Abstract
Since the early
beginnings of Egyptian Cinema in 1928 when
Lamas Brothers made their first film "A Kiss In The Desert" there was
a cultural conflict between the movie makers and the religion
institutes such as AlAzhar Mosque. The
Sheikhs image were -generally- negative and this attitude was
supported by the political forces in 50s and 60s.The results are very
serious as the children grew up watching those Sheikhs in the movies
as comic characters with no respect. They destroyed the guides and
what is left are the uneducated militias leaders who drove the
violence waves everywhere. This page is part of my old unprinted book
"Cultural Penetration in Egyptian Cinema"- 1984.
