Chapter Six
On Christmas Day, Kyra woke with a start as her twin sister bounded into her room & leapt on the bed. "What are you still doing in bed, sleepyhead?" Athena cried. "It's Christmas morning!" Kyra pretended to groan and roll over. "Ever heard of sleep, Thena? That's why I'm still in bed," Kyra teased as she rubbed her eyes. Athena shook her sister's shoulder. "Get up or else I'll beat you up," Athena threatened jokingly. "I want to go open my presents!" "Who says you have any?" grumbled Kyra, throwing the covers back & sitting up. "You keep waking people up from a sound sleep and they'll get all your presents." "You're such a grump in the morning, Ky," laughed Athena. Kyra just shook her head, put on her slippers and robe and headed downstairs with her twin.
Stefan was waiting in the living room, along with Jason, Nikolas & Stephanie, who'd all spent the night at Wyndemere. "There they are!" boomed Stefan when he saw the twins. "Good morning, Uncle Stefan. Merry Christmas," Kyra smiled as she kissed Stefan's cheek. "Good morning everyone," she added, sitting down on the couch & tucking her feet under her. Everyone said their good mornings and Stefan began to hand out the mountain of presents from under the tree. Just as they were finished opening the presents, Mrs. Landsbury escorted Helena & Andreas into the room. Kyra tried not to let too much show in her face as she locked eyes with Andreas. Athena watched the interaction between her sister & Andreas, impressed at the love showing Andreas's eyes. "As usual you forgot to invite me to your family gathering, Stefan," began Helena. "How rude of you." "I wasn't aware there was a reason for you to be here, Helena, as there certainly are no gifts here for you," Stefan replied. "To the contrary, Stefan. I was called by Kyra yesterday & informed she had gifts for myself & Andreas," beamed Helena smugly. All sets of eyes turned to Kyra who reluctantly tore her gaze from Andreas. "I thought it was time we put the past behind us so I bought Grandmother & Andreas a present. It's Christmas, isn't it? The season for giving and forgiving?" Kyra smiled sweetly. Helena came over & gave Kyra a brief hug. "That's nice, my darling. Where is the present you have for me?" Helena purred. "Right here, Grandmother," Kyra strode over to the tree and grabbed the two presents she had stuck at the back. "Grandmother," Kyra gave Helena one package. "And Andreas." Kyra sat back down on the couch with a small smile. Her eyes returned to Andreas to watch him open up the sweater & bracelet. "Thank you, Miss Cassadine," Andreas said formally, kissing Kyra's hand. "You're welcome," she answered softly. Helena's present was a unique pair of earrings that Kyra had found in an antique shop. "They're wonderful, Kyra dear!" exclaimed Helena. "Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Andreas, give Nikolas, Stephanie, Athena, Kyra & Jason the presents we brought for them. And give Stephanie the present we bought for the new baby," ordered Helena. "Yes, Madame," Andreas said. Stephanie looked surprised that Helena had bought something for the baby. She was just three months pregnant, but she appreciated the thought. Andreas handed them all a present, pausing briefly at Kyra. "Would you like to sit down, Andreas?" offered Kyra politely. "If it's okay with you, Grandmother. Please, have a seat," she added. Helena looked surprised. "Why, thank you, Kyra. Of course we'll sit," Helena nodded at Andreas, who sat down beside Kyra. Kyra opened the package, looking pleased to see a beautiful pink cashmere sweater. "It's lovely, Grandmother. Thank you," Kyra smiled at Helena. "You're welcome, darling," Helena said with a smug look at Stefan. Stefan was sitting calmly, drinking his coffee. Jason, Stephanie, Nikolas & Athena chimed in their thanks for their presents as well. "I'm sorry for not bringing you a present, Stefan, but since you decided to leave me out of your Christmas celebration, I left you out of mine." Helena informed Stefan with an evil smile. No worries, mother dear," answered Stefan. "Have you had a nice Christmas otherwise, Helena?" Stephanie asked politely. "Thank you for asking, dear, yes," answered Helena. "It's nice to see you here, Jason. Does that mean you & my granddaughter are getting more serious?" Jason blushed & looked Athena briefly. "Yes, Helena, it does," he answered gruffly. "How nice. Now all we need to do is find Kyra a man." Kyra looked up, startled. "That's okay, Grandmother, thank you. I don't want anyone to 'find' me a man. When the perfect one comes along, I'll know." Kyra carefully avoided looking at Andreas as she spoke. Helena looked somewhat surprised. "Certainly, darling. What a lovely idea," allowed Helena. Kyra looked relieved as she sat back against the couch. There was an awkward silence until finally Helena spoke up. "Well, we should be going now, Andreas. I'm sure the children are going to see their mother after & we'd better let them get ready," Helena said, standing. Andreas reluctantly stood, happy beside Kyra. "Thank you again for the invitation, Kyra," added Helena before walking out the door. Andreas nodded & followed suit. Kyra braced herself for the attack she was sure would follow, but found herself feeling immensely sick for the third morning in a row. She flew up the stairs & into her washroom in her bedroom before anyone could say a word.
"Thank you, Mommy & Daddy," Lulu cried, holding up her brand new dolly for Lucky to see. All four Spencers were sitting in Laura's living room, opening presents. Luke & Laura had decided to do it that way for Lulu, to make her Christmas really nice for her. "Glad you like it, darlin," Luke said with a smile. "Your mom told me you would." Lucky, what did Santa bring you?" asked Lulu, almost out of her Santa believing stage but not quite yet. "Some new clothes & a new CD player, Lulu," answered Lucky. "What'd he bring you?" Lucky played the game with her, enjoying the happiness 'Santa' gave to his sister. "A tea party set, a table & chairs to go with that, some new clothes & a tape recorder," Lulu looked seriously at her brother. "I must've been real good." Laura hid a smile. "The best, honey," she said. "Now, I think we're done opening all presents." "Mom, who're all those presents for?" Lulu asked, pointing to another stack of presents under the tree. "They're for Nikolas, Athena, Kyra & Stephanie," answered Laura. "Oh. When are they coming over, Mom?" persisted Lulu, oblivious to the looks that had come over her father & brother's faces at the mention of Laura's other children. "Later, sweetie. Why don't you take your new dolly upstairs and introduce her to your other ones? That way they can start making friends," Laura suggested. Lulu nodded agreeably & took the doll upstairs. "What time are they coming, Mom?" Lucky asked evenly. "Later, Lucky. I don't know what time & I don't want to hear any comments," Laura said shortly, starting to gather up bits of wrapping paper. Luke observed this with a bit of awe in Laura. Usually, he was on Lucky's side when it came to the Cassadines; but to see Laura finally stand up for herself & stop hiding from the past was nice. "I'll be leaving now, then," said Lucky, gathering up his things. "And go where, Lucky?" Luke couldn't help interjecting into the conversation. "I was thinking about moving in with you, Dad," Lucky said softly. Laura laughed sarcastically. "That's your mature solution Lucky? Moving in with your father won't change that they are your siblings. And if you're waiting for me to beg you to change you're mind, you'll be sorely disappointed. I'm tired of you're attitude towards the twins, Lucky. If you want to move out, there's the door." With that, Laura headed into the kitchen to make breakfast for Lulu, leaving Luke & Lucky stunned.
Chapter Seven
"Alright, start explaining," Athena stood in front of her twin sister, tapping her foot. Kyra was curled up in bed, her arms wrapped around a stuffed panda that Andreas had given her three months earlier. "Start explaining what?" Kyra asked weakly, trying not to throw up again. It was four weeks after Christmas, and Kyra had been deathly ill ever since then. She had a hard time keeping anything down, but had worked hard to keep it from being noticed. Athena, however, never missed anything concerning Kyra & was now confronting her twin. "Kyra, you were like this when I moved out two weeks ago. I believed then that it was the flu, but it would?ve been long gone by now," exclaimed Athena. "And now here you are, still sick. Ky, please tell me what's wrong," Athena pleaded, afraid her sister had something serious. Kyra eyed her sister, the closest person in the world to her. "Nothing," she said softly. "I just have the flu. "That's it!" Kyra jumped at the force of her sister's tone. "If you don't tell me right now what's wrong, Kyra Cassadine, I am going to get Uncle Stefan & tell him you're sick," Athena said. "No!" Desperation flitted across Kyra's face. "Okay, I'll tell you. But Thena, you have to promise you won't tell anyone else," she begged. Against Athena's better judgment, she promised, sensing that was the only way Kyra would talk to her. "Thena, I think I may be pregnant," Kyra whispered. "WHAT!" shrieked Athena. Kyra put her hands over Athena's mouth. "You promised, Thena," she warned. Athena nodded & lowered her voice. "Oh, Ky, how did this happen?" Athena asked. Tears slid down Kyra's cheeks. "Andreas surprised me just before Christmas with a private celebration of our own," she began tearfully. "It was so romantic, Athena. Candles, roses, soft music. We began to dance & the next thing I knew we were kissing & he was giving me this ring," Kyra held out her hand. Athena gasped, not having noticed the ring before. "He gave you that?" squeaked Athena. Kyra nodded and managed a small smile. "Beautiful, isn't it? Anyway, we kissed again & the next thing I knew we were making love," continued Kyra. "Now here we are, five weeks later, & I've been puking my guts out every day for the last four weeks." Kyra laid back down on the bed, miserable. "Thena, what am I going to do? As bad as this sounds, I want Andreas's child. But no one can know that it's his child I'm carrying, Athena. No one," Kyra looked panicked as she talked. Athena sighed and sat down on the bed, at a loss for words. "So what do you propose to do then?" she asked her twin quietly. Kyra looked seriously at Athena. "I have been very sick in here for four weeks, and quiet. I've barely seen anyone - so I can just say that I was raped," answered Kyra. She looked down at her hands, twisting them nervously. "Ky, that is such a big lie!" Athena looked shocked. "I know, Thena, but what else can I do? I can't exactly tell the truth, can I?" Kyra asked, anguished. Athena sighed. "I warned you of this from the beginning, Kyra. Keeping secrets always blows up in the person's face." Kyra nodded. "I know, but it's too late now. I'm going to tell Andreas tonight when I see him. Tomorrow I will announce it to the family." Athena shook her head in disbelief. "As much as I hate this, you know I'm behind you -- for now," she warned. "If this gets too deep, all bets are off & I will tell Uncle everything." "Thanks, Thena," Kyra hugged her sister. Glancing at her watch, Athena stood. "I'm meeting Jason for dinner. Will you be okay? Kyra nodded. I'll be leaving to meet Andreas soon, she said. I'll call you tomorrow morning then, okay?" Athena hugged Kyra before she left. Kyra laid her head down on her panda after Athena left and sobbed quietly, hoping that everything would work out.
"Are you sure?" Andreas asked Kyra, taking her hand in his. They were sitting on the couch at the cottage & Kyra had just told Andreas that she was pregnant. "If a home pregnancy test is any indication," Kyra tried to keep the mood light, but failed miserably. "I'm sorry, Andreas. I guess I'm still in shock." Andreas took her in his arms, crushing her against his chest. "Kyra, this is my fault. I was the one who initiated...." he trailed off & swallowed hard. "I'm the one who didn't take any precautions." Kyra lifted her face & forced Andreas to look in her eyes. "I'm not sorry, Andreas. Not about that night, and not about being pregnant. I want your child -- very much. I just don't want anything to happen to us or the baby. I'm scared of what Helena will do, Kyra shuddered at the thoughts running through her head. I want to tell everyone I was raped, Andreas. That way, they won't know the baby is yours." Andreas looked at Kyra, horrified. "No! You mustn't do that, Kyra. That is not right to do to the child. What we are going to do is go away & get married. I want this to be a legitimate child, Kyra. We've been hiding for almost seven months now, and I am getting tired of it. Somehow, we'll deal with Helena. But you have been so sweet to her that maybe she'll forgive it as long as we agree to move into the yacht or at least be nearby." Andreas's mind was whirling, trying to figure it all out. At this point, he didn't care if he had to have Helena killed. Andreas loved Kyra & she was carrying his child. Helena wasn't going to ruin that if Andreas had anything to do about it. Kyra glanced at him, stunned. "You'd do that for me? For our baby?" she asked softly. "You'd putting your life at risk to do that, you know." "I know, Kyra, but you would be too," whispered Andreas. "Would we leave tonight?" Kyra asked uncertainly. "Yes. Go home, gather all your money & any necessary material items you will need. We should stay away for a few days. I will meet you in an two hours back here, okay?" Andreas looked at Kyra anxiously. Kyra grinned & nodded. "I'll tell Uncle I'm staying at a friend's house or should I leave a note instead?" Kyra wondered. Andreas furrowed his brow in a way that made Kyra's heart pound. "I'll have to lie, so will you. Tell Stefan you are staying with a friend for a few days & I will tell Helena a family member is sick. That will explain why I am gone. Are you sure you're okay about this, Kyra?" Andreas put his hands on her cheeks so he could see her eyes. Kyra smiled, excited now. "Andreas, I want to be with you, be married to you, have you children. I want this," she promised. Andreas impulsively leaned over & kissed her. "I'll see you in an hour," he whispered. He strode out the door & into the night. Kyra followed shortly after, her heart feeling lighter now that they had a plan.
"Okay, I'm here, what is it?" grumbled Alexis as she entered Stefan's office at Wyndemere. "Really, Alexis, you could be more polite," Stefan rose from his position behind the desk to greet his half-sister. "I apologize, Stefan," Alexis smiled with mock sweetness. "But I wasn't exactly asked to come here, I was ordered to. I don't appreciate that, you know. You could be more polite to me." "You're right, Alexis, I'm sorry," Stefan said humbly. Alexis couldn't believe her ears. "What? You're apologizing? What's come over you, Stefan?" "Moving on, Alexis. I have some concerns regarding Kyra," Stefan informed Alexis. Alexis was surprised. "Really? I thought everything was getting better since Christmas? Helena is ecstatic with Kyra's behavior, isn't she?" "As far as I know," answered Stefan. "But that's not what I mean. Where Helena's concerned, Kyra has done a complete about face. Maybe that's the problem -- why all of a sudden would Kyra do a turnabout in her attitude towards Helena? Her behavior since Christmas has been a little odd." "Odd how?" inquired Alexis. "She's been spending a lot of time her room since then, has been really quiet when she's not in her room, & is really pale. Alexis, will you talk to her?" pleaded Stefan. "What about her mother, Stefan? I mean, I'm flattered you want me to talk to her, but what about Laura?" Alexis asked. Stefan's gaze darkened. "Laura has chosen her other children over Kyra & Athena's needs. As far as I know, she hasn't spoken to either of the twins since Christmas Day. I want Kyra to have someone she can count on to talk to, not someone who disappears whenever her other children or ex-husband call her," Stefan answered. Alexis nodded, "Okay, I'll talk to her. Is she in her room now?" "I think so," replied Stefan. "I'll go see her right now," Alexis turned back towards the door, turning back once to gaze at Stefan. "Athena, Kyra & Nikolas are really lucky to have you, Stefan," she said softly, and then left the room.
Chapter Eight
"Athena, I know something's wrong. Please tell me," Jason begged his girlfriend. Athena had been acting strange ever since she got home from Wyndemere. She had been leaving things in weird places & seemed to be in a daze. Jason would have to say things two or three times before Athena heard him. "What do you mean, Jase? What could be wrong?" Athena feigned innocence. "Please don't play games with me. You've been acting weird ever since you got home from Wyndemere. Did something happen there? Did you hear something you shouldn't have?" he asked. Athena was tempted to tell Jason, but was hesitating because of her promise to her sister. "Jase, if I tell you, you have to swear to me on your sister's grave you will not tell anyone. If you tell someone, our relationship will be over immediately," Athena said. Jason was surprised by the seriousness of Athena's tone. "I promise you, Athena, I will keep whatever it is you tell me a secret," he promised, concerned now. Athena released a huge sigh and then spoke. "Kyra is pregnant -- with Andreas's child." To his credit, Jason didn't say the first thing that popped into his head. "Andreas & Kyra?" he asked incredulously. "Athena, did you know the two were seeing each other?" Jason asked suspiciously. Athena lowered her eyes. "Yes," she admitted. "Why didn't you say anything? Is your sister crazy?" Jason finally exploded, frowning. "She could get herself killed! Doesn't she know what Helena will do when she finds out?" Jason could've continued ranting but stopped when he saw tears rolling down Athena's cheeks. "Baby, I'm sorry," Jason lowered his voice, putting his arms around her. "I don't mean to yell." "Jason, I know it was a stupid thing to do, but Kyra really loves Andreas," Athena whispered. "I saw them together at Christmas & I could tell their feelings are genuine. But I'm so scared of what Helena will do if she finds out. Kyra thinks she's going to pretend she was raped. That way Helena won't find out." Jason's eyes widened & he shook his head. "Your sister's crazy," he muttered. Athena smiled weakly. "I know, Jase, but that's not the point right now. The point is Kyra is in trouble & I don't know how to help her." Jason rubbed Athena's arms reassuringly. "We'll think of something, Thena," he promised. "Just give me some time." Athena looked up at Jason hopefully. "You'll help?" "Of course I will," Jason said gruffly. Athena laid her head against Jason?s chest and sighed, praying that everything would be okay when all was said and done.
Kyra was in her room packing her bag when a knock sounded. She had packed some pajamas, a nice dress & five outfits. Then she got her cosmetics bag out & filled it with combs, brushes, hair elastics, makeup, her toothbrush & jewelry. She added a picture of her & Athena to the bag & zipped it shut. Realizing she had forgotten shoes, she quickly added two pairs to the bag. Kyra was just zipping it back up when a knock sounded, and she put the bag on the floor to go open it. "Aunt Lexi! I didn't know you were here," greeted Kyra with a smile. "Your uncle asked me to come see you," Alexis answered. "May I come in?" "Sure, but why did Uncle ask you to come see me?" Kyra asked curiously. Alexis came in & sat down on the bed. Her eyes fell on Kyra's bag. "Going somewhere?" she asked. Kyra nodded. "I'm going to a friend's house for a day or two. She just broke up with her boyfriend & needs some comfort. But you didn't answer my question -- why did Uncle want you to come & see me?" Alexis looked Kyra right in the eye. "Because he's worried about you. He said your attitude towards Helena has changed drastically since Christmas & that you've been very quiet since then as well, staying in your room a lot, looking pale. Did Helena do something to you, Kyra? I do see bags under your eyes. Is there something you want to tell me?" Alexis asked gently. Kyra was immensely relieved that Alexis had bought her story regarding her going to a friend's house. She sat down on the bed & shook her head. "I overheard a conversation between Uncle & Athena, she confessed. Uncle was saying he was scared Helena would hurt me if I wasn't nicer to her so I decided to be nice," explained Kyra, pleased that Athena had told her about that conversation. "As for me being pale, I've had the flu, Aunt Lexi. That's all." Alexis looked skeptical. "Are you sure it's as easy to explain as that, Kyra? That's almost too easy." Kyra stood up and headed over to her bedroom window, looking out towards the cottage. She had to hurry, or Andreas would think something had happened to her. "Aunt Lexi," she sighed, turning back to Alexis. "Either you believe me or you don't, I don't care. But I am telling you the truth." Alexis nodded & stood. "I believe you, but if something does happen with Helena, you know you can come to me, right?" she asked. Kyra smiled. "I know. And I will come to you if anything else happens, I promise." Alexis came over and kissed Kyra's forehead. "See you later, hon." Alexis left the room & Kyra sank down on her bed with relief. For now, she was safe from anyone discovering her secret.
"Going somewhere?" an icy voice asked. Andreas froze from his packing & turned to face Helena. "Madame, I was looking for you earlier. My aunt is very ill & I must go see her at once," he told Helena. Helena gazed at him silently for a moment & then smiled. "I was out for a walk on the deck, talking to the captain," Helena informed Andreas. "I'm sorry this is so sudden, Madame," Andreas bowed as he kissed her hand. "But I really must go to my aunt." Helena nodded, not at all suspicious of Andreas. He'd never given her any reason to be, though she'd suspected as of late that he had a lady friend. Surprisingly, that didn't bother her as much as she thought it would, now that she had found comfort in the Captain's bed. "Hurry back, Andreas," she ordered. "I will, Madame. Will Madame please take care of herself while I'm gone?" Andreas smiled at her. "I wouldn't want to worry about you as well." Helena chuckled. "Such obedience. Of course I will, Andreas." Andreas continued to pack, and then zipped his bag. "I'd best be leaving now, Madame. If Madame needs anything, my cell phone will be on," he assured her, leaving the room with her & heading to the door of the yacht. "Stay well, Andreas. Safe trip." Helena kissed his cheek, making him blush. After Andreas left, Helena walked over to her bar and poured herself some cherry. She sipped it slowly, contemplating Andreas. Though she didn?t like the thought of his lying to her, Andreas was her best employee yet. Perhaps she should give him the benefit of the doubt and trust him. Helena knew it was rare for her to trust anyone, but she would this time. And if she discovered that Andreas was indeed lying to her or even betraying her in any way, ?Well, that would be a shame, Helena whispered, stroking the letter opener sitting on the bar. Helena eyed its sharp point and shook her head, hoping that she was right and that Andreas could be trusted.
Nikolas looked up at the door of the apartment building where his sister was now living. It wasn't that he didn't like Jason Morgan, it was just that he didn't like that Jason Morgan was in the mob. His sister now lived guarded by bodyguards, and that disturbed Nikolas. He sighed & headed inside. Nikolas took the elevator up to the top floor & knocked on the door marked "PH 2". He nodded at the guard, Francis, in front of the door. After a moment, Jason answered the door. "Nikolas, come on in," he greeted formally. Aware of Nikolas's dislike of his profession, Jason found himself unable to relax around him. Nikolas entered & Jason shut the door behind him. "Athena's in the bedroom -- one minute & I'll get her," he said quickly, heading upstairs. Athena came downstairs a minute later, smiling from ear to ear at the sight of her older brother. "Nik!" she cried happily. "I wasn't expecting to see you today! What are you doing here? Is Stephanie okay?" Nikolas smiled. His wife of five months was four months pregnant, and Nikolas was waiting impatiently for the birth of the Cassadine heir. "She's fine. I'm here to talk to you about something I was hoping you & Kyra could help me with," he told Athena. Athena frowned curiously. "Let's sit down on the couch to talk then," she suggested. They sat & Athena stared at Nikolas. "What can I help you with?" she finally asked. "I was wondering if you & Kyra would help plan a baby shower for her. Mom already said she'd help, & I thought the three of you could do it together," said Nikolas. Athena sat considered this in silence, smiling. "That sounds like a good idea," she said slowly. "Is there supposed to be a catch somewhere?" "Yeah," Nikolas laughed. "You have to keep it a surprise for Steph." Athena pretended to punch her brother's shoulder. "Funny, Nik," she grinned. "Sounds good to me. Are you going to help by getting Steph to the shower?" Nikolas nodded. "That's my part in this -- and I'll provide the funds. Now, here's the other thing I need, and this is a project just for you & Kyra" Athena smiled. "All these favors, it may cost you, bro," she teased. It was Nikolas's turn to pretend to punch Athena's shoulder. "Kyra has excellent designing tastes & you are the sensible twin. I was hoping the two of you would take some money & decorate the baby's room as another surprise for Steph. I'll distract her while that's being done." Athena looked at her brother doubtfully. "Don't you think Steph would want to be involved in something like that?" she asked. Nikolas gazed at Athena. "I would think she'd love it," he said. Athena shrugged. "If you think so, then sure, I'll do it. But you'll have to ask Ky herself." "I was going to, but Uncle said she is staying at a friend's house for a few days," Nikolas told Athena. Athena couldn't hide the surprise from her face. "She didn't tell you either, huh?" Nikolas asked when he saw Athena's face. "Me neither. But Uncle says some friend had a breakup & Kyra went to offer support. I told him I'd ask her when she got back." Athena nodded, still not saying anything. Her mind was whirling, wondering where Kyra was. "Let me know, okay Nik?" asked Athena, distracted. "Sure, Thena," Nikolas answered, standing. "Tell Jason I said bye, okay?" Athena stood & nodded. Shutting the door after Nikolas left, Athena leaned against it with a sigh. What was her twin up to now?
Lucky entered the blues club his father owned called 'Luke's' and sat down on a stool at the bar. "A coke, please," he told Claude, Luke's manager. "Sure, Lucky," Claude smiled. "Your dad's in his office if you need him." Lucky nodded silently. Claude handed him the coke & Lucky headed towards Luke's office with his drink in his hand. "Come in!" called Luke in response to Lucky's knock. Lucky pushed the door open & smiled at his father. "Hey, Dad," he came in and sat down in a chair. "Hey, Cowboy," smiled Luke. "What's up?" "Remember at Christmas how I said I wanted to live with you?" began Lucky. Luke nodded. "What would you say if I tell you that I'm serious -- I do want to live with you?" Luke let out a long breath. "I'd have to ask why, Cowboy," he answered. Lucky frowned. "Does it really matter why?" he asked. "Yes, Lucky, it does. If you want to move in with me because you want to be with me, I?m game. But if you are moving in with me to escape your sisters --" "Half-sisters," Lucky cut Luke off with a sneer. "Half-sisters," Luke continued. "Then I?m not so game." Lucky glared at his father. "That's some method of support, Dad. I thought you couldn't stand them, either," he grumbled. Luke laughed. "Cowboy, how I feel about your mother's illegitimate children has nothing to do with you, nor should you feel the same way," he told his son. "I agree with your mother regarding your attitude towards those girls -- you shouldn't blame them for something that isn't their fault. And I don't want you to move in with me just because you don't like them. That's not fair to me." Lucky eyed his father angrily for a long moment & then stood and left the room, slamming the door behind him.
Chapter Nine
"Let me know if you change your mind," Andreas said, turning to look
at Kyra's profile beside him. They were flying to Las Vegas & Kyra
hadn't said much since they left the airport. "I won't," she said firmly,
turning to smile at Andreas. "I promise." Andreas laced his fingers through
hers & leaned back against the seat. He dozed soon after but woke when he
heard the announcement that they were getting ready to land. He squeezed
Kyra's hand tighter as they landed. They left the plane & grabbed their bags
from the terminal. Andreas flagged a cab & they were driven downtown to a
hotel with a wedding chapel in it. Kyra & Andreas registered as Mr. & Mrs.
Andropulous. Once they were in their room, Kyra sank down on the bed in
exhaustion. "My darling, I hate to leave you already, but I am going to get
some things & I'll be right back, okay? When I return, we'd better go & get
our license," Andreas told Kyra. Kyra nodded. "I have some shopping of my
own to do," she informed Andreas with a tired smile. Andreas kissed her &
left quickly. Kyra freshened up & headed down to find a wedding dress. She
bought a simple white dress with three quarter sleeves that fell to her
ankles. After that she went back to their hotel room to wait. Andreas
returned soon after and immediately got down on one knee. "Kyra Cassadine,"
he whispered, as a smile spread across her face. "Will you do me the honor
of becoming my wife?" Kyra pretended to hesitate & then nodded. "Yes,
Andreas, it would be my pleasure," she said softly. Andreas slid a large
diamond ring on Kyra's left ring finger. "Andreas," Kyra breathed. "My god,
it's beautiful." Tears filled her eyes slid down her cheeks. Andreas gently
wiped them away & kissed Kyra full on the lips. "I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too. Now, let's go get our license & get married," Kyra grinned.
Andreas laughed & Kyra went to get dressed. She left her dark hair down with
white barrettes pulling the sides back. She looked absolutely beautiful as
she came out of the bathroom & stared at Andreas. "I'm ready," she said.
Andreas's eyes bugged out as he stared at his fiancé. Kyra laughed.
"Andreas, please. I'm sure I don't look as good as all that." "You certainly
do," Andreas smiled. He held out his arm to her. "Mademoiselle?" Kyra took
his arm & they left their suite to go down to the chapel.
"I now pronounce you husband & wife," the minister said a short time
later. "You may kiss the bride," he added. Andreas grinned devilishly
& leaned over to kiss Kyra. They broke apart, smiling dumbly.
Thanking the minister, they headed back up to their room to celebrate their
first night of matrimonial bliss. Andreas ordered a romantic candlelight
dinner for two from room service. After supper Kyra took off her dress & put
on a sheer nightgown she had bought a few months ago in anticipation of a
night like this. Andreas almost keeled over when he saw her. He was clad in
a pair of boxers & he came over to take her in his arms. They began to make
love gently & slowly this time, savoring every touch, ever movement they
made. Kyra felt like this was their first time again, as she explored every
crevice on Andreas’s body. He in turn did things to her body that made her
shudder & cry out, almost screaming from the exquisite pleasure. Afterwards,
they dozed in each other's arms, only to wake up again & make love over &
over. Dawn came quickly, and they slept in after their night of passion.
Kyra woke first, feeling the sunlight kissing her face. She climbed
carefully out of bed, not wanting to wake Andreas. She stared down at the
diamond ring on her finger, and the gold wedding band in front of it. Kyra
was Mrs. Andreas Andropulous, and in less than eight months they'd have a
baby to show for their love.
Athena & Jason headed over to Laura's the morning after her talk with
Kyra. Jason had convinced Athena the best thing to do was tell Laura the
truth to warn him before Helena found out and possibly decided to get some
revenge. This way Laura could talk to Stefan with them & they
could decide what to do from there. Athena had figured out that Kyra
& Andreas had run away somewhere together. What she didn't know was whether
or not Kyra was coming back or if the two planned to permanently disappear.
She had left numerous messages on Kyra's cell phone, but had heard nothing
back. Athena nervously knocked on Laura's door. It opened a moment later to
a grim faced Lucky. "Hello, Lucky," Athena said quietly. "Is Mom home?"
Lucky's face softened slightly at the sight of Jason. "Come on in," was his
answer. Athena & Jason came
inside & shut the door. "I'll go get her. You can sit down if you'd
like," Lucky said. He disappeared & Laura came out a moment later.
"Athena! Jason!" smiled Laura. "How nice to see you! Can I get you
anything?" Athena hugged her mother. "Hi, Mom. No thanks.” “Nothing for me,
Laura, thank you,” Jason answered. Laura nodded and sat down on the chair
across from Athena & Jason. They sat down on the couch behind them. "What's
up?" Athena & Jason glanced at each other and Athena took a breath. Laura
caught the look. "What? What's wrong? Tell me," persisted Laura. Athena
opened her mouth. "Mom, I have some news for you, and it's not good. It has
to do with Kyra," she said. Laura steeled herself for the news. "Continue,"
Laura said. "Kyra is pregnant with Andreas's child, Mom," began Athena, but
Laura cut her off thinking that was all. "WHAT?!?" she shrieked. Athena
winced & Jason closed his eyes momentarily. "Laura, we'd like this to be
just between us right now, so if you don't mind keeping your voice down,"
Jason chastised gently. Laura nodded and relaxed her arms a little.
"Athena," she addressed her eldest daughter. "Are you sure?" "Yes, Mom. Kyra
has
been secretly seeing Andreas for over six months now. They're in love; I saw
it myself," sighed Athena, her eyes downcast. Laura looked towards the
heavens as if to ask God why He gave her such a trying child. "Why are you
choosing to tell me now?" Laura questioned, all of a sudden sensing there
was more. Again, Athena looked at Jason for support. "Because Kyra told
Uncle last night that she was going to a
friend's for a few days. I have a feeling that she ran off with
Andreas to get married. I wanted to tell you so we can tell Uncle &
decide what to do next. Obviously, when Helena finds out there will
be hell to pay," Athena explained. "So we wanted to try & head her off, if
you will." "Athena, why didn't you tell anyone sooner? How long have you
know about this?" Laura was insistent. "I've known she was seeing Andreas
since the beginning. I've known she's pregnant since last night," admitted
Athena. "And the reason I didn't tell anyone is because I promised her I
wouldn't. She's my twin," added Athena by way of explanation. "And that
makes it alright?" Laura scoffed. Athena leveled her eyes to her mother's.
"I don't think you, who hasn't contacted either of us in four weeks, should
stand in judgment of my twin sister who has never let me down." Laura reeled
as if she'd been slapped. "I'm sorr-" she began but Athena cut her off. "I
don't want to hear it, Laura. Aunt Lexi is there more than you are. But like
it or not you are our mother & Kyra needs us now. All of us," she said
firmly. Jason sat back against the couch with a hidden smile on his face. He
was darn proud of Athena; she finally stood up to Laura & told her how she
felt. Jason had been telling Athena for weeks that she should tell Laura how
she felt about having a non-existent mother. And now that she had, Jason
knew it would be a relief to her. Laura stared wordlessly at her daughter &
then nodded. "You're right. Let me get my coat & have Lucky watch Lesley Lu.
Then we'll go," she whispered. She left the room & Jason turned to Athena.
"That was wonderful, Thena. I am very proud of you," he hugged her. "I'm
just sorry it took Kyra's being in trouble to get my courage up," Athena
whispered. "Ready, Jase?" Jason nodded & stood up. Laura joined them and all
three of them headed out to Jason's car.
Alexis & Ned were sitting down at the docks, enjoying the peace &
quiet of the early morning. Ned had his fingers laced through
Alexis's, and was quietly discussing his plans for the day. "Sounds
like you'll be busy," commented Alexis. Ned shook his head. "To the
contrary, I probably won't get much done because I'll be too busy
thinking of you." Alexis smiled & opened her mouth to answer. "Such
devotion," a voice interrupted their conversation. Alexis & Ned
swiveled their heads to see Helena standing nearby. "Great," muttered
Alexis. "The wicked witch of the west has arrived." "That's hardly polite,
Natasha," Helena admonished. Alexis glared at Helena. "Hasn’t someone thrown
a pail of water on you yet?" she retorted. Helena stared back at Alexis
unwaveringly. "Really, Alexis, can’t you do better than that," Helena smiled
infuriatingly. "What do you want, Helena?" asked an irritated Ned. "I can
see that I am bothering you. I’ll leave now. Have a nice day, dears," with
that, Helena swept away. Alexis was fuming silently when Ned turned back to
her. "Whoa," he smiled. "Extinguish the smoke, Alexis, she's gone now."
Alexis took a few deep breaths to calm herself. "I don't know why she gets
to me so easily," she grumbled. Ned wrapped his arms around her. "Because
you let her." Resting her head against his chest, Alexis sighed. "You're
right, I do. But she's so annoying!" Ned chuckled. "You don't have to tell
me that, Alexis. But that's why Helena does what she does, because she knows
it will annoy you." "How did you get to be so smart?" Alexis asked with a
mock pout. Ned kissed her firmly on the lips. "I fell in love with you," he
whispered, his dimples showing from his wide grin.
Chapter Ten
Andreas woke up & saw Kyra standing by the window looking out. This
was their sixth day as husband & wife, and their last day in Vegas.
It was time to head home, Andreas had told Kyra the evening before.
Although Kyra didn't want to go back yet, she knew Andreas was right
-- it was time to face the music. Andreas climbed out of bed now to
take his wife in his arms. "Good morning," he whispered, dropping a
kiss on her neck. The gesture sent a shiver down Kyra's spine.
"Mmmmm, that feels nice," she said softly. Turning in his arms, Kyra
gave Andreas a good morning kiss. It was incredible how well Kyra &
Andreas got along. Kyra marveled at times the way they seemed to be
so in tune to each other. "I was waiting for you to wake up so we could
shower together," Kyra teased with a smile. Wordlessly, Andreas scooped her
up & carried her into the bathroom. "Your wish is my command," Andreas said.
Kyra started the shower & they washed each other's bodies, arousing
themselves by the intimacy they were sharing. They made love quickly, both
caught up in each other. During the last six days, Kyra & Andreas had
explored each other's bodies, getting to know every curve, every tickle
spot. Once they were out of the shower, they dressed & ate breakfast. Kyra
decided to have a plate of fresh fruit that morning, something Andreas
teased her about. “What are you, an animal? You’re supposed to eat food with
sustenance,” he teased. Kyra pretended to look offended. “What, like your
breakfast?” she gestured to Andreas’s plate of bacon, eggs, toast & hash
browns. “You got it,” Andreas answered with a laugh. After breakfast Kyra
packed quietly, dreading returning to Port Charles. Once she was done, she
turned to Andreas. "Ready?" she asked softly. Andreas nodded, lifting the
bags over his shoulder and putting one arm around Kyra's waist. "Let's go,"
he said, escorting her out of the room.
Athena was sitting in the penthouse staring out a window, feeling
incredibly shaken by the events of the last five days. She thought
back to the conversation in her Uncle's office where she, Laura &
Jason had told Stefan the truth about Kyra and Andreas.
"EXCUSE ME!?!" Stefan had bellowed. Athena winced as she sat in the
chair, Jason standing behind her for support. Laura had risen from
her chair to try & calm Stefan down. Her quiet move only proved to
infuriate Stefan that much more. Athena had never seen Stefan so
livid. "Is she crazy? Helena will kill her! I'll kill her!" Stefan
ranted. "Uncle," Athena's soft voice interrupted Stefan's tantrum
momentarily. "Kyra & Andreas are in love, don't blame them for that.
Blame Helena for putting them into the position where they have to hide."
Stefan was momentarily stumped. Laura sat down, hiding a
smile. Athena was the wise one in the family, the one with the most
sense & logic. "While you are right, Athena," Stefan began. "I have
to say that both you & Kyra used poor judgment by not saying
anything to me earlier." "And what would you have done, Uncle?"
countered Athena. "Forbidden them to see each other? Lock Kyra in her
room? That wouldn't have solved anything. I shouldn't have to remind
you what it's like to fall in love with someone who is forbidden."
Athena's words hung in the air for a moment while Stefan & Laura eyed
each other. "She's right, Stefan. You can't blame Kyra & Andreas for falling
in love anymore than you can blame us for falling in love in Greece," Laura
spoke softly. "The hell I can't," Stefan shouted, making everyone jump. "I
blame Kyra for keeping this a secret. I blame you as well, Athena. And
you're lucky you aren't living at home anymore or I would lock you up, as
you put it." Athena looked horrified. "When Kyra gets home, she too will be
locked up & she'd better hope I don't throw away the key," added Stefan.
Athena moved away from the window & sat down on the couch, recalling
how the rest of the conversation had been Laura & Athena vs Stefan.
Jason hadn't said one word the entire conversation, he had only
rubbed Athena's shoulders for support at times. Athena had left
Stefan's office in tears, telling her Uncle she hated him & she hoped
Kyra never come home. Laura had left angry as well, accusing Stefan
of not loving the twins because they weren't his own children. Stefan
had retorted that he was more of a parent than Laura was. Athena
shuddered, remembering the look on her mother's face. A lone tear ran
down Athena's face as she hugged a pillow from the couch against her,
praying everything would work out, for everyone’s sake.
All the way home, Kyra & Andreas discussed who to go see first. "I think we
should go to Athena," Kyra finally said. "She can tell us
anything we may need to know before we confront Helena or Stefan."
Andreas considered the suggestion & nodded. "Alright, Kyra," he
smiled over at her as they were driving back to Port Charles from the
airport. "Let's go see your twin sister." They fell into complete silence,
deep in thought, until Andreas pulled up to Jason's building. He helped his
wife out of the car & the two headed up to the penthouse.
Kyra knocked on the door when they arrived, nervous about what Athena’s
reaction would be to her. Kyra had checked cell phone that morning and had
received all of Athena’s messages from the last few days. Kyra had long
since figured out that Athena was aware that Kyra had run away with Andreas
to get married. Athena’s messages had sounded hurt, angry & upset – and now
Kyra was worried her sister wouldn’t forgive her for leaving without saying
anything & without contacting her.
Kyra’s whole world was upside down now. As much as she loved Andreas, Kyra
knew that she had to face Nikolas, Stefan, Laura & Helena now. Life was
certain to get worse before it got better. Jason answered the door & stared
wordlessly at Kyra. Kyra met his eyes, never wavering. Finally, Jason held
out his arms & Kyra flew into them, laying her head on his shoulder as she
began to cry. "Jase," she sobbed. "I hope you're ready for this, Ky," he
whispered. "You've got a big fight ahead of you." Kyra backed out of his
arms & took Andreas's hand. "Andreas, you know Jason, right? Jase, my new
husband," Kyra smiled through her tears. Jason smiled as well & shook
Andreas's free hand. "You two are always welcome here," Jason said before
moving out of the doorway to let them in. "Athena!" Jason called. "Kyra's
here!"
Athena bounded down the stairs a moment later, stopping two inches in
front of her twin. "Ky," she whispered, then threw her arms around
her sister. "You did it, didn't you?" Athena asked once she pulled
away. "I'm married," answered Kyra, holding out her left hand. Athena stayed
silent for a moment, eyeing the diamond ring & then hugged her twin again.
"Congratulations," she whispered. Then Athena turned to Andreas. "Welcome to
the family," she choked out. Andreas gently touched her shoulder. "You don't
know much that means to me, Athena." Athena nodded & turned back to her
sister. "I think you should come & sit down so I can explain everything to
you," Athena said softly. Kyra nodded followed Athena over to the couch.
Stefan was pacing his office at Wyndemere, hollering at anyone who
got in his way. He had never seen it coming. And yet, he felt like he
should have. Kyra & Andreas? Married? A baby? Helena would try
something once she found out. Stefan was determined to prevent that
from happening. A soft knock came at the door. "WHAT!?!" Stefan
yelled. Helena walked in, covering her ears. "Really, Stefan, do you
need to yell? If you're having a bad day, don't take it out on the
rest of us," she admonished. Stefan rolled his eyes. "Mother, just
whom I wanted to see," he sighed. "I'm aware of that. So, what was
the reason for my being ordered to come see you?" Helena asked. "No
one ordered you, Mother. I merely asked to see you," corrected
Stefan. "Whatever. What do you want?" Helena snapped. "I don't have
time to play polite." "I don't expect you to be polite," Stefan
smirked. "I asked you here to discuss a business deal with you," Stefan
began. "I found out some information I know you will not like, nor do I. But
I thought we could make a deal to which we will both sign legal papers to."
Helena looked surprised. "It must be serious if you are asking me to sign
legal papers," Helena surmised. "What does it have to do with?" "Whom is
more like it. Andreas," answered Stefan. Helena frowned. "What does this
meeting have to do with Andreas?" she demanded to know. "That's for me to
know & you to find out when the time is right, Mother," Stefan smiled
mysteriously. That infuriated Helena. "What do you want from me?" asked
Helena. "Legal papers giving away total rights or control to the Cassadine
Empire, and your guarantee that you will stay away from Nikolas, the twins &
any spouses or children they may have. The papers also keep you away from
Lesley Lu Spencer & any husband or children she may have. If you go near
them or try to take back any money from the Cassadine Empire, the penalty is
death. All of which you sign & agree to," Stefan answered with a smug look.
Helena laughed. "Now, why would I agree to something as foolish as that?"
she asked. "Because you want to know what Andreas is up to," said Stefan. "I
can just ask him," Helena said. Stefan shook his head. "No you can't because
I know where he is & you don't. And if you don't agree, I'll see to it you
don't see him until you sign the papers," Stefan smiled slyly. Helena was
momentarily defeated. Just as Stefan thought he had beaten her, she whirled
around & left.
Alexis knocked on Laura's door, sighing to herself. She reminded
herself that she wouldn't do this for anyone other than Nikolas, Kyra
& Athena. When Athena had come to her the day before to relate the events of
the last five days, Alexis had been aghast. Her immediate reaction was to do
something to help Kyra. It was one of the reasons Alexis had decided to come
& see Laura today. To Alexis's surprise, Luke answered the door with Lesley
Lu. They were obviously leaving. "Natasha!" exclaimed Luke with surprise. "I
certainly didn't expect to see you here." "That goes double for me," Alexis
muttered wryly.
The history between Alexis & Luke and Alexis & Laura was shaky at
best. Alexis had tried to keep the truth about her bloodline to the
Cassadines a secret, having been threatened by Helena not to reveal to
anyone that she was the ‘bastard’ daughter of Helena’s husband. Luke had
been one of the first to discover the truth about Alexis's parentage & ties
to them. He had used that information to his advantage, blackmailing Alexis
to help him with some of his schemes. It was one of the reasons he still
called her Natasha, her given name. They had remained civil after the truth
had come out, but certainly weren't friendly. As for Alexis & Laura, they
were barely on speaking terms because of Stefan. Tired of Laura's treatment
of her brother, Alexis had verbally attacked Laura one day for leading
Stefan on while coveting after Luke as well. Laura hadn't been too
appreciative of Alexis's input, and the two had been on rocky grounds ever
since. Alexis still disliked Laura for her treatment of Stefan, and Laura
disliked Alexis for her judgment of Laura.
Alexis smiled down at Lesley Lu now, knots forming in her stomach at
having to deal with both Luke & Laura today. "Are you taking your
daddy somewhere, Lulu?" she asked the little girl. Lulu smiled,
chewing on a pigtail. "Yes," she said softly. Lulu was very shy. "Daddy & I
are going ice skating & then out for supper." Her dark eyes shone with
excitement. "That sounds like lots of fun!" Alexis grinned. "There's not too
much time left to go ice skating, is there?" Lesley Lu shook her head. "No,
Mommy said soon it will be spring," she said. It was the beginning of
February, one month until spring. "You're Mommy is right, Lulu. What do you
& Daddy do in the spring when you can't skate?" asked Alexis. "We go
fishing," Lulu answered. "Lulu is the best fisher you'll ever meet," Luke
interjected proudly. "But we've got to go, darlin', or it'll be to late to
go skating." He glanced at Alexis. "Are you here to see Laura?" "Yes, is she
home?" Alexis asked. Luke nodded & poked his head inside. "LAURA!" he
called. "You have a visitor!" Luke turned back to Alexis. "See you, Natasha.
Lulu,
say goodbye to Ms. Davis," he added, nudging Lulu. "Goodbye, Ms.
Davis," Lulu said, walking down the walkway to her father's car.
"Bye, Lulu!" Alexis called as she waited for Laura to come to the
door. "What do you want?" snapped an irritated voice behind her.
Alexis whirled around to see Laura standing in the doorway frowning.
"Better watch your face doesn't freeze like that," remarked Alexis,
striding by Laura into the house. "Please, come in," Laura said
sarcastically, shutting the door behind Alexis. "Thanks, I will,"
Alexis sat down on the couch. "I'll make myself comfortable too."
Laura smirked at Alexis & came over to sit on a nearby chair. "What
do you want, Alexis?" she asked. "Tsk, tsk," Alexis shook her finger
at Laura. "That's no way to talk to the only aunt of your daughters &
son." Laura rolled her eyes. Alexis really got on her nerves
sometimes. "Just get to the point," she said icily. Alexis smiled, it
was time to get to the point of her visit. "I came because I have
heard Kyra & Andreas are back in town. Stefan doesn't know yet, and I
thought maybe.. " Alexis trailed off & sighed. "Look, Laura, I know
you don't like me & I'm not very fond of you either. But we both care
about Kyra a lot, and I thought we could support her as she faced
Stefan. He is still very angry & I'd hate for her to have to face his
wrath alone." Laura softened a bit at the tone in Alexis's voice. She
knew Alexis cared about Kyra & Athena a lot, and had been there for
them at time when Laura couldn't. She'd never admit it to Alexis, but
Laura was grateful for that. "Do you know where they are?" she asked
Alexis. "Ned saw them heading inside Athena & Jason's apartment
building," Alexis answered. Laura nodded. "That figures -- the twins
are so close. Alright, Alexis, let's go. For Kyra," Laura added,
standing. Alexis rose as well. "For Kyra," she repeated.
"I'm sorry for everything I've put you through, Thena," Kyra said
tiredly, curled up on her sister's couch with a cup of tea in her
hands. Andreas was sitting behind her, with Kyra leaning against him.
Jason & Athena sat on the opposite couch. "You're never a problem,
Ky," Athena said sincerely. "I was just so worried about you. I'm
happy for you two, but I wonder what's going to happen next, you
know?" Kyra nodded. "I know one thing, Athena. Helena can't stop my
love for Andreas, or change the fact that I am his wife. She can't
take this baby away from me either," Kyra said firmly. Andreas wrapped both
arms around Kyra & dropped a kiss on the top of her head. "We're in this
together, for the long haul," he reiterated. Jason smiled at the obvious
love between them. "I don't envy you the fight ahead," he began. "But I wish
you all the best. If you two ever need anything, Athena & I are here." "That
means a lot to both of us, Jason," Andreas spoke up. Kyra was so filled with
emotions; she was at a loss for words. "Ky," Athena jumped up. "Why don't we
go up to the guest room & you can rest for awhile? I'll sit with you and
tell you all I plan to do with my niece or nephew." Kyra smiled weakly.
"Okay, Thena. Let's go," Kyra kissed Andreas & stood up. Athena led her
upstairs, leaving Andreas & Jason alone. Jason turned to Andreas as soon as
the women left the room. "I've hired bodyguards for the both of you," he
told Andreas. Andreas looked surprised. "There's no need for that, Jason,"
he began politely. Jason cut him off with a wave of his hand. "Athena asked
me to do it, and I did. There is no taking them back, buddy. Sorry, but I
never break my word, and Athena wants you & Kyra safe from Helena." Andreas
nodded and sat back on the couch. He had a lot to think about. A weary
silence filled the air as both men contemplated the future. |
