Liza Pregnant with Adam's Child?
Tad and Liza are at the Office
Liza: So what do you think?
Tad: You know what I think.
L: Come on. I mean, I know the lighting's not so good.
T: The lighting? You're kidding? What are you, Stephen Spielberg?
L: I'm not going to change the ending. The emotion can't be reproduced.
T: Who cares? That's not going on the air.
L: Who says?
T: Liza come on. Admit it. At least you've got to change the ending.
L: The ending is the piece.
T: You are amazing you know that? You are the only human being in the entire industry that would sensationalize the sensational.
L: It's the only angle of this kind on Erica's arrest. I'm not going to be beaten by the competition.
T: Do you know what's going to happen if you put that on the air?
L: I don't care if I take a little flack.
T: Can you sidestep an avalanche?
L: The piece airs as is.
Adam is out in the hall
Adam: I know the way for heaven's sake
T: better hide the evidence.
A: If you'll excuse us, I'd like to speak to my wife alone.
T: I'll be in edit
L: (To Tad) No no. Don't stop. We're in a meeting.
A: Well, it looks rather informal. Can't it wait?
L: Can you?
A: Uh, we're having dinner shortly. I'd like you to join me.
L: Where?
A: At home.
L: Suddenly it's home. You mean our home?
A: Of course. You're my wife.
L: This is my home Adam.
A: You're exaggerating.
Tad: Actually, she's not. (Walks away to background.)
A: I know it's been a little tense around there with Erica moving in.
L: Erica. Crashing the Chandler estate on her way to her very own jail cell.
A: Well she's my legal responsibility. Can't we just try to make the best of the situation?
L: Oh and dinner's a solution?
A: Well it's a start.
L: I I I You know I have work, this work to do, lots of work things.
A: Can't you pitch in Tad?
T: Absolutely - (Liza glares at Tad.)
A: Besides, how much more can you get done tonight?
L: I'll be home in an hour.
A: Excellent. We'll wait dinner for you.
Adam leaves.
L: I need a fan in here
T: Who are you kidding? The air conditioner's going full blast.
L: So why don't you start pitching in?
T: You know Liza if you're pregnant, maybe you should scale back.
L: What?
T: Are you pregnant? - Liza looks amazed.
L: oh, if I'm pregnant I I am the l1: 00 news
T: It's not so far fetched. You've got all the classic symptoms.
L: What, what a million different things? I thought sensationalizing was my department.
T: I don't want to start sending up flares, but what happens if it's a recurrence of the you know what you got treated for last summer?
L: Abnormal cells. They removed that.
T: Can it come back?
L: Don't do this. Don't make me do this. I eat myself alive like stressing over that thing that was what the size of a sunflower seed? When this is, what I'm going to take a whole day over, maybe over indigestion.
T: Ok. Ok. I'm sorry. It's just that you know, you're one of my best friends.
Liza looks surprised. Tad takes her hand.
T: Don't look at me like I've just clubbed you. We go back a long way. The fact is we've been here before. The same symptoms same fears.
L: You're just trying to make me not think about the Erica thing. This Erica story is not over not by a long shot.
T: You're the person that's changing the subject. I know for a fact that you considered being a mother.
L: Oh please, Liza Colby and Adam Chandler. Pine valley has its first nuclear weapon
T: My point is you shouldn't have to go through this alone.
L: I have a husband. My marriage is a train wreck. Why is this happening?
T: Wait a minute wait. Wait. Wait. Come here. Come here. Just relax. Take a deep breath. I'll tell you what. I'll go with you to the doctors.
L: Tomorrow you know if it's necessary. I probably have the flu.
T: Where do you think you're going.
L: Home. Maybe by the time I get there I can stomach Erica and Adam.
Later at Chandler Estate
Tad comes in the front door.
T: Evening Winifred. Uh is Liza here?
W: I think she's retired for the evening.
T: Sorry I'm going to have to cut her retirement short.
Liza talks to Marian then Marian leaves.
Tad walks in
T: Are you naked?
L: Tad!
T: We've got trouble.
L: What's wrong?
T: You know the baby-snatching piece? The one I warned you about putting on the air. Travis Montgomery wants to sue the station.
L: Legal approved every piece of footage down to the last frame. There's no love lost between Travis and his ex. Tad.
T: Well apparently Travis' lawyer says that we could be held libel for involving Bianca. Did you have her or Travis sign anything like a release?
L: Can't we do this in the morning?
T: What you have more pressing business?
Tad see's the pregnancy test.
L: I have to know. I'm really scared. I mean what if this is true?
Tad hugs Liza.
L: How did I get to this place? Sitting in Adam Chandler's bedroom holding a pregnancy test like it was a time bomb. While my husband and his ex wife are downstairs having a high old time.
T: Liza come on. You don't honestly think Adam's interested in Erica.
L: If there's one thing I've learned its that anything's possible. I wish someone would give me three wishes. They could just take the first two. Just put my life back the way it was.
T: The way it was. Liza Colby all attitude and attaché? My life is my job Liza Colby?
L: At least I was the star of my own life.
T: It gets kind of lonely at the top doesn't it?
L: Lonely's what I do best. This is deja vu all over again isn't it?
T: Yeah I guess it is. You know pal, there is one sure fire way to end all this agony.
L: Tad, I.
T: Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere.
Liza comes out of the bathroom with the test. She's been crying.
L: Well guess what? I'm pregnant.
