"Night School" is considered to be a slasher movie, though it feels more like a crime thriller than anything else. It starts off with an inventive beheading on a merry-go-round, but the rest is rather formulaic and predictable. After the merry-go-round murder, the slashings are all standardized, and the rule-breaking detective and the weird, wide-eyed stalker are very familiar characters. There is a long shower scene with Rachel Ward and a murder scene with a head inside a toilet, but aside from those and the merry-go-round scene, there is really nothing new here. Just some forbidden affairs which end with decapitations until the intrepid detective finally figures it out. The bottom line: "Night School" is rather ho-hum horror overall, and slasher fans would probably want more slashing and less talking. |
