Chapter Sixteen
An hour after they left Port Charles Kyra, Athena, Jason & Andreas reached their destination; a cottage deep in the woods with no civilization around for miles. Kyra was totally exhausted from all the stress of the night and from the drive. They had stopped at an all night grocery store along the way for supplies. While the girls stayed in the car, Andreas & Jason had went inside and bought bags of food, cleaning supplies & other necessities to last them for at least two weeks. During that time, Jason & Andreas would return with more supplies. Their bodyguard Rick was planning to stay in a trailer outside the cottage and he left just after everyone else and was planning to stop to get his own things on the way as well.
Andreas helped Kyra & Athena out of the car while Jason went to unlock the cottage and make sure it was secure. They all grabbed bags & suitcases while they waited for Jason. When he came back out, he motioned them inside with a finger to his lips reminding them to be quiet. Kyra & Athena went to their respective rooms to unpack; Jason & Andreas brought their groceries and supplies in. For an hour they worked silently, unpacking and storing everything. Finally they met in the living room. Jason spoke first, "Andreas & I have to leave tonight so as not to look suspicious." Andreas noticed Kyra's face fall and he put his arms around her, "We'll be back, my love. I promise you that. Somehow I'll find a way to get back here and see you." Kyra buried her face in her husband's chest as the tears fell. Jason & Athena glanced at each other. Athena wanted to be strong for Kyra's sake, but she was nervous and was going to miss Jason as well. "Jase," she whispered, touching his cheek. "Please be careful. Can you guys call us? Write to us?" Jason looked pensive. "We can call you on your cell phones since they're not traceable. As for writing to you, I'll let you know. Take care of your sister, Athena. Rick is here if you both need anything," he added, taking Athena in his arms for a tight hug. Jason lowered his head for a lingering kiss and then released Athena. "I'll wait in the car," Jason said to Andreas. Athena walked Jason out to give the couple some privacy.
Andreas tipped Kyra's chin up to meet his eyes. "Kyra Andropulous," he whispered fiercely. "I love you and I will take care of you. I promised you that when I married you and I never break my word. Just be strong and remember I love you." Kyra believed him with her whole heart and she wiped her eyes with a small smile. "I'll remember that if you remember that I love you so very much," she said hoarsely. And if you promise to call and come see me whenever you can, as much as you can." "That's a promise," Andreas said, bending his head towards hers. "Let's seal it with a kiss." Their lips met for the tenderest kiss Kyra had ever experienced in her life. "It's probably better if I leave & you stay here," Andreas said after he broke the kiss. Kyra nodded, her eyes downcast. "I love you and our child, Kyra," Andreas added as he released her and began to walk away. "I'll call you tomorrow if I can." With that, he disappeared and Kyra sank onto the couch with a groan of absolute misery & sadness.
Alexis arrived at Wyndemere trembling with nervousness. That morning she'd called Laura & Stefan and asked for a meeting at Wyndemere at once. "It's of the utmost importance," she'd implored them both. "And absolute secrecy," she'd added as an afterthought. They'd agreed and now Alexis was standing just outside the door, having to deliver news that would distress them both. Mrs. Landsbury opened the door immediately at her knock and escorted Alexis to Stefan's office where he & Laura were waiting. Alexis had purposely shown up a few minutes late so Stefan couldn't question her before Laura arrived. Stefan glared at her icily when she entered the room. "I'll thank you to arrive on time when you call a meeting that is so important, Alexis," he said snidely. Ignoring him, Alexis sat down in the chair beside Laura. "Athena called me last night," Alexis go right to the point, seeing no reason to waste time with polite hellos. "I will tell you both what she said but before I do you must both promise me that this matter will be kept totally a secret and that you both will stay out of it. It is being handled and the only reason Athena wants either of you to know is because you're family," she eyed them both sternly. "If that's what Athena wants," Laura nodded at Alexis, perplexed. Both women looked at Stefan who sat angrily behind his desk. He hated being controlled or being told what to do. "Fine," he said stiffly after a moment's pause. "I mean it, Stefan," warned Alexis. Stefan slammed a fist down on his desk, "I said fine, Alexis. Or are you deaf?" Not fazed in the least by Stefan's attitude, Alexis smiled. "Good. I'll continue then. Helena knows that Kyra is pregnant and that Andreas is her baby's father and is planning to get revenge on Kyra for lying to her," Alexis informed them. "Jason & Andreas took both girls away last night to some remote place that only they know about until they can 'take care' of Helena. The girls are safe, but Athena wanted you to know so you won't worry." Stefan's eyes grew darker and darker by the second. Alexis & Laura were both watching him and could almost see the smoke coming out of his ears. "DAMN HER," he finally shouted. Laura winced, but she was angry as well. "Stefan," she began in her soft voice. "Don't you say a word, Laura," he warned. "I just want to say this now. I warned your daughter about the consequences of crossing Helena. I warned her! But did she listen? No, and now look where it's gotten her. Kyra & her baby are in grave danger," he ranted. Alexis cut him off, "Calm down before you have a coronary, Stefan. If you are really concerned for Kyra, then contact Jason Morgan and see what you can do to help him overpower Helena." Stefan laughed sarcastically. "Let's be honest here, ladies," he said smoothly, covering his anger for a brief moment. "When it comes to my mother, the only way to 'overpower' her is to kill her." All three were silent as Stefan's words sank in. "Alexis?" Laura turned her head. "How did Helena find out? Do you know?" Alexis met Laura's eyes levelly, "Lucky told her." Laura reeled and then shook her head. "It couldn't have been. He'd never do that to his sister," she whispered. "He can and he would, Laura," Stefan thundered, enraged even more. "That son of yours might cost your daughter her life! Thank god I didn't let you raise the twins so they won't turn out like him." Laura's hand clapped against Stefan's cheek so hard it sounded like a clap of thunder. Stefan drew away from her, shocked into silence. Even Alexis was surprised at the force of Laura's slap. "Don't you EVER say anything like that to me again," Laura's voice was cold and filled with fury. "I did nothing wrong when I raised Lucky, nor would I have done anything wrong if I had raised *my* daughters. I was robbed of that chance by your mother & I'll thank you to remember that." A long silence filled the air. "Alright, we're not here to attack each other or to attack Kyra. We're here to support each other and the children. Somehow we have to figure out how to stop Helena and I think the more heads the better. With your permission, I'd like to call Jason and have him come meet us here to talk," Alexis said quietly. Laura & Stefan were still glaring at each other. Laura softened first, "Call Jason." Alexis nodded and picked up the phone.
Jason & Andreas were sitting in his office at the penthouse discussing their plan to kill Helena. Andreas had stayed at the penthouse the night before because that day was his day off and he didn't feel like facing Helena after having hidden Kyra. He knew he'd have to that night, but for the moment he all he wanted was to stay away from her. "I knew we should've done it two months ago," muttered Andreas, berating himself for being stupid enough to trust Helena even slightly. "This is not the time for pity, Andreas," Jason said firmly. "It's time to figure out how to keep the women we love safe." Andreas nodded and sat back in his chair. He clasped his hands together and pressed them to his forehead with a sigh. "So what next, Jason?" he asked, his mind spinning with ideas. "What's the most efficient way to kill Helena?" The ringing of the phone interrupted them. Jason answered it, "Hello? Hi, Alexis." Andreas managed a small smile when he heard who it was. Jason had told him of Athena's request that Alexis tell Stefan & Laura what happened. He didn't envy her; he was sure Stefan's reaction must have been loud and fierce. "The less who know what is happening the better," Jason was telling Alexis. He paused to listen, "I don't care what Stefan wants. My only concerns are those girls and their safety. Tell Stefan to sit there and wait. If I need any help from the three of you, I'll call you." Andreas nodded in agreement, even thought Alexis couldn't see him. "Fine, Alexis. I'll keep in touch so you at least know what's happening....... Yes, they have their cell phones if you want to call them....... No, they won't tell Stefan anything. Alexis, tell him to stop yelling in the background," Jason shot an exasperated look at Andreas who couldn't help but smile. He could imagine Stefan shouting and arguing. He hated being powerless and someone else being in control. "No matter how much Stefan pressures them, they will not tell him where they are.... Fine, if he doesn't believe me, let him try it..... Alexis, I have to go. I'll talk to you later. Bye," Jason hung up and rolled his eyes. "Stefan is being his usual charming self, am I right?" Andreas grinned at Jason. Jason returned his grin as he relaxed in his chair, "Yeah, something like that." Their grins faded as their thoughts returned to the matter at hand. "Basically we have to set Helena up so she's in a remote place by herself and have her killed there by a couple henchmen," Jason stated thoughtfully. Andreas nodded, "So all we have to do s figure out how to set her up without her realizing it." Bending their heads, they began to talk animatedly about different ideas, piecing a plan together bit by bit.
Kyra woke up the next morning to a knock at her door. She groaned as she glanced at the clock beside the bed. It read nine twelve. Kyra had slept fitfully the night before, jumping every time she'd heard a sound. She'd been convinced that Helena had found her and was going to kill her & her baby. Panicked, Kyra had lay awake for a good part of the night. She finally fell asleep just before dawn, clutching the panda Andreas had given her close to her.
"Come in," she croaked now, rubbing her eyes to get the sleep out of them. The knob turned and Athena poked her head through the door, "Wake up, sleepyhead. I brought you some breakfast." Athena carried a tray over to Kyra. Kyra struggled into a sitting position against her pillows and laid back. Athena set the tray down and Kyra smiled. "You didn't have to do this, Thena," Kyra said gratefully to her twin. On the tray was a steaming mug of coffee, a glass of juice and a plate of toast and scrambled eggs. "I know I didn't but I figured you probably hadn't gotten a lot of sleep last night and would need a full breakfast to retain your strength," Athena said quietly, pulling a chair close to the bed so she could talk to her sister while Kyra ate. Kyra took a gulp of her juice and a bite of her eggs. She was starving after the stress of the day before. "Did you sleep well?" Kyra asked her twin. "Not really," Athena confessed. "My mind was on you too much. I heard you moving around and couldn't sleep." Kyra smiled, thinking how lucky she was to have such a wonderful twin sister. "I don't deserve a sister like you," she said huskily. Athena tried to lighten the mood for her, "Sure you do, everybody deserves such a wonderful person like me." Athena was rewarded with a weak grin. "When you're done breakfast Rick said he'd accompany us on a walk. Feel up to it?" Athena asked, watching her sister gobble up her breakfast. "Sure," Kyra answered, her mouth full. She swallowed and grinned. "I brought some books to read later." Athena raised her eyebrows. "You? Brought books to read?" she gasped in pretended shock. Kyra narrowed her eyes and then took a bite of toast. "Yes, me. You're not the only twin who can read," she said teasingly. "I also brought a whole bag of art supplies and movies." Athena stood up and replaced the chair to its original position. "Perfect. We'll watch movies later and eat lots of junk food. I'll go clean up while you get ready, okay?" Athena took the empty tray from Kyra, leaving her only the coffee, which was still left. "See you shortly," Athena said as she shut the door behind her. Kyra drank her coffee as she stared out the window at her peaceful surroundings. There was a lake at the edge of the property, though it was still a little cool to swim. The April sun was shining brightly in the sky, making the water sparkle. Kyra finished her coffee and then headed for the shower. Toweling herself dry afterwards, she considered her wardrobe. Andreas had given her a few of his shirts, sweaters & jogging pants when Kyra was packing and Kyra pulled one of his shirts out of the closet to wear that day. She knew it'd make her feel closer to him. Kyra pulled on some loose jeans and then the shirt, knotting it just below the zipper of her jeans so it wasn't quite so loose. Thought she had gained some weight thus far, Andreas's shirt was still too big for her. Kyra then brushed her hair and fit a headband on her head to hold it back out of her face. She slid her socked feet into a pair of sneakers and tied the laces. Done, the opened the door and went to find Athena.
Chapter Seventeen
Laura left Wyndemere after calming Stefan down enough so that he agreed to back off for now and let Jason carry out his plan. "But he'd better keep me up to date," Stefan growled, glaring ferociously out the window. "Or else I will take matters into my own hands." Alexis had breathed a sigh of relief, Laura remembered. 'Thank you,' Laura whispered to the sky as she rode the launch back into town. Once in town she decided to confront her son, who was living with his father above Luke's. When Laura arrived she asked Claude where Lucky was. "In Luke's office, Laura," the assistant manager grinned at her. "Thanks, Claude," she replied softly. Laura walked down the hall and slammed open Luke's office door. Lucky & Luke both jumped at the fierce sound and the angry look on Laura's face. "Laura," Luke was so surprised that he couldn't utter a single word, which was unlike him. Laura gazed at her ex-husband briefly before focusing her glare on her son. "I don't even know what to say to you, Lucky. I thought I raised you better than that," Laura's eyes were full of unshed tears and Luke had never seen her so hurt. "What are you talking about, Laura?" Luke asked gently, not wanting to set her off. Laura tore her gaze away from Luke and settled it on Luke. "Our son," Laura's look returned to Lucky, "found out some information that was none of his business." Laura emphasized that part. "Then your son," Laura looked back at Luke, tears beginning to fall, "went and told the news to Helena who is now plotting to kill my daughter." Luke gasped and Lucky had the grace to lower his eyes to the ground in embarrassment. But Laura knew better, "Ashamed that you've been caught, Lucky? Because you're certainly not ashamed of what you did." Luke looked over at his son as well. "Cowboy, did you do what your mom said you did? Did you purposely go to that witch intending on making her do something to your sister?" he asked quietly. "YES," Lucky finally burst out. "Dad, Kyra has been sneaking around with Andreas since August; she's four months pregnant with his bastard!" he exclaimed. "Why should I keep it quiet? What's she ever done for me?" Luke noticed that Laura was about to explode and he spoke quickly, calmly, "Lucas Spencer you know better than that. Kyra has done NOTHING to you; nor has Andreas even. If you have a problem with their existence, it is not their fault anymore than it is your fault that you were conceived." Luke glanced sternly at his son. Lucky held his stare, not flinching. All of a sudden Laura hauled off and slapped her son, hard. "I should really hurt you, the way you're letting your childishness hurt Kyra. Do you realize that thanks to you Helena plans to hurt her & the baby, Lucky?" Laura hissed at him. Lucky finally had the grace to look a little ashamed at what he had done. "I didn't intend for Helena to hurt Kyra," Lucky said softly. Laura laughed sarcastically, "What did you think she was going to do, Lucky? Smile and say that's nice? You're not that stupid." Luke was surprised with the viciousness Laura was using on Lucky, but he understood. Lucky had gone too far this time and if it had been Lulu who was in danger, Luke knew he'd kill Lucky, not just slap him. "I'm sorry, Mom," Lucky whispered. "Sorry is not going to cut it, Lucky. I don't want to see you or hear from you until this whole mess is resolved," Laura spat out. Her anger was so great that she was visibly shaking. "You are not to come near Lulu either unless she is with your father. Do you understand?" Lucky looked down and nodded, hiding his face so his parents couldn't see the tears glistening in his eyes. Lucky hadn't really thought it through when he had gone to see Helena about Kyra & Andreas. He knew now he was terribly wrong and he just hoped Helena wouldn't hurt Kyra or the baby. "Is there anything I can do?" Lucky asked, almost inaudibly. Laura's mouth dropped open, "Are you kidding me? You want to know if there's anything you can do? I think you've done enough, Lucky, thanks." Laura turned to leave and then turned back momentarily as a thought hit her. "There's one thing you can do, Lucky," she said with a weird smile on her face. "What's that?" he asked. "Pray that nothing happens. Because if something does, it'll be on your conscience," she said as she left, slamming the door behind her. Lucky shuddered at the sound and let a tear slide down his cheek. Luke sat silently, not saying a word. "I know you must hate me, Dad," Lucky muttered. "Don't try for pity, Cowboy," Luke said firmly. "You did something very wrong and now you have to deal with it. I'm certainly not going to try to make you feel better about it." Lucky glared at his father. "Thanks for your support," he said sarcastically. Luke leaned forward, "I won't EVER support someone who intentionally kills someone. Especially when that someone is pregnant, Lucky. You may not be the one to physically kill Kyra, but if something happens to her you're just as responsible as whoever does." Lucky stood up and silently left the room, trying not to hear his father's words.
Kyra curled up on the couch after supper to read a romance novel she had brought with her. It had been a pleasant but tiring day; Kyra & Athena had gone for two long walks and had gone for a boat ride late in the afternoon. Then Kyra had cooked supper for them and managed to convince Rick to join them. Now she was settling down to read before turning in for the night; Athena was cleaning up the kitchen. Kyra got so involved in her novel that when her cell phone rang she almost jumped out of her skin. "H..h.ello?" she stammered as she answered, her heart pounding. "Kyra? Are you okay?" Andreas's voice sounded panicked at the fear in her voice. Kyra laughed, "I was just reading, Andreas. The phone startled me. Everything's fine." Andreas breathed a sigh of relief. "You sounded scared so I panicked. Sorry," Andreas said sheepishly. Kyra laid her book down on the table to focus on Andreas. "How has your day been?" she asked softly. Andreas filled her in on Jason's phone call with Alexis and their meeting afterwards. "Sounds like my uncle is being his usual charming self," Kyra remarked with a smirk. Andreas chuckled, "Sounds like it. How was your day?" "Athena and I took some walks and went for a boat ride. Then I cooked supper for Rick & the two of us. After Thena's done cleaning up, we're going to watch a movie and then go to bed," Kyra answered. "Pretty uneventful," she added with a sigh. Andreas knew immediately what she meant and felt sorry for her. "I'm sorry, love," he whispered. "I know you hate being there, but just try to work through it for now, okay?" "When are you coming to see me?" Kyra asked petulantly. Andreas laughed softly, "I will be out there tomorrow night, my love, and I can stay for three whole days." "Really?" Kyra's eyes lit up. "I returned to the yacht earlier today and found a note that stated Helena was gone for five days. She left some instructions of things for me to take care off & then I'm off until she returns," Andreas explained. "You don't think it's a trap, do you? To lead you to me?" Kyra asked nervously. "Even if it is, Jason has agreed to get me up to see you," Andreas assured his wife. "I promised you, remember? I may even be there tomorrow afternoon, depending on when I get this stuff done and depending on Jason." Kyra smiled, pleased. "Is Jason coming too?" she asked. Andreas frowned momentarily, "I'm not sure. Perhaps he will, to surprise Athena." He checked his watch; he had a lot of things to do if he wanted to go visit Kyra the next day so he had to get going. "I have to hang up, Kyra," he told her gently. "If you want to see me tomorrow." "I do so I'll hang up graciously," Kyra laughed. "I love you very much, Andreas." Andreas smiled, "I love you too, my beautiful wife. See you tomorrow. Sweet dreams." "Sweet dreams," she echoed and then hung up. Wrapping her arms around herself, Kyra smiled with joy. She couldn't wait for tomorrow night to arrive so she could see her husband again.
Stefan sat in his office late that night, alone with his thoughts. Nikolas & Stephanie had been out earlier that day when Alexis & Laura had been there. Stefan had been so angry after the meeting, he had remained in his office for the remainder of the day and evening. Stefan knew Stephanie was now sleeping but Nikolas was in the den reading the paper. He rose and headed to the den, his face stony. Nikolas looked up as he entered, groaning inwardly at the look on Stefan's face. "What is it, Uncle?" he asked wearily. "I came to bring you some news of your sister," Stefan said formally. Nikolas smiled, "Really? I called her earlier to see how she was feeling and there was no answer. How is she?" Stefan rolled his eyes in disgust. "Kyra & Athena are away in hiding, Nikolas," Stefan informed his nephew. "Lucky told Helena about Kyra & Andreas. Andreas overheard Helena plotting something against Helena so he & Athena's mob boyfriend spirited the twins out of town." Nikolas's face was a picture of shock. "I have been told to stay out of the matter and let Jason & Andreas handle it. Can you believe that?" Stefan smirked. Nikolas regained his speech, "Uncle, you do as Jason asks. My twin sisters? lives are on the line here and if Jason's got something planned, they'll be fine. As long as you don't interfere." Stefan almost groaned out loud, "What, has he brainwashed you too? What makes you think some hooligan can protect your sisters better than I can?" "Because he loves Athena & adores Kyra," Nikolas said quietly. "I've seem him protect them before and I trust him now. How did my brother find out about them, Uncle?" Stefan smiled venomously, "I don't know, but he'd better pray I don't see him until the twins are safe or he'll regret it." Nikolas nodded, feeling incredibly disappointed in Lucky. While Nikolas knew Lucky hated the twins, he'd figured that since they were so close Lucky would never put anyone that Nikolas loved in danger. Nikolas was only sorry that he had to find out the hard way that he was wrong. "Please downplay this to Stephanie, Nikolas," Stefan said. "We'd like to keep this a secret so Helena doesn't suspect that we're on to her." Nikolas nodded, "I will, Uncle. Go to bed now. You're not going to do the twins any good if you wear yourself out worrying. Do they have their cell phones?" Stefan nodded. "Then why don't you call them tomorrow and tell them you love them and miss them?" Nikolas suggested with a smile. Stefan was acting tough and angry, but deep down Nikolas knew that stemmed from his fear for the twins' lives. "Mind your own business," Stefan said sternly, but his eyes seemed a little lighter. Nikolas set down the paper and rose, "Good night, Uncle." Stefan smiled, "Good night, Nikolas. Thanks." Nikolas returned his smile, "Your welcome." He left the room, leaving Stefan to ponder his words.
Chapter Eighteen
Kyra was lying on a lounge chair in the back of the cottage, soaking up some sun. Athena was inside reading after their quiet breakfast that morning. Kyra had chosen to lie in the sun and try to get some life back into her pale skin before Andreas arrived later that day. She sighed contentedly to herself. Though Kyra hated being cooped up at the cottage away from the people she loved & civilization, she could relax here. Hopefully she'd get some good paintings done before she went back to Port Charles, Kyra mused. "Kyra!" Athena called from inside. "Can you come here for a minute?" Kyra frowned but nevertheless heaved herself off the lounge to go inside. "What is it, Ath--" Kyra's words died on her lips as she walked into the living room to see Andreas standing beside her twin sister. Kyra had been so deep in thought outside she'd totally missed the car that pulled up out front. Tears slid down Kyra's cheeks as she hurled herself into her husband's arms. Andreas held her tightly & Athena left the room to give them some time alone. "Hey, what are these tears for?" Andreas asked as he tipped Kyra's face up. He tenderly wiped her cheeks and then gave her his handkerchief. "I guess I didn't realize how much I missed you," Kyra said sheepishly as she ran a hand across her eyes. Andreas bent his head gently to kiss her soft lips. "I missed you too," he whispered. Kyra led him outside and sat him on the lounge. Pushing his legs aside, Kyra settled herself on the lounge in front of him. She leaned back against him and Andreas wrapped his arms around her, enjoying the feel of her in his arms. Andreas had missed Kyra more than he'd let on. "How's the baby doing?" Andreas asked curiously after a moment of happy silence. "Fine, but he misses you too," answered Kyra. Andreas raised an eyebrow, "He?" Kyra blushed, "I want to have a boy, Andreas. I want to have your son; he'll be just as handsome as you." Andreas was so honored he was overwhelmed for a minute. Slowly, a grin crossed his face, "But what if I want a daughter, darling? Think of it; a little girl just as beautiful as you." Kyra rolled her eyes. "I'm not beautiful," she said matter-of-factly. "Which is why I want a boy." Andreas laced his fingers through Kyra's, "Kyra, you are very beautiful. Always remember that. Besides," he teased. "I don't marry ugly women." Kyra turned around on the lounge and pretended to smack him. "Really? And who else have you married?" she laughed, her blue eyes full of teasing fire. Andreas placed his hand on either side of her cheeks. "Just one; the most beautiful woman in the entire world," he whispered softly before leaning over to press his lips against hers. When Kyra finally broke the kiss, she was breathless and filled with desire. "You have a lasting effect on me, Mr. Andropulous," she murmured as she rested her head against his chest. Andreas held her tightly with a small smile on his face. "As do you, Mrs. Andropulous," he said.
Jason arrived that night and the next three days were heaven for the two couples. Between walking, fishing and just spending time cuddling, they almost had no time to sleep. On the last night Jason & Athena laid in bed talking late into the night. Both were too sad about Jason & Andreas leaving the next day to sleep. "I'll be back soon, Athena, I promise," Jason said softly as he held her in his arms. "I want you to stay now, Jase," Athena said miserably. Jason ran his fingers through her silky hair, "I know you do, but Andreas & I have to deal with Helena so you & Kyra can come home." Athena frowned, "I worry about you. Helena is dangerous, there's no telling what she'd do to you both if she ever found out that you were on to her." "You know that I will extremely careful. Helena won't found out," Jason promised, trying to reassure Athena. Wordlessly, Athena reached up and drew Jason's face down to meet hers. Their kiss was sweet & reassuring. Athena pressed her body closer to Jason's, deepening the kiss by probing his lips apart with her tongue. Jason's tongue slipped into her mouth and began to prove all the crevices inside it. Athena let out a gentle moan as their passion grew. Every time they made love, Athena always felt like it was their first time. This time was no exception as Jason peeled her nightgown away from her body and shed his boxers almost without moving. Jason slipped on top of Athena, staring down at her creamy skin with total desire. He brought his lips to her skin, kissing every inch of her body before capturing her lips again. Athena was aching for their bodies to join, but ran her hands lightly over Jason's back as they kissed, trying to be patient. Jason moved his lips down her neck and chest to her breasts and Athena gasped out loud from the pleasure. His tongue darted over her nipples, causing them to become hard. Athena arched her back at Jason, bluntly hinting at what she wanted. Jason smiled teasingly for a moment & then entered her. Jason began to move inside of Athena, slowly at first, but then faster. Athena moved her hips against Jason, softly calling his name, urging him on. They moved together, as fast as they could as if they were afraid to stop before they reached their peak. They climaxed moments later, Jason falling back on the bed beside Athena, exhausted but sated. Athena pulled the blankets up over their damp bodies and they fell asleep in each other's arms, bodies still joined.
Lucky stood outside the door at Wyndemere, trying to gather his courage to knock. Lucky was well aware that he was taking his chances of running into Stefan by being there, but he wanted to see his brother and apologize for what he had done so he'd decided to risk it. Sighing, Lucky shrugged and knocked on the front door. It was answered a moment later by Stephanie. "Lucky," she said softly, keeping her face free of expression. "Hello, Steph," Lucky forced a small, polite smile. "Is my brother home?" She nodded and moved aside so Lucky could come in. He did, and Stephanie closed the door. "Follow me," she said and began to waddle down the hall. Stephanie was almost eight months pregnant and couldn't walk as fast with all the extra weight she was carrying. Lucky glanced at her sympathetically, "That must be uncomfortable sometimes." Stephanie glanced back at him briefly. "At times it is. But at other times, it's wonderful," she said stiffly. "But you wouldn't understand the bond between a parent & child, would you, Lucky? Or should I say, between siblings?" Lucky understood immediately that Nikolas had told Stephanie what had happened with Helena. "Good news travels fast, I see," he muttered as they arrived at the doorway to Nikolas's office. Stephanie whirled on him so fast in her pregnant state that Lucky jumped back. "I am so disgusted with you right now, Lucky," she said, her voice shaky. "I don't want to her one negative, insolent comment come out of your mouth anytime soon. In fact, I don't think I even want to see you at all." With that, Stephanie hurried away as fast as she could. Lucky's mouth dropped open but then snapped shut again. He knew he deserved that. Turning, he walked into his brother's office. "Nikolas," he greeted quietly. Nikolas glanced up at Lucky, his eyes growing hard. "You have a lot of nerve showing up here," Nikolas said, his voice full of anger & pain. "Why'd you do it, Lucky? Do you really hate my sister that much that you'd risk her life? And her baby's?" Nikolas threw out before Lucky could open his mouth. Lucky stared into his brother's eyes before sitting down across from him. "There is nothing I can say to make up for what I did, Nik," Lucky began, but Nikolas cut him off. "You're damn right you can't. When did you become such an ass? You hated all three of us when you first found out about us. We understood then because we weren't too fond of you either. But you never gave the twins a chance, Lucky. You gave me a chance and we were close. Why couldn't you give them a chance? Why?" Nikolas slammed his fist on the desk, tears filling his eyes. He loved his brother, but his main concern was for his sisters whom he'd grown up with his whole life. Lucky lowered his eyes shamefully, "I've been selfish and stupid, Nikolas. Right from the beginning Mom has always defended the twins. The more she did it, the more I hated them. Especially Kyra. She has an attitude and she goaded me every time she saw me. Deep down I knew there was no reason for me to like them, Nikolas. But," he trailed off. "You were jealous? My sister is at risk right now because you were jealous?" Nikolas sputtered. Tears began sliding down Lucky's cheeks as he nodded. Nikolas softened, knowing at that moment that Lucky really was sorry. "I know you're sorry now, Lucky. But you never should have gone to Helena. I wouldn't turn my worst enemy over to Helena and I thought you'd know that after she kidnapped you," Nikolas scolded. Wiping his eyes, Lucky looked up. "It was stupid and I wasn't thinking. I guess all I was thinking of was ruining that picture perfect image Kyra tries to project on me. I figured Mom already knew and Helena..... "Helena was the only one who'd give me the stupid reaction I wanted," he finished lamely. "Please don't criticize me anymore. Mom & Dad already have and I've been berating myself ever since Mom told me," Lucky pleaded with Nikolas. "Just tell me what I can do now to help Kyra." Nikolas considered his words in his head. Although he believed Lucky to be sincere with his apology, Nikolas still didn't trust him with the twins' lives or the life of Kyra's baby. "What you can do is go home and wait until you're told that we need you," Nikolas advised Lucky. "And whatever you do, STAY AWAY from Helena." Lucky nodded and rose from his seat. "Thank you for seeing me, Nikolas. I know I don't deserve that from you right now. Please apologize to Steph for me," he said softly. Nikolas nodded and watched his brother leave. Sighing, he turned his attention back to the papers on his desk.
Unbeknownst to Lucky, Stefan wasn't at Wyndemere when he came to see Nikolas. Stefan was walking through the park on his way to see Laura. He arrived on her doorsteps and knocked on the door. "Hello, Laura," he greeted her softly when she opened the door. She looked surprised to see him, "Stefan! Please, come in." Laura stepped away from the door and stepped into the living room. Stefan closed the door and followed her. "Can I get you anything?" she offered hastily. "No, thank you. I just came to see how you were doing," Stefan managed a small smile. Laura momentarily faltered. "As well as can be expected," Laura said. She sat down on the couch & motioned for Stefan to have a seat as well. Stefan sat down a few feet away from her, "Have you talked to the twins yet?" Laura shook her head, "Andreas & Jason went to see them & they've had their cell phones off while the guys are there." Stefan frowned, "Is that why I got the answering machine?" Laura smiled, "You called? Did you leave a message?" "I, ah, yes. Did you?" Stefan blushed as he looked at Laura. "Yes. I asked them to call me as soon as they can so I know they're okay." Stefan nodded, falling silent. Laura noticed the circles under his eyes and leaned over to gently touch his arm. "They're fine, Stefan. Don't worry so much," she said softly. Stefan looked startled, his eyes fixated on her hand. She removed it quickly when she noticed him staring at it. "I'm not worrying too much. Stephanie & I stay awake late a night playing chess. The baby keeps her up and so as not to wake Nikolas she comes downstairs," Stefan explained. "I simply keep her company." Laura grinned, "That's very nice of you. Has she beaten the master of chess yet?" Stefan returned her smile, "Not yet, but she's certainly a good challenger." They both chuckled. Stefan glanced at his watch and then rose, "I really didn't intend on staying long. I just came to see in person how you were doing, Laura. And to tell you if you need anything or if you find out anything to call me." Laura rose and smiled, "I appreciate that, Stefan. Thank you for coming; I'll definitely let you know if I hear anything. Please give my best to Nikolas & Stephanie." Laura walked Stefan to the door. "Good night, Laura," he said as he opened the door and stepped onto the porch. "Good night, Stefan," she said as he began to walk away.
Chapter Nineteen
For the next two weeks Jason & Andreas worked out the kinks of their plan while Alexis, Laura, Stefan & Nikolas had regular phone calls to the twins to see how they were. They were fine but going antsy up at the cottage. At the beginning of the third week of Kyra & Athena's stay at the cottage, Jason & Andreas finally found three people willing to risk killing Helena for a large amount of money. They finalized the rest of the details quickly, setting the plan to be done within the next two days. At the same time, Helena began snooping around Port Charles looking for the twins. Figuring out pretty quickly that they were out of town, Helena headed over to see Nikolas at Wyndemere. Mrs. Landsbury showed her to the living room where Nikolas & Stephanie were sitting with Alexis. "What a lovely family sight," Helena purred as she walked into the room. "Such a shame that I wasn't invited. But where are the twins? Certainly they should be here for a family gathering," Helena said. Nikolas glared at Helena while Alexis smirked. "Why are you here, Helena? Nobody invited you," Nikolas rose to face his grandmother. Helena raised an eyebrow, "How impolite, Nikolas. To think I came to see you, my grandson, and you treat me so rudely? Shame, shame." Helena shook her head. "Where's your little boy-toy, Helena?" Alexis asked mockingly with a wide grin on her face. Helena's gaze settled on her foe, "Ah, *little* Natasha. How ashamed I am to see you here. Not that it's any of your business, but Andreas is waiting outside." Helena's eyes strayed to Stephanie. "How are you, my dear? I assume the baby is due soon; you & Nikolas must be very excited." Stephanie gave Helena a small smile, "We are very excited, Helena, thank you." Helena nodded and returned her gaze to her grandson, "So, Nikolas, where are my granddaughters? I haven't seen them recently and I've missed them." Nikolas rolled his eyes, "I'm sure they don't miss you, but have you tried Athena at the penthouse & Kyra at the cottage?" Helena frowned disapprovingly at Nikolas. "I don't like your tone, Nikolas," she chastised. "Of course I've tried the cottage and penthouse. Jason has advised me that the twins are sick and are quarantined at the penthouse. I'm surprised you didn't know that," Helena informed Nikolas. Shock registered on Nikolas's face, "The twins are sick? Why didn't anyone tell me?" Stephanie reached over and laid a gentle hand on Nikolas's arm. "I'll go call Jason right now and see how they are," she said in her soft voice. Nikolas calmed slightly, "Thanks, hon. I'd really appreciate that." Nikolas helped her up and Stephanie walked out of the room. Helena settled herself down on the chair across from Alexis. "Shame you didn't know, Nikolas, considering you're so close with your sisters," Helena said with hidden sarcasm. Nikolas met her eyes, "We all have our own lives now, Grandmother. It's not like we check in with each other all the time." Helena nodded, "Of course, my darling." Alexis was eyeing Helena silently. Helena looked over at her, "What are going through those wheels of yours, Natasha?" Snapping herself out of her daze, Alexis grabbed a magazine. "Nothing," she muttered. Stumped at what to do next, Nikolas sat down on the couch uncomfortably. "Do you have a nursery ready for the baby, my dear?" Helena inquired of Nikolas. "Athena & Kyra surprised Stephanie with one," Nikolas said absently. "I'm surprised they haven't thrown the shower yet. Weren't they planning one? Stephanie is almost due," Helena added. Nikolas threw a suspicious look at Helena, "How did you know about that?" Helena let out a peal of laughter, "Just because you & Athena seem intent on detesting me doesn't mean Kyra does, Nikolas. Kyra told me about it and assured me an invitation. I haven't received my invitation yet, which seems strange. Isn't Stephanie almost due?" Nikolas averted his eyes momentarily. "She's due in three weeks. I asked Kyra & Athena to wait until after the baby is born because Stephanie hasn't been feeling 100% lately. I thought she'd enjoy it more after the baby's birth," Nikolas explained quietly. Again, Helena raised an eyebrow. "Really? Poor Stephanie," she purred, narrowing her eyes slightly. "I hope it's nothing serious." "Nothing serious at all, Grandmother," Nikolas said with a nervous smile. "Now if you don't mind, I really should go & see what Stephanie has found out about the twins." "Certainly, dear. Natasha & I will wait here," smiled Helena. Alexis took that as her cue and set down the magazine. "No we won't, Helena," Alexis rose from the couch. "I think it's time for both of us to leave the couple alone. Especially if Stephanie's not feeling well, either. You wouldn't want to catch it, Helena. It might give you a few more liver spots than you already have." Helena looked perturbed at her comment while Nikolas hid a smile. Helena rose stiffly, "Perhaps you're right. You'll call me about the twins if you need me, right Nikolas?" Nikolas nodded, "I will, Grandmother." Helena blew Nikolas a kiss and left, Alexis following closely behind her. Nikolas sank down onto the couch with a sigh of relief.
Jason frowned as Stephanie advised him of Helena's visit to Wyndemere. "Just tell her I forgot to call Nikolas, Stefan & Laura, because I've been too busy taking care of the twins," Jason advised Stephanie. "I will, Jason. She's getting curious though, so we've got to be careful," Stephanie warned softly. "Don't worry, Steph. It's almost over, I promise," Jason said grimly. "I trust you. Talk to you later, Jason." "Bye, Steph." Jason hung up and sighed. If Helena was getting curious, they had to move fast. Jason didn't want Helena discovering that the twins were out of town. He picked up the phone and dialed a number, "It's me," Jason said when the phone was answered. "We've got to move fast. Helena is getting suspicious. We'll do this thing tomorrow instead of the day after. Meet me here tomorrow morning, okay?" Jason listened and nodded. "You'd better be. See you then." Jason hung up and dialed a different number. Andreas, who was waiting outside Wyndemere for Helena, was startled to hear his cell phone ring. Glancing around to see if anyone was nearby, he answered the phone. "Andreas," he said. "Andreas, it's Jason. Stephanie just alerted me that Helena's getting suspicious of the twins' sudden disappearance. I'm moving up the plan until tomorrow night. Can you come tonight & then again tomorrow morning?" Andreas hesitated, but knew for Kyra he had to. "I'll be there at eleven tonight I'll stay until tomorrow morning," Andreas replied. "Great. See you at eleven," Jason hung up. Andreas flipped the phone shut and put it back in his pocket. He was about to turn around again when he was grabbed from behind. A hand twisted his arm behind his back painfully. "Ow," Andreas whimpered. "Keep your mouth shut and you won't get hurt," a voice hissed in Andreas's ear. Another hand clamped a cloth with a sweet smelling scent over his mouth. The last thing Andreas saw was Helena's smiling face and then everything went black.
Sometime later, Andreas awoke with his head pounding. He placed a hand on his temple and rubbed gently, wincing from the pain. Gradually, his eyes adjusted to the light and he glanced around him. To the left of him he saw a tiny kitchen with a fridge, stove and sink. There were a few cupboards and a tiny counter. Sitting up in the bed, Andreas noticed what looked like a family room near the front of the room. There was a couch, television with a stand, a bookshelf with books and a chair. Andreas glanced at the night table beside the bed and picked up the clock on it. It was ticking, meaning it worked. There was a chest of drawers at the front of the bed as well. He groaned as he climbed off the bed and headed to investigate the doors he noticed. One of them turned out to be a closet that had clothes hung inside it. The second door revealed a bathroom. Andreas was relieved to see a shower, sink with a vanity and a nice full mirror in there, among other things. He opened the vanity and discovered aspirins and a cup for water. There was also a first aid kit, a razor, shaving cream, deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste. Some towels hung on the towel rack and on the back of the door. In there shower Andreas found some soap and shampoo. Groaning to himself, he realized that whoever had brought him here intended for him to remain there for a while. To confirm his suspicion, Andreas went through everything in the kitchen. He found dishes in the cupboards, food in the fridge & in the cupboards, dish soap, cloths, tea towels, cooking items & more in the rest of the cupboards. Looking around wildly, Andreas noticed a third door he hadn't checked. He rushed over to it and tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge. Andreas sank down on the couch, trying to remember what happened. "I was at Wyndemere," he muttered to himself. "I had just hung up with Jason. We'd agreed to meet tonight. Then someone grabbed me," his mind whirled, "I looked and saw......." Andreas groaned as he remembered the face he'd seen just before he blacked out. "Helena. Helena has kidnapped me." Andreas had stuck his cell phone in his pocket, but when he felt for it, it was gone.
Jason glanced at his watch. Eleven forty three. Andreas was late, which was unusual. Jason had called Andreas' cell phone but had received no answer. "Where is he?" Jason said aloud. "We don't have time for games." Jason had a feeling that something was wrong & that Andreas was not playing any games. Deciding to get some answers, Jason picked up the phone and dialed Alexis' number. Once she answered, he quickly explained his concerns to her. She promised to check into it discreetly and get back to Jason as soon as she could. "Thanks, Alexis," Jason said before hanging up. Jason began to pace nervously. Jason decided to call the twins to see how they were. Not wanting to alert them that something may be wrong, Jason decided to call under the pretense of wanting to tell them something. He picked up the phone and dialed the number of Athena's cell phone. Athena answered a moment later, "Hello?" "Hey good looking, it's me," Jason smiled at the sound of her voice. "Jason!" Athena was delighted to hear from her boyfriend. "I was wondering when you'd call again." Jason glanced at the picture of her on his desk, "I called because I have this gorgeous picture on my desk & I can't take my mind off you." Athena smiled, "I can't take my mind off you either. How're things in Port Charles?" Jason frowned but kept his voice light, "Pretty good, I guess. I talked to Steph today. She & the baby are doing fine. She says the baby is making a mess of her insides with all the kicking it's doing." Athena laughed. "How are Nikolas & Uncle?" she asked. "Very good. They're both a little stressed & they wish you were here. How's Kyra?" "She's doing well. The doctor you sent examined her today and said she's doing well. You should see her, Jase. She's double in size since the last time you were here, but the doctor says that's normal at this stage in her pregnancy," Athena babbled on. Jason chuckled, "I'm glad she's healthy. A doctor will come see Kyra every two weeks until you two are out of there." "That's good to know, Jason," Athena said softly. "But I hope we're out of here soon. I miss you." "I miss you too, Athena," Jason said huskily. "Hey, can I talk to Kyra?" "Sure. I love you, Jason," Athena said softly. "I love you too," answered Jason. Athena set the phone down and went to get Kyra. "Hey Jason," Kyra greeted him a moment later. "What's up?" "I figured since I called to talk to Athena, I'd say hi to you too. But if you don't want to talk to me..." Jason trailed off with a grin. Kyra giggled, "Sorry. It's the company out here, you know? Ooof" "What was that?" Jason asked. "Athena throwing a pillow at me," Kyra answered wryly. Jason laughed, "Silly girls." He sobered up, "I forgot to tell Athena, but I'm sending another bodyguard out there. I'd feel better knowing that one bodyguard was with each of you at all times. His name is Derek & he knows Rick." Kyra heard the tension in Jason's voice and moved out of Athena's earshot. "Why, Jason? What's wrong?" Kyra asked quietly. "Nothing, Kyra," Jason was quick to assure her. "But if Athena & Rick go into town and you don't feel well, Derek can stay with you and you'll both be protected. It just makes more sense to me." Kyra nodded, "Me too, but you sound upset about something. Is everything okay?" "Fine. Except your husband keeping me up at night with all his moaning about missing you," Jason teased. Kyra's eyes lit up, "Really? Is he there?" "Sorry, Ky, but he's not. I'm meeting him later," Jason said, crossing his fingers. "Tell him I love him, okay?" Kyra asked wistfully. Jason smiled gently, "I will. Talk to you later. Take care of Athena for me." "I will. Thanks for calling. Good night, Jason," Kyra said affectionately. They hung up. Jason sat back in his chair, content that the twins were fine. He only hoped that Andreas was fine as well.
After making himself a bite to eat, Andreas settled down on the couch to read one of the books from the shelf. He knew Helena would show up before long, and he wasn't disappointed. Shortly after he began reading, Andreas heard a key in the door and saw the knob turn. Not moving from the couch, Andreas decided to be cool with his captor. Helena entered the room and shut the door behind her. "Good evening, Andreas," she said coolly. "How nice it is to see you." As she walked closer to him, Andreas raised his eyes from his book. "Helena," he nodded at her. Helena was surprised at his calm attitude. "Aren't you going to greet me?" she inquired with an evil smile on her face. "I will treat you as you treat me, Helena. If you want to kidnap me and hold me against my will, then don't expect me to endear you to me," Andreas said with a hint of anger in his voice. Helena sat down in the chair, "My dear, Andreas, you are upset with me? My poor boy. I thought you'd like quality time alone together with me." Determined not to bring his wife into the conversation, Andreas returned to his reading. "You thought wrong," he muttered. Helena narrowed her eyes; she was getting angry now. "I expect you to look at me when I'm talking to you," she hissed. Andreas raised his eyes to meet hers. "You expect me? You have no right to expect anything of me until you let me go and return me to Port Charles," he said venomously. Helena was taken aback at his tone. "I brought you here because you have betrayed me," Helena explained calmly. "I have it in very good authority that your little girlfriend is pregnant with your child." "So?" Andreas challenged, all fear of Helena foolishly leaving his body. "*Your* granddaughter & I are in love. I should think you'd be happy she's giving you a great-grandchild." Helena's glittered with anger, "Under normal circumstances, I would. But you & Kyra betrayed me. You've been dating her for three months now, Andreas. Or so you've told me. But Kyra is now five months pregnant. So if you are indeed the father, you were seeing her behind my back. Which means you lied to & betrayed me, Andreas. You know how I feel about betrayal." Andreas could stand it no longer. He jumped up. "How you feel about betrayal? How about how I feel, not being free to love Kyra unless I have your approval?" Andreas was shouting. "How about how Kyra feels? She opened her heart to you, risking the wrath of Stefan, Laura, Alexis, Nikolas and her own twin sister! And this is how you repay her? By kidnapping her husband and forcing her into hiding?" The words were out before Andreas could take them back. Helena stood with a funny look on her face. "Husband? Hiding?" Andreas held back no more. "Yes, Helena," he said sarcastically. "When I was away visiting my 'sick' aunt, I was really in Las Vegas marrying your granddaughter. We've been married for almost four months now." Furious now, Helena's hand flew out. Andreas caught it and smiled viciously. "Now, now, Helena. Temper, temper. What, you are the only one allowed to do what you want? Sorry old woman, you can't change what is." Helena leaned forward and locked eyes with Andreas, who felt a cold shiver slide down his spine in spite of himself. "Where is Kyra hiding, Andreas? And why?" she purred, her eyes full of venom. Andreas matched her evil smile, "I overheard you planning to teach Kyra a lesson so Jason & I hid the twins. You'll never find them, Helena. I'll die first before I let you harm Kyra or my child." Helena slammed Andreas against the wall, running a long fingernail down his cheek, drawing a small bit of blood by pressing hard enough. Andreas kept his face free of expression even though being slammed against the wall had hurt. Through clenched teeth, Andreas spoke. "Get away from me." Helena smiled maliciously and turned away. "You will tell me where my granddaughter is. Somehow, you'll tell me." She left the room, slamming the door behind her. |
