Hurley, Shaw cast for Halifax movie
Weight of Water to begin shooting Sept. 13
Hollywood's Variety is reporting that Elizabeth Hurley and Vinessa Shaw are joining Sean
Penn and Canadian Sarah Polley in The Weight of Water for director Kathryn Bigelow. Based
on the best-selling novel by Anita Shreve, the $16 million US picture which begins
shooting in Halifax on Sept. 13 tells the story of two couples on a boat trip to a
Scandinavian island. One member of the group is a journalist investigating a murder that
took place a century earlier. This newspaper reported in last Thursday!'s Tattler the news
about Hurley being cast. Shaw starred in Eyes Wide Shut. The film is produced by Alex
Kitman Ho, Sigourn Sighvatsson and Janet Young. Ho picked up an Academy Award for his work
on Wall Street. The film also stars Catherine McCormack and Anders Bertelsen. It's a
co-production between Halifax's IMX Communications and Miracle Pictures of Los Angeles.
Filming locales are expected to include Halifax and West Dover.
