- Buffy Summers, our heroine, the Slayer. Buffy is an only child to a single mother (Joyce Summers). She was popular at her old school, but due to her Slayer activities, she seems to be having trouble in Sunnydale. She was awarded, however, the rank of Class Protector at Prom.
- A 244-year-old vampire and the on-again-off-again boyfriend of Buffy. Though he's a vampire, he's a good one, and has frequently helped Buffy take out other vamps. He's left to make his own show, called Angel.
- Willow Rosenberg, Buffy's best friend and a practicing Wiccan. She's rather timid, but an optimist in general.
- A werewolf and Willow's boyfriend. He's also in a band that plays frequently at school dances and at the Bronze.
- Xander Harris. I don't really know what role Xander has in the group. He's Coredlia's ex-boyfriend. He also had a thing going with Willow at one time.
- Cordelia Chase. She's the "little rich girl" who, though her life has been saved numerous times by Buffy, still looks down on the Slayer. She used to date Xander, but now seems to be interested in Buffy's new Watcher, Westley.
- Rupert Giles is the school librarian and Buffy's former Watcher. He was replaced as Watcher when the council deemed him "too close" to Buffy. He's a kind of father figure to Buffy, and seems to be interested in the Slayer's mother.
