If you dream that you are haunted or pursued by a monster of some kind, you should turn and face it. Mystery ceases to be horrifying when its nature is identified. When you look straight at it, your monster will seem les terrible; it may even appear comical. It is also less likely to be entirely recognizable; it may be an animal -- perhaps fierce and threatening, but something that can be dealt with. Once you have recognized your personal monster, persuade it to speak to you: ask it what it wants, and if necessary, make use of the "two chairs" technique. The monster in your nightmare may be trying to bully you into doing a certain task, or pleading with you not to do something.

Two Chairs Technique

Take two chairs, and place them opposite each other. You then sit in one, and imagine that your dream is sitting in the other. Ask the dream why you cannot understand it, then move to the other chair, and as the dream, answer yourself. Move between the chairs as you ask and then answer questions.

The process can go on for some time, but eventually you (as the dream) will deliver a phrase that immediately rings a bell. When that happens, the intent of the dream should be clearly revealed.
