"Last Kiss" by Buffy-X
Oh, where, oh, where
Can my baby be
The Lord took her
Away from me
She's gone to heaven
So I got to be good
So I can see my baby
When I leave this world
"I think it's good you came back, even for a little while," Buffy Summers said.
She glanced over at Angel as he drove. He had a half-smile on his handsome face.
"Things have been pretty dull around here since we took out the Mayor. Kinda like after I dusted the Master," Buffy said. "You're actually the first vamp I've seen in, like, a month."
"L.A.'s full of them," Angel supplied. "I've been patrolling. With Cordelia."
"Oh. With Cordelia." Buffy tried to fight to hurt she knew sounded in her voice.
"I'm not interested in her, Buffy. Remember, noblewomen?" Angel said quietly. "We may not be together, but you're still my girl."
Buffy smiled, a little cheered but still sad. And they could never be together again. There were too many risks.
They turned the corner. Straight ahead, a car was stalled. Angel tried to stop, but he was going to fast. He couldn't swerve into oncoming traffic, so he went right.
Angel hadn't seen the black car parked on that side, too far into the street. Their car slammed into it. The last thing Angel heard before the dark settled was Buffy's scream.
We were out on a date
In my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road
Straight ahead
A car was stalled
The engine was dead
I couldn't stop
So I swerved to the right
I'll never forget
The sound that night
The screaming tires
The bustin' glass
The painful scream
That I heard last
Oh, where, oh, where
Can my baby be
The Lord took her
Away from me
She's gone to heaven
So I got to be good
So I can see my baby
When I leave this world
Angel woke when rain hit him through the broken windshield. There was blood in his eyes, from a cut on his forehead, which was healing rapidly. Painfully, he looked around.
Buffy wasn't in the car. She'd been thrown out, her seatbelt broken. Carefully, Angel climbed out of the car.
There was a crowd gathered. Someone was describing the accident to another, whiel someone else was calling 911.
Angel found Buffy and knelt next to her. "Buffy?"
Slowly, her eyes opened. The light in them was rapidly fading.
"Angel?" she whispered.
He could feel tears running down his cheeks, in addition to the rain. "Yeah. Hold on. An ambulance is coming."
". . . not your fault," Buffy murmured. "'Sokay."
Her breath caught and her eyes closed. Angel started to panic.
"Buffy!" he cried frantically.
Her eyes opened again, less this time. "Hold me, Angel."
Gently, he lifted her broken body into his arms, holding her against him. He kissed her, tenderly.
"I love you," she whispered. Her hand moved to his face, touched his cheek.
"I love you," he whispered back. "Just hold on, Buffy, you're gonna-"
Her hand fell from his face. The light in her eyes went out and they closed.
Angel held her close, crying in earnest. "Buffy . . ."
When I woke up
The rain was pouring down
There were people
Standing all around
Something warm
Flowin' through my eyes
But somehow I found
My baby that night
I lifted her head
She looked at me and said
"Hold me, darlin',
Just a little while."
I held her close
I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love
That I knew I would miss
Well, now she's gone
Even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life
That night
Angel pulled a small claddagh ring out of his pocket, one he'd carried for nearly a year, since his return from Hell. He slipped it on her left ring finger, heart in, and kissed it.
Then he held her close, and sobbed.
Oh, where, oh, where
Can my baby be
The Lord took her
Away from me
She's gone to heaven
So I got to be good
So I can see my baby
When I leave this world
