Pam's Picks from 2001

(1/9/02) The Once And Future King, by Shadowfax.  A hilarious retelling of the Arthurian myth with a distinctly 1990s sensibility.  Lois is still Lois, Clark is still Clark, and they *still* know how to get into trouble.  Alternately sweet, dramatic, and side-splittingly funny.

(1/9)  Lonely is the Man, by Jon Wolffe.  Far into the future, Elizabeth Ellington is involved in a car accident while trying to discover the whereabouts of a "secret Superman." After being rescued by a lonely rancher, who's still recovering from the death of his wife years ago, she ends up finding out more than she expected...

(1/9)  All Stirred Up, by Meredith Knight.  In this touching rewrite of All Stirred Up, Lois finds and takes care of an amnesiac Superman.

(1/9) Super Stud, by ML Thompson.  If you haven't read this already, you must be new here <g> because I think I've recommended most of ML's previous stories, but I can't resist this one.  Lex exposes Superman to Miranda's pheremone spray -- but this time, it's laced with Kryptonite.  As Clark romances Lois, Superman's reputation is being expertly smeared, and it'll take both Lois and Clark to clean up this mess -- if they're still speaking to one another once he recovers.

(1/9) Bungee Jumping, by Cindy Leuch.  Clark decides to take Lois flying, but it's really just bungee jumping.  Isn't it?

(11/18)  The Transfer, by Tank Wilson.  Clark receives some bad news about his job -- the Planet wants to send him to the Paris bureau.  But after TOGOM, Lois isn't about to lose him again ... and she'll do anything she has to in order to keep him.

(11/18) Wine, Wine, Wine by Kathy Brown.  After rescuing Clark -- for the second time in a week -- from Kryptonite carrying villains, Lois really needs a drink to unwind. And there's no one that she'd rather drink with than her best friend and partner.  Hilarious and sweet.

(11/18)  The Accidental Husband, by Erin Klingler.  With her wedding to Lex only two weeks away, Lois is shocked to discover that, according to city records, she and Clark are married. But as she struggles to resolve the situation in time, she learns some very startling things about the men in her life.

(11/18)  Lois and the Psychic, by Annie Riley.  Lucy drags Lois to visit Madame Luna, a psychic who gives Lois a reading that Lois (naturally) refuses to believe.  But the words stay with her, and color her reactions as she meets Clark Kent, gets that first interview with Lex, and comes face to face with Superman for the first time... A very clever and fun rewrite of the Pilot, from a new author to watch.

(9/20)   Strangers, by Missy Gallant.  The beginning of a very enjoyable new elseworld series, in which Clark Kent is an established reporter while Lois Lane is merely hoping for a job, there is no Superman (yet), and Lois befriends a mysterious guy with strange powers who calls himself 'Kal'.  There are two sequels already, with more planned.

(9/20)  Fugue and Fusion, by Shayne Terry.  Fugue is a powerful story in which altClark suffers from amnesia, and is drawn to his Lois -- if only he knew why this dark-haired woman calling herself "Jane Alexander" seemed so important to him -- or why powerful forces seem to be after her.  In Fusion, Clark regains some memories -- and loses others.  He'll have to somehow integrate his memories if he hopes to survive, and he has some unexpected allies.

Stories are tagged by upload date (month/year) rather than recommendation date for this batch; it's less embarrassing for me that way. ;-)

(8/01)  Every Little Detail, by Molly.  When the mayor asks Superman to give a detailed reporting of his activities, it soon becomes clear that a day in the life of a superhero is anything but normal.  A very funny vignette.

(8/01) Don't Tug on Superman's Heart, by Adam Labotka.  An insightful, heart-wrenching look at Clark's feelings following Lois's "death" in DTOSC.

(6/01)  Dance With Me, by Tracey.  In this wonderfully WAFFy rewrite, Clark takes Lois home after the ball  in CoM.  They finally get to dance together ... and share a few other moments they've been waiting for.

(6/01)  Only Superman, by Wendy Richards.  What if, in TOGOM, Clark wasn't close enough to protect Lois from getting shot?  In this story he unhesitatingly uses superspeed to whisk her out of harm's way ... but it's not that easy to face the consequences when she decides that there's no Clark after all, only Superman.

(5/01)  Sweet Surrender, by Kaethel.  Being presented with his first Kerth Award made it a magical night for Clark, but little did he know that the evening wasn't over yet, and that a much more exciting prize was awaiting him, on a walk back to Lois' apartment -- a walk that would transform their relationship in more ways than he could ever have dreamt of.

(4/01)  Lois and Clark and the IRS, by Carol Moncado.  A hilarious look at what can happen when L&C innocently break an obscure law -- and have to face the consequences.  A new author to keep an eye on!

(4/01)  The Marriage Pact, by Erin Klingler.  A sweet, funny, steamy vignette, wherein two 'best friends' make a promise.

(3/01)  Trading Places, by Irene Dutch.  A cross-dimensional romp with two Clarks, two Perrys, and one Lois Lane too many ... but with happy endings for all.

(3/01) PML Oh Boy! by Tank Wilson and Wendy Richards.  Two days after they were both sprayed and affected by Miranda's pheremone spray, Lois and Clark wake up.  Together.  In a hotel room.  Good thing Wendy was there to smooth things out for them ;-)

(2/01)  Cause and Effect, by ML Thompson.  Lois and Clark meet briefly in Israel; four years later they meet again at the Daily Planet.  Sparks fly, and not just between them; terrorists threaten their future.  An intricate A-plot that was a delight to read, with a touching relationship plot as well.

(12/00) Hearts and Diamonds, by Shayne Terry.  As the son of Lois and Clark faces a dark future, he struggles to become a new kind of hero. In the meantime, he finds a mysterious woman and discovers they have more in common than he ever could have dreamed.  An exciting science fiction story with painfully real characters.

(12/00) Are You Lonesome Tonight? by Doc Klein's LabRat.  The threat of Nightfall looms over the world in this adaptation of the episode "All Shook Up." As time runs out, two people, alone and afraid, take solace in one another, try to find some shred of meaning in their lives ... and find that hope and love are shining constants in even the seemingly most disasterous of times.  A wonderful story, with gorgeous prose.

General Disclaimer: None of us own copyrights to Superman, Clark, Lois, etc, etc; they belong to DC Comics, Warner Bros, and who knows who else. We're just borrowing them to have fun; we're not making any money at this. And the fanfics recommended here represent my taste alone; there are tons of wonderful stories out there, way more than I will ever have time to list here.
