Ratcatcher is Lynne Ramsay's debut movie
which focuses on the lives of Glaswegians during
a rubbish collectors strike in 1973. In
particular it is about young James Gillespie who
is haunted by the death of his friend who drowned
in the canal. This is a
well made movie, with some poignant moments, some
funny moments (the mouse and the balloon is
surreal), and features some strong performances
from the cast (especially the kids).
Overall though, the movie would
have rated more highly if I had been more
interested in the subject matter. Also, I was a
bit puzzled by what happened right at the end.
