The Maeve and Sinbad Tribute

Is there a such thing as true, undoubtful love? If you've watched "The Adventures of Sinbad a couple of times, the answer is probably quite obvious. Who can question the sparkling magic between the beautiful celtic sorceress and the brave, though kind-hearted captain of "The Nomad"? From the first eye-contact to their first kiss, it's stood clear that they were meant to each other. With two proud spirits, not wanting to get hurt or hurt one another, it took a while before they realized the unavoidable.

Here's some moments when Maeve and Sinbad doesn't quite manage to hide their feelings, which is really nice for us! Now, keep in mind that I've only been able to see three episodes again since the summer of 99, and that that was the time I discovered the series in the first place. This means no guaranties for every detail to be correct. On these sites you'll find episode-galleries who's more at length.

"Return of Sinbad", part 1

"Return of Sinbad", part 2

"The Beast Within"

"Still Life"

The crew comes to an island where they meet a man claiming to be a sculptor. He treats Maeve like a queen, a role she fits into pretty well with her beauty in full bloom. At dinner, when the sorceress arrives to the table all dressed up, Sinbad drops his fork in amazement and admiration. Maeve is flattered by all the attention her new acquaintance is giving her and Sinbad get's worried for several reasons: one; he's got good reasons not to trust Vinchenzo and two; he doesn't like that Maeve spends so much time with him. When he talks to her, she only figures out the second, and ignores his warnings. Vinchenzo turns out to be a skillful alchemist with a special method making him able to turn people into stone by touching them. He is overwhelmed by Maeve's beauty and uses his "speciality" to keep her near him forever. Since birds are also part of his passions in life, Dermott is doomed to meet the same destiny as his sister. In the mean time, Sinbad has found out Vinchenzo's secret and is determined to stop him and rescue Maeve. He makes Vinchenzo turn himself to stone, and all his stone sculptures, including the former king and queen of the island can return back to be living creatures again. Sinbad himself is mostly glad over having Maeve back by his side again.

"The Ronin"

"Little Miss Magic"

Maeve saves Sinbad in the last minute, before he would have been killed by a skeleton and impresses everybody with her fighting-skills.

"King Firouz"

"The Ties That Bind"

Maeve is taken prisoner by norsemen, who's supposed to sacrifice a red-headed woman to a sea-monster in order protect themselves from it. While Sinbad desperately is trying to follow them up, Maeve finds a friend in Eyeolf who explains to her the story behind the kidnapping. After a lot of hardships Sinbad manages to save Maeve in the last minute. Before separating, Maeve gives Eyeolf her celtic necklace and he gives her his helmet, making Sinbad believe that something had been going on between them that he wouldn't like. As he asks her if she and Eyolf became close friends he tries to sound more curious than jealous but doesn't manage very well to Maeve's great delight.

"Double Trouble"

Rumina turns herself into Sinbad, in order to get her hands on an obelisk owned by Sinbad's friend Omar of Basra. She shrinks Sinbad to mouse-size and hides him in a vase. When Maeve enters the room where Sinbad is kept Rumina, (identical to Sinbad) kisses her and she doesn't make any resist at first. After Maeve has finally managed to turn Sinbad back to normal the two of them, without thinking about it unite in a warm hug.

"Conundrum"

"The Prince Who Wasn't"

"The Village Vanishes"

Well, this episode is one with many revelations! To start with the end, this is the episode in which Maeve and Sinbad share their first kiss!

"Masked Marauders"

"The Ghoul's Tale"

"The Rescue"

"The Eye of Kratos"

The crew unites with an old friend of Sinbad and Doubar, the pirate-queen, Talia. She wants Sinbad and her to be more than just friends and he doesn't really know how to handle it. Maeve is obviously jealous as she is not quite sure if Sinbad knows about her feelings for him and she doesn't trust Talia at all. Eventually, Talia faces the fact that the heart of the captain belongs somewhere else than with her, although she still doesn't give up all hope. After the latest happenings Sinbad gets more and more convinced about his love for Maeve, feeling in his heart that he made the right choice when he stayed at the friendship level with Talia.

"The Bully"

In this episode, we get to know a little about Sinbad's past.  When he was just a little kid, his first love Leah got killed when an older boy called Harun-Al-Dizar scared her so bad that she fell of a cliff and drowned. By that time, Sinbad was afraid of the sea since it took his parents away from him in such a cruel way. The fact that he could just stand there and do nothing to save her is still making him feel guilty for her death. After that incident, he swore to himself that he would one day become a captain and learn how to control the mighty sea.

"Monument"

"The Trickser"

"The Siren's Song"

When one of the men puts a knife to Maeve's throat, Sinbad get's despair in his face. He doesn't want to risk her life.

"Isle of Bliss"

When the claimed captain Alanna blows Maeve off the ship with strong magical forces despite Sinbad's tries to help her, he refuses to weigh anchor until she's back onboard. It turns out that Maeve is unharmed, thanks to Firouz's latest invention, a bathtub which appears to do well as a boat too.

"The Vengeance of Rumina"

Yet another great, actionfilled and emotional episode. The Nomad is heading to Rumina's barren island with Sinbad ahead, determined to destroy her once and for all. Maeve gets a bad feeling from the start but does all she can to shake it off. When they arrive at the island, the awakened Turock and his witch for a daughter have teamed up with the lord of darkness, Scratch. Their united powers forces Sinbad and his smaller army to move back and Maeve is of course disappointed over the once again unsuccessful attempt to stop Rumina and rescue her brother and Dim-Dim. Sinbad can see she's sad and comforts her with a friendly hug.

If only Firouz  wouldn't had interrupted we could have got to see more than just hugs in this final episode with Jacqueline Collen in the female leading part, but...he did so that didn't happen.

Think I've missed a couple of season two high-lights? Then tell me! (I will update soon, though.)
