FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Let's dive into the Adriatic

Hrvoje Hribar released his new documentary

09. August 1999 -- Hrvoje Hribar, the president of the Croatian Directors Association, released his new documentary about the Adriatic. Spending a lot of time diving with professional SCUBA divers and fishermen, he made a very touchy and vivid documentary about the people's life on the one of the famous Adriatic islands - Vis.

Full of the extraordinary cinematography, this documentary pictures the beauty of the above- and underwater animal and human life. Cruising through the archipelago of Vis, we can found several weird islands like Jabuka, a rock that stands up from the water like big-foot's head. Or Brusnik, a volcanic island with black rocks inhabited with black lizards and white rabbits, came God knows from where and how. The warm story that Mr. Hribar is telling us is knitted very precise with a lot of humor, coming from the local inhabitants.

The movie was filmed with Super16 camera, and the underwater sequences were filmed with a DVcam. The sound for S16 was recorded with Nagra. After the film editing, material came to the digital editing room, where analog shots were combined with digital. After the editing at the Croatian Television, the film was brought to the Digital Magic studio for the sound post-production. Made with the Soundscape and Sonic audio stations, postproduction was very quick and effective.

The main problem was a very audible noise coming from the DVcam. After the spectral analysis was made, it showed that the "simple" noise was actually made out of the many harmonics that had to be extracted one-by-one. As Sonic has a very complex filtering engine, a complex filter was made. It consisted of 48 notch filters with a bandwidth of 8Hz. After the processing the result was fantastic.

Find out how the DigiMag crew solved the problem in our in-depth analysis.
