" "Yeah, my little girl, Annabella." Art took out his wallet and showed Noel a picture of Annabella. "Awwwww…" Noel said,"She looks so sweet." Art put the picture away and said,"She is sweet. Do you have any kids?" Noel looked down at the ground, "No, no, not yet. Don't really know if I'm ready, you know? I mean, I'm always on the road and stuff…" Noel looked up at Art,"How do you manage it?" Art said, "Well, I just spend as much time with her as I can. Not like my father gave me any time, the old bastard." "What do you mean?" Noel asked him. Art looked at his feet; "My father left me when I was very young. My childhood was horrible." Noel got to his feet, "Well, I'm gonna go grab a lager, d'you want one, mate?" Art was on vacation so, why not? "Sure", he said.
When Noel got back, he gave Art a beer, sat down, opened the bottle and said,"Well, at least your father just left, mine wouldn't leave. Hahaha. Fucking bastard stayed until he almost crushed the entire family's self esteem and spirit." Art was feeling really angry now about his father, his childhood, his life, "Dude", he said," Both our childhood's really sucked!" Noel looked over at Art and then he started to laugh,"Yeah, don't I know it!!" Art began to laugh too. He didn't know what was so funny though. They were, after all, discussing their painful childhood memories. "Well, look at us now, eh?" Noel said while still laughing, "We're celebrities!" Art said,"Yeah, that's cool!" Noel looked over at the sun. "It's almost time for the sun to set. My favorite part of the day." Art looked over, "Yeah." He saw the sun going down over the trees and thought about how much everyone took for granted. Moments like this… how many people really appreciate this? And as the sun set, Art thought that he should bring his family here, they'd love this. He could feel his head clearing and a kind of rhyme coming to him. It worked! Art raised his hands in the air and yelled, "YES!" Noel looked at him, but he knew that Art had probably thought of something to write about and he was happy for him. After all, this situation has helped Noel, himself, many times before.
Soon, the sun was gone and it was dark. Noel looked at Art and said, "See, man, I knew this would help you." And smiled. Art was so happy now, "Thank you so much, Noel, I'll never forget this. If you ever need a band to support you, you know where to call." Noel said," Thanks, mate. Same here." Art got up from the stairs,"Well, I should be going now. Keep in touch." Noel got up too,"You betcha! Cheers!" he yelled and waved to Art. As Art was walking down the street to go to his hotel, he knew that this would be a place that he would visit very often. He smiled at that thought and continued walking.
