THE GRAND SCHEME
OF THINGS
By Matt Barnes
XII
Tight energy string* community.
All energy coalesced in a ball
Universe in the state of unity
It used to be vast, now it's so small.

XI
I
Nothing escapes the gravitional pull,
Everything sucked in like a huge black hole,
Which only becomes more powerful
As the universe again becomes whole.
It won't stay together very long.
Soon the ball will explode in the night
With a force immeasurably strong,
Expanding at a rate faster than light^.

X II
Energy strings undergo transformations
To photons, quarks, leptons and baryons,
Different energy configurations.
Some vanish quickly, some last for eons.
Gravitional forces reign supreme.
Attraction between any two objects.
Entropic reversal: new cosmic scheme.
All things in this universe intersect.
IX III
As energies have molded together,
Nuclear fusion formed the elements.
Subatomic particles in a tether,
Bound together like unbreakable cement.
Surviving sentients master physics.
Capable of five dimensional travel**,
The brainchild of relativity tricks
Finding safe havens as space unravels.
IV
VIII
There shall come a time of resolution
When sentient races prosper or fall.
Logic or madness decides the conclusion,
Advanced technology answers that call.
Atoms and molecules now everywhere,
Building blocks for bigger things they are.
They join to form the nebulae out there:
The clouds that churn to form planets and stars.

V
VII
Organic molecules polymerize
Into fiber, DNA, and protein.
Primative lifeforms materialize
From out of the primordial birth scene.
Sentients are shaped by evolution,
The conscious life who can think and reason.
Shaping nature is their attribution,
Growing technology marks their season.
VI
Inside the biological domain,
Random mutations lead to diversity.
Species that live to reproduce remain
While others perish from adversity.
* Energy strings are the indivisible, fundamental units of energy and matter.
^ While the maximum velocity for anything is the speed of light, some things can still happen at a rate faster than light. Say you have two objects traveling at a velocity of 0.7 times the speed of light and they are moving in opposite directions. In this case, the rate of separation between those two objects is 1.4 times the speed of light!
** Five-dimensional travel involves crossing from one universe to another. It is speculated that even in the tiniest areas of space contains its own universe.
