(10/8) In The Beginning, by Sheila Harper. What if Clark had come to Metropolis a year later, and only met Lois Lane *after* she became Lois Luthor? A gripping a-plot combines with a heart-wrenching b-plot, with an ending to keep you smiling for days (from the fanzine). Also look for the nfic version, coming soon to Annesplace.
(10/8) Speeding Bullets, by Zoomway. Was it fate that guided Kal-El's spacecraft to land in Gotham City? Was it fate that led young Bruce Wayne to meet a reporter named Lois? An elseworld tale, based on the comics (from the fanzine). Also available in a very cool illustrated version.
(10/8) Ad Astra Per Aspera, by Becky Bain. What if Clark hadn't returned from New Krypton? Lois learns that life goes on, and eventually finds closure... until, one day, the seeming impossible happens. (Fanfic almost never makes me cry, but this one did!)
(10/8) Dawn of Discovery, by C. Leuch. The charming start of a new next-gen series, this story explores Jon Kent's feelings on discovering that Superman is sleeping with his mom ;)
(10/8) When Friends Become Lovers by Kathy Brown & Demi. The events in "That Old Gang of Mine" were very emotionally draining for both Lois and Clark ... but when their barriers are down they'll cross into new territory ... and then have to face each other the next morning. Breathtaking highs, devastating lows, but mostly "together" angst.
(6/3) Connections: An Alternate Story, by Carol Malo. Carol picks up where the show left the alternate universe, not only revealing what happened to that universe's Lois Lane, but also bringing together the most unexpected sets of supporting characters... Great A-plot, great B-plot, great writing ... what's not to love? This reads like an episode (or a multi-episode arc, more likely <g>), only better.
(6/3) Learning Curves, by Chris Carr. Taking off from the first season episode "Strange Visitor," Lois stumbles across some information about Superman that he doesn't even know himself. As they embark on a quest to discover more about Superman's alien origins, Lois and Clark find plenty of other lessons to learn as well. Chris's writing is just beautiful, and this is a great story.
(6/3) Between Floors 7 and 8, by Jessi Mounts. On a lighter note, we have an alternate beginning with Lois, Clark, and a stalled elevator. A fun romp of a might-have-been.
(4/29) The Other Woman, part 1 and part 2, by ML Thompson. If our Lois hadn't been thrust into the alternate universe, Clark would have married Lana. So when Lois finally returns from the Congo, Clark faces the moral dilemma of his life.
(4/29) Aliens and Strangers, by Susan Stone. A story tracking the life of Laney Kent (the only one of the Kent brood lacking in superpowers) from adolescence to maturity, and her friendship with the son of Christian missionaries. Can the Bible be reconciled with aliens from Krypton?
(2/26) Chris Mulder heartily recommends Dances With Wells, by Klair-El. Chris reports (and I agree) that Claire's writing is by turns funny, sweet, lyrical and uniquely descriptive. She has a flair for poetry that we both envy. Part prose, part poem, this story addresses the question of why Lois was so reluctant to fall in love with Clark, despite the fact that they are soul mates. This fanfic will make your heart sing.
(1/27) Disruptions in Time, by ML Thompson. Tempus is striking again, trying to get Lois away from the Planet before she even meets Clark ... but H.G. Wells is on the case, with some help from the Lois who's been happily married to Clark for a year now. Can the Lois of the future convince the Lois of the past? Or will more drastic measures be needed...? A fun story, with an abundance of WAFFs.
(1/27) Big Girls Do, by Klair-El. When your grandfather is Clark Kent, you'd expect to have superpowers, right? How would you be able to handle it, if you didn't?
General Disclaimer: None of us own copyrights to Superman, Clark, Lois, etc, etc; they belong to DC Comics, Warner Bros, and who knows who else. We're just borrowing them to have fun; we're not making any money at this. And the fanfics recommended here represent my taste alone; there are tons of wonderful stories out there, way more than I will ever have time to list here.
