Made by the same people responsible for "The Killer Eye", "Head of the Family" is a shallow horror-comedy which looks something like a porno flick. The numerous sex scenes are not very convincing since the acting is farily bad, and they don't seem to give much of a reason for having it in the first place. It's almost as if the writers are thinking, "You know, we have an actress who used to do pornos, we might as well take advantage of this by throwing in a bunch of sex scenes." And that's what they've done. It's too bad they've forgotten about the horror aspect. "Head of the Family" is neither scary nor gory, and the characters are all crooked to the point where you could care less if anything nasty actually happens to them. When the family of mutants catches the heroine and makes her play Joan of Arc, I can't help but root for the retarded henchmen (yes, there are some guys literally playing retards in this movie) to set her on fire. Although there is a pretty funny scene where the head of the family (literally, a giant head with a tiny body) bounces down a flight of stairs, this direct-to-video does not have much to offer. It takes more than a big head, a big-eyed mutant, and big boobs to make a good movie. The bottom line: You're nowhere ahead watching "Head of the Family." |
