Matthew McConaughey is Ed who naively
agrees to have his life become a new 24 hour a
day TV soap opera. The comparisons with a certain
Jim Carrey film are obvious, but this likeable
comedy from Ron Howard seems more light hearted
and less sinister than The Truman Show. It is,
however, still a fairly sharp satire on the
Hollywood fame game (so, in a sense, it is poking
fun at itself). Woody
Harrelson is right on the mark as Ed's self
centred brother, while Ellen Degeneres is
surprisingly effective as the producer of the
EdTV show. In fact, the whole cast works very
well together which makes for an enjoyable film.
Another green tick for Ron Howard.
