Best Female Newcomer: Preity Zinta for Soldier and Dil Se

The LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT awards salute luminaries in the Indian film industry - the stars who made magic for generations and continue to do so even today. This year, these were given to two unforgettable talents: Helen and Manoj Kumar

The FILMFARE SONY award for BEST SCENE, instituted this year, was given to Ghulam- the famous clip of Aamir Khan running towards the train was voted the favourite.

The RD BURMAN award for the best upcoming musical talent was taken by Kamaal Khan, who made the mark in Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya with his song, O oh jaane jaana.

A SPECIAL award was presented to film-maker, Shekhar Kapoor, who has created waves in the international film world with Elizabeth.

The POPULAR awards made some stars very happy; others had to wait until next year for possible success. The music awards were overwhelmingly in favour of the "train song" from Dil Se, while the college-to-adulthood film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was clearly the hot favourite Bollywood product.

Best Performance in a Comic Role: Johnny Lever for Dulhe Raja

Best Supporting Actor: Salman Khan for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Best Supporting Actress: Rani Mukherjee for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Best Actor: Shah Rukh Khan for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Best Actress: Kajol for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

MARATHI FILMS: Tu Tithe Mi made a clean sweep of the Filmfare awards, winning all four in the language category.
