At the age of 8, Maggie moved to Kent, England with her family and grew up there. She even worked as a cashier in a London bookstore.Upon completing her secondary school education, and working a year at London bookshop she returned to Hong Kong at the age of 17. Her first career in Hong Kong was a make-up beautician. When she was 18, she offered a modelling contract and later, her agency put her up for the Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant 1983, and also took part in Miss World in 1983. Then she started her career in movie and TV industry. Her big break movie was opposite Jackie Chan in the 1985 movie Police Story. As Tears Go By enabled Maggie to act in a more dramatic role. Maggie then got the lead role in Actress, a drama about a silent actress. In 1996 Maggie starred in Irma Vep, and this has achieved acclaim and has become a cult movie to many of her fans. Maggie is a super-talented actress with many big hits. She won HK's top actress award in 1990. Her depiction of a 1930s Shanghai movie star Ruan Linyu, won her the best actress award in 1992 Berlin Film Festival. |
