Vegas is not only the Jewel of the Desert, but quite possibly the cheez capital of the world! Check out these cheezy things to do next time you're there!
Visit the Elvis O' Rama Museum. A can't-miss for Elvis-o-philes, but nothing that will convince non-believers he was truly The King. 3401 Industrial Rd. 702-309-7200. Three million dollars' worth of Elvis memorabilia, a must for the Elvis faithful looking to view holy and cheezy relics. $9.95 for adults.
Visit the Liberace Museum at 1775 E. Tropicana Avenue. For a mere $6.95 you get a whole lotta cheese. The jewels! The furs! For more info, go here |
|
Who is cheesier than Liberace? Why, Siegfried & Roy, of course! See their fabulous hairdos and matching costumes! So cheesy it hurts! Visit their website.
Go in search of Dan Tanna's house where they filmed Vegas! Remember, he lived in that warehouse and he could drive into the front room? It's supposedly near Circus Circus behind a bank. This could take some time to locate, but think of the cheesy photo opportunities!
Visit the Casino Legends Hall of Fame at the Tropicana. 'Nuff said.
See where all the old neon signs go to die... at YESCO (Young Electric Sign Company) 5119 S. Cameron Street, as featured in the movie Mars Attacks! Don't call there and ask about it though, the company seems to deny they have the signs there, even though they are visible from the street. Cheesy!
Really cheesy is the Freemont Street Experience. Billed the largest light show at 90 feet tall, the length of 4 football fields, and constructed of 2 million light bulbs. What's even weirder is you're cruising down the old Freemont Street, but there's a roof! And it flashes! Wooo-wee!
Extremely cheesy shows like "Legends in Concert" at the Imperial Palace are always entertaining in a Vegas cheese way. Hey, if you can't afford the $80+ that the big shows charge, look for the shows that are free with your hotel, you'll be so sauced from the complimentary cocktails that you won't know the difference!
Visit the World of Coca Cola on the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. It's only $5 to see the world's largest coke bottle. They have Coca Cola story telling, coke folk art, and you can taste coke from every country! Friday and Saturday it's open until 1 a.m., so this is a fun thing to do after you are totally busted (and buzzed-up on free cocktails).
Outside of Vegas, plan an excursion to Rachel, Nevada. It's adjacent to Area 51, and it hosts a wonderful trailer-park hotel called "The Little A'le'Inn". You can get a trailer that sleeps 6 or more for cheap. The alien invasions of the world are documented by photographs which decorate your trailer, and the owner / bartender can share UFO stories if you ask him nicely. A cheesy bonus: their evening buffet and the UFO souvenirs for sale in the restaurant.
...and now, I share with you - the scariest place/thing I have ever experienced while in Vegas. You think I'm kidding or exaggerating, with all the polyester, watered down drinks and bad buffets, what on Earth could be the "scariest place" in Vegas? That would be getting imbibed in the bar at the Star Trek Experience... or should it be "experiment". Truly a messed up place to go. Beware of choking on your beverage or making any sudden moves, you will definitely attract the 7 foot tall Star Trek freaks, and they will NOT go away. Trust me. |
