In my mind, I had the horrible thoughts of her
passengers, in a panic, as she slipped in to the icy
waters of the North Atlantic in the early morning
hours of April 15, 1912. Then from somewhere in the
back of my mind. I remembered the story of how the
band was
playing music to calm the passengers. Right up until
she violently began to plunge to the depths
below. The music you
hear is Nearer, my God, to Thee. It is believed to be
the final song played by the band as this great ship
slipped into the ocean. TO THEM AND ALL THE
SOULS
LOST ON THE R.M.S. TITANC,
Though like the wanderer,
There let the way appear,
Then with my waking thoughts
Or if on joyful wing,
Melody by Lowell
Mason - 1859.
Nearer to Thee!
Even though it be a cross
That raiseth me;
Still all my song shall be...
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I'd be...
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!
Steps unto heaven;
All that thou sendest me
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me...
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I'll raise;
So by my woes to be...
Nearer, my God,to thee
Nearer to thee!
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon and stars forgot,
Upward I fly;
Still all my song shall be...
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to Thee.
