A visit to the Porsche Driver's Mecca..... Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen continuned from Page 1, The Musuem |
The Factory Dealership is really a slice of heaven this side of Cloud 9. There are an incredible amount of brand spanking new cars that have just rolled out of the Werks facilities. Also some more museum pieces and Factory certified used cars for sale. I seriously could have shot a roll of film on each car in the showroom (over 30 cars!). Here's a list of the models I saw: Boxster S, Carrera, Carrera Cab, Carrera 4s, Turbo, and the great GT2!!! What a treat - too bad all the doors were locked... Also displays on some of the crazy Tequipment options: Snowboard racks for your Boxster, tire chains for your factory wheels etc.... |
The Factory Dealer |
996 Turbo Cut-away. What is really apparent is how autocratic German engineering actually is - The most beautiful objects are created when form follows function seamlessly. This screams aloud from every angle on this model.... |
This is one of my favorite shots. It shows how functional the integrated side airscoops are on the new 996s. the air travels through the flared fenders directly into the airbox. Not like your Ford Mustangs which have them there as just decoration.... |
GT2!!!! |
This car is pure evil. It looks 100% Bad Ass. It is noticeable longer, wider, and lower than even a Turbo. There was a sign on the dash claiming it had been sold. "Oh what a Lucky Man he was." |
Big Yellows!! These are the famous new PCCBs (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes). The caliper looks bigger than the Big Reds and the ceramic rotor is a dead give away that these are something special... |
Some new 996s and a Boxster across the street at Werk 1. I do not know exactly what the body cladding is for - protection during road testing or from prying eyes??? |
Cut-away Boxster S Q: Now how the heck do you change the plugs and the oil???? A: You pay the dealer to do it! |
Two consecutive years of Le Mans ass-kickin' Factory GT1s. The one on the left is the 1996 GT1 and the one on the right is the 1997 Evo version. There are subtle and not so subtle differences between the two years. Most noticeable are the aerodynamic changes that went into the Evo; the more agressively flared wheel wells, the shallower hood line, and the complete lack of visible structure in the rear. What cracks me up is the use of production tail-lamps that indicate that it was born from a 993 (see the detail shot above). |
The 1974 911 Carerra RSR Turbo/2.1 cranking out 500 horses. This car took second at Le Mans in 1974. Look how small the tires are in the wells.... |
SAVE THE WHALES!!!!! |
This is the 1973 RSR 3.0 This car smoked 'em all at the '73 24 Hours of Daytona and the Targa Florio race. |
