The ABC's of Heat Waves
by Christina

"Aargh." The frustrated sound travelled though the hot bullpen as men and women fanned themselves in the stifling heat.

"Boy, can you believe this?" Blair said to no one in particular.

"Can't believe it. I can't believe that the air conditionor broke. In this heat even!" Henri Bown lamented as he adjusted his collar.

"Damn." commented Joel Taggart as he laid his head on the desk in defeat.

Even the immaculate Rafe had succumbed to the heat; his white shirt was limp and his shirt was untucked.

For one minute, there was silence and then is was broken.

"Guys, I think I have a solution to the heat problem." Blair said with a gleam in his eyes as he looked toward Simon's office.

Hoping to get out of this heat, the men turned to look at Simon's office. The door was closed, holding back the cold air from the rest of the bullpen because Simon had a portable air conditioner.

Inside the office it was cool, a comfortable temperature. Simon leaned back in his chair totally comfortable, unaware of the envious stares being directed his way.

"Just what I need, a cool room! How do we get in there Hairboy? We'll do anything!" whined Brown.

*Knock Knock*

Looking up from his report, Simon watched as Sandburg came into his office with papers in hand. "Hello sir, I wanted to talk to you about . . . wow, it's cool in here."

Macho Men began playing on the radio Simon had set up as Blair sat down and made himself comfortable.

"Now look Sandburg" Simon was interupted as there was another knock on the door.

"Oh, hello sir." Henry Brown came in carrying a magazine. "I wanted to show you something in this magazine."

"Please someone tell me what's going on?" Simon looked at the two men who had started teasing each other.

"Quit it!" Blair exclaimed when Brown grabbed a small growing curl in his hair.

Rafe suddenly walked in carrying 2 cups. "Coffee sir?" he asked with a small smirk on his face.

"Stop right now!" shouted Simon but he was not heard over the squabbling of Brown and Sandburg.

Taggart walked in as well. "Oh Simon I was just dropping in to say hi. Hey, it's nice in here!"

Uncerimoniously the coffee was suddenly dumped over Blair's head. With a yelp he jumped up out of the chair.

"Voni, my old girlfriend used to tell me . . . So Simon, I wanted to talk to you about . . . that was so mean man! Do you know how hard it is to get coffee out . . ." All the voices melted into one and Simon felt like his head would explode."

"WOAH!!" Simon shouted to the out of control group. "QUIET!" There was silence.

"Xavier Hollander once told me . . ." Before Blair could finish his sentence, the 4 men collapsed into giggles.

"Yo guys, what's up?" Jim walked into the office with 4 giggling men and one very angry captain.

" . . . Zero." Jim heard Simon finish counting down in an apparent attempt to calm down. "OUT! OUT!!" Startled by the outburst, the office was vacated before Simon knew it and he leaned back with a sigh of relief. Then he heard a sound that he dreaded: a rattling in his air conditioner. It stopped. "Oh noo-oo." he groaned, dropping his head in defeat.
