Upstairs in the ballroom, when the cast- introduced by Charles Keating, who’s returning on-air in mid-June as Carl, to see the show to its conclusion- addressed their fans, there was some weepiness, but also lots of fighting words. Victoria Wyndham set the tone when she said in her opening speech that "the best thing that could have happened to this group of people who are ‘Another World’ is for their necks to be out from under the foot of NBC. It’s unhealthy- much less creative- to be working for an entity that doesn’t want you. It’s been a nightmare."

Vicky thanked the fans for everything they had done "to find Another World a new home. You are doing exactly the right thing. We need a miracle, and I believe in miracles. I believe in this show, and I believe even more in the fans of this show. You are being listened to…the industry is watching what you are doing… so don’t give up. Keep up your good work."

Vicky told me privately that she’d known this was coming for the past 10 years. "NBC simply did not want a show that they don’t own outright, and that they did not understand for all the years it has been on." She said she wanted to quit when her beloved co-star, Douglass Watson(Mac Cory) died, but she didn’t for practical reasons and also because it took more courage to stay, like in staying in a bad marriage rather than running because you want to find a way to save it." After Charles Keating was fired a year ago, she "went into mourning" and quit in December, but executive producer, Chris Goutman, persuaded her to stay on for the good of the show. But, she confessed she’s felt for a long time like that knight in ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail;" First he gets one arm hacked off, and he keeps on fighting, and then both feet, and then he’s just a stump and then a head, and he’s still fighting." Her fight didn’t work. She’s hoping the fans will.
