The Man From Beyond Lobby Card

Posters and Lobby Cards

The cliffhanger title card from The Man From Beyond.

NO, Nita's not on the poster, but it's beyond fabulous and worth featuring in our "Poster of the Month" series. Any memorabilia from Nita's 1922 film, The Man From Beyond, is scarcer than hen's teeth, there being only this poster and one still of Nita and Houdini I know about.

Produced by Houdini Picture Corporation, this film is the Iceman of the Twenties. Harry is, of course, the hero, who comes back to life. He is discovered in the Arctic in a block of ice outside a mysterious ghost ship. Chipped out with a hatchet, he is eventually revived. The rest of the film revolves around his attempt to understand and deal with the changes in a world no longer like the one he left 100 years ago. An interesting plot twist is the reincarnation in the "modern" world of his former sweetheart, Felice, from a century before played by Jane Connelly. Our Nita plays the elegant Marie Le Grand, seductive accomplice of the evil Dr. Trent.

One of the most memorable scenes in the film is the famous Niagara Falls stunt. Felice makes the unwise decision to go canoeing in the Niagara River, becomes entangled in the current, and begins to drift relentlessly toward the Falls. Houdini to the rescue!!! Our hero plunges in, grabs the girl, struggles heroically against the merciless rapids, is swept to the teetering edge of the drop, and cheats death one more time by making it to shore, with his reincarnated Sweetie in toe.

See Nita paired with a legend in The Man From Beyond. This film is available, in a good print, from Videobrary for your viewing pleasure.
