First Scientology claims 'Battlefield Earth' was the No.3 favorite Sci-Fi book in the U.S., now this 'doorstopper' is even the best Science-Fiction book of the century. This message is nothing else as one the PR-tricks from Scientology to create some positive buzz about this movie. I'm sure we can expect more in the following weeks. One word to 'American Book Readers Association'. We couldn't find any website, phone number or address. The only thing what we know, that this 'Association' is located in Monroe, N. Carolina. Battlefield Earth was voted third and the top ranked science fiction novel in a national Random House Modern Library Reader's Poll of the 100 best English language novels of the 20th century.
The biggest single science fiction novel ever written -- at 428,500 words and over 1,000 pages in length -- Battlefield Earth - A Saga of the Year 3000 was a New York Times bestseller in both hardcover and paperback, riding U.S. bestseller lists for over eight months when originally published. It has subsequently appeared on more than 400 bestseller lists in over 50 countries and remains a perennial #1 international bestseller.
The film version of the novel -- a sweeping tale of a 1,000-year domination of the Earth by giant Psychlo alien invaders and a daring rebellion by a handful of human survivors -- will star John Travolta as the arch space villain Terl, with Barry Pepper (The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan) as the rebel leader, Jonnie Goodboy Tyler, and Forest Whitaker (The Crying Game, Phenomenon) as the alien Ker. Other stars include Kim Coates, Richard Tyson, Sabine Karsenti, Michael McCrae, Michael Byrne, Sean Hewitt, Michael Perron and Shawn Austin-Olsen. The film is directed by Roger Christian from a screenplay by Corey Mandell and produced by Elie Samaha, Jonathan D. Krane and John Travolta. The executive producers are Andrew Stevens, Don Carmody, James Holt and Ashok Amritraj. During L. Ron Hubbard's remarkably prolific and widely influential 56-year writing career, he published over 250 works of fiction in genres ranging broadly from adventure, western and mystery-suspense to science fiction and fantasy, including 18 New York Times bestsellers.
