Oprah - A Daytime to Remember

Oprah: Even if you haven't visited Pine Valley or Port Charles since college days, or maybe you still plan your lunch break around Erica Kane. Today's show will be like reuniting with some old friends; old friends who have been through a lot of disasters, that is. Over the next two months ABC is running a special series called a "Daytime to Remember", which replays the all time classic moments from General Hospital, All My Children, and One Life to Live. Today we're showing you some of our classic favorites. Lets start with All My Children. Well, I used to catch All My Children in Baltimore. One scene I remembered most was when Liza Colby confronted Jenny Gardner in the bathroom at the prom. Does anybody else remember that scene? It was one of my all time favorite moments. Liza, you know was out to break up Jenny and Greg, and we know she would stop at absolutely nothing, that hussy.

Scene in Bathroom

Liza: Admit you're a liar

Jenny: Ok, I admit I lied, but I didn't know anything about Mrs. Martin

Liza: And I'm supposed to believe trash like you - your father's a rapist, your brother's a drug addict, and your mother's just a cheap slut.

(Jenny puts her hand up to hit Liza)

Jenny: Why don't you shut up

Liza: Go ahead Jenny. Hit me. That would be typical of somebody from your background, but I just want to let you know that you are not about to use Greg as a meal ticket out of the sewer that you were born in.

Audience: OHH

Oprah: After that, I was practicing in the bathroom, Go ahead Jenny, Hit me. Well I saw that scene and I thought, Whoa that girl can act, Marcy Walker, come on out, go ahead Marcy Walker.

All My Children theme plays, and Marcy Walker comes out, wearing white suit. Hugs Oprah, waves at audience.

Marcy: You're very sweet. You're very sweet. Thank you. Thank you

Oprah: Well, of course over the years you've done a thousand scenes, so I'm sure that doesn't hold the memory for you that it holds for moi. Go ahead Jenny, Hit me.

Marcy laughs.

Marcy: I was standing by your control room, and I started getting nervous the minute I saw the scene, because I remember feeling very nervous when I was doing that, because that was the first time with her that I'd had to show that kind of anger. I mean I was, what 18, 19. I was still really learning about what I was supposed to do. It made me so nervous to yell at her like that. And to do that scene with Kim, I remember that.

Oprah: I was so impressed with it, and that's when I said, that girl can act, my God. I remember the scene when you found out that Tad was sleeping, remember this, Tad was sleeping with, uh

L: My Mother (Marcy gives disapproving look)

O: Yea, you and your mother at the same time. Lets look at that.

Scene

Tad: You care to tell me what's bothering you.

Liza: (very calm) You bet I am.

Tad: I'm waiting.

Liza: You are the most disgusting excuse for a human being. How do you live with yourself?

Tad: Okay Liza, if you're going to start beating on me about that older woman stuff, you can just phone it in.

Liza: No, not an older woman, not any older woman, my mother. ( Tad stands with mouth open) Why don't you go upstairs and get your gold chain. You know the expensive one with the big gold links.

Tad: What has that got to do with anything?

Liza: Because you know where it is? It's in my house, where you left it, after you made love to my mother. (Tad tries to deny it)

Oprah: Who remembers that scene? You remember that scene. Do you remember where you were?

Audience member: Yea I remember that scene. Oh I totally remember. That's Tad the Cad in his true form.

Oprah: Were you in college?

Audience member: Oh, no, I was much younger than that. I started watching AMC when I was in third grade. My mom watched it when she was pregnant with me.

O: So you came out of the womb. Did you like Tad?

Audience member: Oh I loved Tad, I mean I love him now, like his character now, but then I loved him being the no morals type guy he was in high school.

Michael E. Knight comes out, hugs audience member. Audience is screaming. Marcy helps him put on his microphone and they kiss each other on the cheek, she pats him on the back.

MEK : You knocked my mike off (To audience member)

Oprah: You said you loved him now, and you love him then, you were watching him from the womb.

MEK: Since you were three, and I've been there the entire time.

Oprah: You've been there, you've been gone, you've been reincarnated.

MEK: I've done everything, amnesia, twins

Oprah: What's your all time favorite scene. Do you have any?

MEK: I think my favorite story line was the one we just watched was working with Jennifer and Marcy, because it was such a great entrance for a character on the canvas. It was a great big splash for such a new character or me as the character. Actually I'm the third person who's played Tad over the course of the show.

Oprah: But you're the only Tad we love. (MEK Takes Marcy's hand) Tad actually rekindled his romance with Liza, the affair broke up Tad's marriage to Dixie, drove her right out of Pine Valley just gone, gone, gone right out of Pine Valley. Well after Liza Colby confronted Tad about sleeping with her mother Tad headed over to Marian's house to warn her that the cat was out of the bag. Talk about trouble in Pine Valley that day.

Scene:

Marian: I don't know how I got involved in this mess, I mean why couldn't you have been honest with me from the start Tad.

Tad: Wait a minute. You made the first pass at me.

Marian: No, wait a minute you made the first pass at me. I never ever, ever would have gotten involved with you if I'd known that you were involved with my own daughter.

Tad: Is that so? From what I understand you took a few risks before I ever arrived on the scene.

Marian: Well obviously those risks didn't teach me very much did they. Not only have I done this to Larry, but I've managed to hurt my own daughter as well.

Oprah: Liza's mother Marian is here today to make this love triangle reunion complete. Jennifer Bassy come on out. (Marcy and MEK stand up, and they all sit down.) That was extremely emotional but it had to be interesting to play.

Jennifer: What a crowd. Oh well it was an effort cause you know it's so hard to work with such a handsome young man, but it worked out. (laughs)

Marcy: And she promised she'd be good today.

Oprah: Did you like that particular story line?

Jennifer: Well, the man in my life knew Clark Gable very well and he said, you know you have to choreograph your sex scenes, and so Michael and I, I used to say, I'm going to play with your chest hair and I'll put my bag here and I'll crawl over you to get my bag and stay on top of you while I'm there, so we made our scenes, you know we had a wonderful time. (Laughs)

Oprah: Stuff about Tony Bennet - But we can't close the book on all my children without a message from Ms. Erica Kane. And can you believe she's been stirring up trouble for 27 years. Here's the classic and classy Susan Lucci.

Susan: I think the most outlandish thing Erica has done was the time she fought the bear. She was backed up to the edge and it was either jump in the water or have a face off with the bear, and she did have a face off with the bear and won.

Scene:

(Bear chasing Erica, Bear is roaring. Erica looking Ericaish at the bear).

E: I am Erica Kane, and you are a filthy beast. Ahh, (Bear runs away.)

Susan: I mean I thought it was pretty outrageous.

Other segments for other shows. GH and OLTL

Oprah to group: Do you have all of your own clips, do you ever keep your work?

OLTL person: I started on the show in 1978 before we could tape them, so no, I don't have the older stuff

Marcy: Don't you think it's frightening, though. I want to watch, but I'm scared.

Jennifer: You always see what you don't like, and say, oh no, I have to get my neck done, you just can't stand it, I can't stand it.
