Student's Guide to Mathematical Terms


Symmetric Property: Math doesn't like you either.

Transitive Property: If you have two expressions, and can't understand either of them, then the expressions must be equal to each other.

Associative Property: If you can't do math yourself, sit next to someone who can.

Distributive Property: Everyone tends to get the same answers to the homework problems.

Fundamental Theorem of Algebra: y = mx + b.

First Fundamental Theorem of Calculus: Differentiation is hard.

Second Fundamental Theorem of Calculus: Integration is worse.

First Derivative Test: Exam #1 in Calc. I.

Indefinite Integral: one for which the answer is not in the back of the book.

Topologist: person unable to distinguish a donut from a coffee cup.

Probability Density: buying a lottery ticket.
