Another Chopping Mall:
The ten people were Alan, Bob, Claire, Denise, Eric, Fred, George, Harold, Ilene, and Jane. Among the seven who died, one was bludgeoned to death, one was chopped into pieces, one was drowned, one was electrocuted, one was gutted, one was hung, and one more was impaled. Among the three survivors, one was the killer. Times when bodies were found were 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 10:45, 11:00, 11:15, and 11:30.
9:00 victim (earliest) was a man who was not impaled (clue 7), electrocuted (clue 4), drowned (clue 1), hung (clue 2), bludgeoned (clue 3), or gutted (clue 5), so this person was chopped to death. He was not Ilene, Denise, Claire, Jane (women), George (clue 7), Alan (was alive after 10 p.m.), Harold (clue 6), Eric (was alive to find electrocuted victim), Bob (was alive to find gutted victim after 11 p.m.), so could only be Fred.
By clue 4, electrocution victim was found 30 min. after a female victim, so was not found at 9 p.m. (earliest), 9:30 (clue 7, first victim was male), 10:00 (9:30 victim was male, clue 3), 10:45 (no 10:15 victim), or 11:00 (no 10:30 victim) or 11:30 (clue 4). So could only be 11:15 victim. Therefore, the female victim in clue 4 was found at 10:45. The other victim found after 11 p.m. was gutted (clue 5) but wasn't found at 11:15 (electrocuted victim), so he/she must have been found at 11:30. Bob found this seventh victim, so he was one of the survivors.
9:30 male victim was not Ilene, Jane, Claire, Denise (women), Fred (9:00), Eric (found electrocuted victim at 11:15), Alan (found victim after 10 p.m.), Bob (found gutted victim at 11:30), or Harold (murdered after 10:00 p.m.), so he was George.
10:00 victim was not Harold (murdered after 10 p.m.), Fred (9:00), George (9:30), Eric (had to be alive at 11:15 p.m.), Alan (was alive after 10 p.m.), Bob (alive after 11:30), Ilene (survivor), Denise (was alive to find 10 p.m. victim), or Claire (clue 8). So 10:00 victim was Jane.
Drowned woman was not Ilene (survivor), Jane (drowned victim was found after 10 p.m.), or Denise. So she was Claire, and Alan found her dead sometime after 10 p.m.. Therefore, by clue 9, Alan was gutted, and Bob found him at 11:30.
Harold was not found at 9, 9:30, 10 (clue 6), 10:45 (woman), or 11:30 (Alan), so he was found either at 11 or 11:15 p.m.. Harold was not chopped (Fred), bludgeoned (George), hung (clue 6), drowned (Claire), gutted (Alan), so he was either electrocuted or impaled. Hanging victim had to be earlier than 11:15 but wasn't 9:00 (chopped), 9:30 (bludgeoned), 10:00 (impaled victim could not be placed in any time slot if hung victim was found at 10), so was either 10:45 or 11 p.m.. Drowning victim was found after 10 p.m. but not any later than 11 p.m.. So was found at either 10:45 or 11. Harold was neither the one who was drowned or hung, so was not found at 10:45 or 11. He was found at 11:15 p.m., and he was the one who was electrocuted.
Denise was not the one found 30 minutes before the electrocuted victim, so she was not found at 10:45. She could only be Claire, who was drowned in the mall fountain. Bob and Eric were both alive after 11 p.m., so Denise could only be the 11:00 victim, who was hung.
11:00 victim's first name starts with a D, so by clue 10, the killer's name starts with either a C or an E. The killer was not Claire (dead at 10:45, and killer was one of the survivors); thus, Eric was the killer, and Bob and Ilene were the two other survivors!
